Hello Everyone !!

This is a foolproof method to make your top and bottom bars transparent i.e the Taskbar and the Softkey bar

Making them transparent lets you get the REAL BIG SCREEN desktop experience on your phone !

NOTE:: THE ATTACHED GIF/VIDEO IN THE TUTORIAL MAY SOMETIMES GIVE LOOP ERROR AND REPEAT WITHOUT COMPLETION, SO U CAN DOWNLOAD THE GIF/VIDEO TO UR PC FROM THE GIVEN LINKS AND WATCH IT ON UR PC AFTER DOWNLOADING FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING

IMPORTANT: EVEN IF I SAY ITS VERY SIMPLE, ITS LENGTHY, REQUIRES PATIENCE:: YOU NEED TO CAREFULLY DO EACH AND EVERY STEP AS SAID OTHERWISE U MIGHT END UP SCREWING YOUR DEVICE ( extreme less chances if you follow the steps .. its really easy !! )

THIS METHOD REQUIRES FLASHING - BACK UP ALL YOUR IMPORTANT DATA

THE FLASHING INVOLVES ONLY PDA PART i.e only NB0 part so that you dont lose your WARRANTY in any case

Even if you make any blunder in the procedure, u always have a chance of recovering and reflashing

1) First, you require a ROM dump of your present rom.

For this, there is a wonderful app by SORG - DskDump

Get it from his thread::

Insert your separate SD Memory Card (My Storage doesnt help) and then run the "dskdump.exe" on ur phone.

Wait around 1-2 minutes and it will notify you by message box at the end of process. Dump of ROM will be saved to file "rom_dump.bin" on SD card.

2) Copy this "rom_dump.bin" file to your PC

a) Download this ROM Tool by wes58 from here:: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach...st&id=63672

Run "romTool.exe" and Do as shown in figure::

This will give u a new flashable .nbo file which you need to flash using Octans mini posted by tacchan23

Download OCTANS_Mini.v2.11.exe ::: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach...st&id=63673

:lol: FLASHING STEPS: by sorg and tacchan23

0) Make sure to install the Samsung_CDMA_modem_4_1_.34.zip driver ::: Samsung_CDMA_modem_4_1_.34.zip

1) Make sure your phone is not connected to your PC; if it is, disconnect it.

2) Make sure to Turn off your phone.

3) Start OCTANS mini.... Select the .nb0 button and open the new .nb0 file you got from Finished ROM folder

4) Press "Detect" button.

5) Connect Phone to computer (make sure phone was turned off before connecting)

IMPORTANT: Use your USB cable only, dont use other extension wires or other adapters

6) As OCTANS detect phone, press the "Start" button.

7) Wait till whole operation end; the phone will restart itself once or twice to update everything then its ready to set up again.

4) EXTRACTING shell32.exe and aygshell.dll

Use any third party file explorer (resco/ total commander /etc.. ) and copy these two files from the "Windows" directory in your phone to "My Storage"

1) shell32.exe

2) aygshell.dll (this is a hidden file, enable "show hidden files" in your file explorer application)

Transfer these 2 files to ur PC

5) DECOMPILING THESE 2 FILES

For this you require 2 apps:

1) reversmode.exe

2) RecMod.exe

DOWNLOAD THESE FROM HERE

NOW , place 4 files in a new folder : 1) reversmode.exe 2) RecMod.exe 3) shell32.exe 4) aygshell.dll

Follow this gif/video carefully:

Drag the shell32.exe over reversmode.exe . . . this will turn shell32 into a folder

Then Drag the aygshell.dll over reversmode.exe . . . this will turn aygshell.dll into a folder

5) MODIFYING THE FILES::

Download and Install this HxD (Hex editor) ON YOUR PC from here :: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach...st&id=63676

Follow the steps shown in the gif/video carefully

This is for taskbar transparency.

Run HxD

Open S001 (in shell32.exe folder)

Search for same hex code::

FF 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF

Edit the first FF and write as 00 ( i.e zero zero : for maximum transparency)

Save the file

Delete the S001.bak file that is formed

This is for softkeys transparency.

Similarly for aygshell.dll

Run HxD

Open S001 (in aygshell.dll folder)

Search for same hex code::

FF 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF

Edit the first FF and write as 00 ( i.e zero zero : for maximum transparency)

Save the file

Delete the S001.bak file that is formed

6) REMAKE THE ORIGINAL FILES

Follow carefully as shown in video

Drag the shell32.exe folder over RecMod.exe . . . this will turn shell32 into a file

Then drag the aygshell.dll folder over RecMod.exe . . . this will turn aygshell into a file

The new files will be inside their respective folders

7) Transfer these 2 new files to your phone and copy them to ur phone memory's "Windows" folder

Say yes to any overwrite prompts

8) Restart your phone

That's it... long but easy and fruitful procedure !!

Why don't just go to the windows folder directly with total commander or Resco Explorer, copy those files to any temporary folder, get and edit them and them put them back? (leaving them behind would mean backup already!)

Just a thought though... Didn't try it that way... but it could make your tutorial much more simple B)

Wish it was that easy!!!!!!

The MAIN PURPOSE of dumping and reflashing is to patch your rom dump to remove the security check & signing

If the rom is not patched to remove the security check, u are bound to get the splash screen error... i.e ur phone will hang at the windows splash screen and u'll have to hard reset

IN A SIMPLE WAY, if u dont remove security check :

1) you cant copy the shell and aygshell from windows folder,, it'll give an error

2) once u try to replace the modified shell and aygshell back into windows folder, the security check will identify it as a bad file and u'll again end up with splash screen hang

A small request for you shadow.. U r among the best persons to try it out for me and tell me if the tutorial is foolproof...PLEASE !! .. if u face any prob i'll recheck ..

Hmmm.. thats the MOST COMMON error to get when playing with the shell and aygshell

TROUBLE SHOOT:

1) Are you sure u checked the "patch security check/signing" when you were converting your "rom_dump.bin" to a nb0 file in the ROM tool ??

2) How did u extract the shell and aygshell files? Whats the size of the 2 files? . . they should be above 300 kb EACH . . if they r smaller, tell me, i'll tell u wat to do

3) Did you delete the .bak files from the folders after modification and before rebuilding ??

Gotcha on the security signing. I used romextractor to remove the files. The security check is what would have caused my issue. There's no reason the described method shouldn't work. I just tried to shortcut it.

Ur said method might work out well too,,

BUT

as I said, mine is a foolproof, one-time solution

YOUR said method needs u to get on ur pc everytime u wanna change ur wallpaper, cut it into 3 pieces, play with registry.. and finally, many complain that the 3 pieces dont align properly!

no offence.. but ..

the end result with MY tutorial will be that u can change to watever wallpaper u want, wenever, any number of times, without editing/playing with registry..

Recmodding and reversemodding could damage your files (I experienced that before)

The steps I followed are the same to the steps mentioned in the first post till the reversing/recmodding step

Shell32 and aygshell files are already in module form. Skip reversing/recmodding step then make the changes

Rebuild rom, then flash it

I'm using speedfrog's lite rom JH1 6.5 English ROM 01.09 which is supposed to have patch for Disable File Signing/Certificate checking. I tried with romdump+patch to disable file signing and with speedfrogs rom without changes (with resco) and no success. How can I check I patch for Disable File Signing/Certificate checking is really applied?

Please help!!

Hmmm..

Try to PM speedfrog .. ask him why u r not able to patch his ROM..

OR

You can still do whole thing urself WITHOUT PATCHING ROM if u know how to extract the ROM and rebuild it..

If u know how to use ROM Tools, extract the ROM, then in SYS folder modify the S001 in shell and aygshell files as shown

and then rebuild the ROM after deleting the formed .bak files

then flash the modified rom

You are not able to patch a cooked rom because the "all packages to one" protects roms from extraction

If you're using a cooked rom, you'll have to wait your cooker to update his rom.

Thanks for sharing. I would like to report my test. I can follow your method without any problem. But I did not get the same result in JH2 rom.

Have you tested in WM6.5.X? I have try in JH2 rom. The task bar became transparent but it move a bit. I mean I does not conect with the body picture. The softkey bar has no change.

All my attempts to make bars transparent on JG5 was failed. No transparensy at all, errors after booting and one time simple dead after boot logo. Please recheck procedure for WM 6.5

I cannot copy the two files (shell32.exe and aygshell.dll) from my device. I have used resco and total commander, but I always get access denied.
