yes. the sd card is inserted.

Okay, so the SD card might have a different mountpoint.

Could you ask him to send you the output from the following commands please?

cd /
ls
cd /system
ls
Best regards,

BB

Oh well ...

This is not normal I'd say

There should be by far more folders!

Okay, lets try

cd /root
ls
although I'm pretty sure that ROOT is just a symlink to /, meaning that cd /root will just drop you to /, where you already are.

Okay, this is really weird...

One thing that should definitely be there is the proc fs (/proc) as it gets generated by the kernel.

What the heck is going on?

Anybody seen this before?

Best regards,

BB

How about using a free program called TeamViewer to take remote control of the guys PC?

That's a great idea! Would surely save alot of time and avoid any damage a newbie might do!?

Especially using dd aka data destroyer. Every time I use it I get nervous....

I have no idea that you could do that. guess that's why i'm the user, and u guys are the hackers/coder.

to be honest, ive been checking this thread every now and again to see how things go. it's pretty exciting really.

what happened?

doesn't this mean the 'tar' command was not found, not that /sdcard wasn't accessible?

couldn't he just copy the contents of /system to the sd card as opposed to tar'ing it?

after DEV : CAN"T CD TO /DEV

after LS: ROOT DEV

then?

Are you entering the commands in CAP ?

I know it sounds silly, but everything needs to be in lowercase here..

these arent wierd at all 'root' and 'dev' are the last two results produced by the first ls command and 'lost+found' is the last result produced by the second ls command, someone unfamilar with terminal commands wouldn't know to scroll back up to see the full list of files and folders listed.

the tar command not being recognised is what's causing the problem here, no??

If that is the case, don't use the tar command, just dump the folders in the SD card and zip it once you copy it in your PC.
