I stayed with Orange simply for one thing..Magic Numbers which really is a free service to a favourite number.

Sorry, a bit off the OPs original topic but Orange Magic Numbers are only "free" IF YOU TOP UP EVERY MONTH, if you don't top up, you lose your Magic Numbers.

Nothing on Orange is genuinely "free".

On Pay Monthly Plan I have Magic Numbers for free. £10 per month, 300 mins, unlimited text and Magic Numbers. Hence my reluctance to ditch this plan with Orange.

Come on people, this has already been discussed here or in the Maps topic. That a mod does not close the thread but posts false things is not really what people expect, sorry. Not the first time I see that mods actively contribute to the fragmentation of the forum, instead of acting contrary. Google maps downloads your route at the beginning so that if you have no signal the navigation keeps going. It just caches the most driven routes too, no way to download manually to SD. Google Maps just needs mobile data.

Well excuse me for seeking help BUT your explanation is ambiguously unclear.

Perhaps a bit blunt, but you're always band on the money! :(

Anyone know anymore about this?

Offline caching requires android 2.2, it caches the areas you most visit.

I've tried Navit for android, and it's really quite confusing to use, the UI looks a bit rough, but does offline maps and directions/TTS and it's free.

Yes GPS is free and you can even use it without a SIM card in your phone.

I've been using Google Maps navigation on Orange pay as you go - data usage is about 1MB per 10 miles (or 15MB if you turn then satellite layer on :D ) and it's very smooth, maps always up to date etc...

Bought an orange 250MB 1 month internet allowance for £5 which does the job easily for occasional sat-nav use. I only use a couple of pounds of talk and text per month so total monthly spend is around £7.

Giff-gaff looks like it might be a worth a try though .....
