Guest Alaike Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Hi, i bought this phone on ebay, its also a zte blade orange san fransisco, witch looked like it was working properly. But after a day it was badly responding to my touches. Bij Twisting the phone i could get it going again but this also stoped after one day. I emaild the purchaser of the phone and he said i could not return it. He told me to push on the sanfransisco logo that is on the front of the phone. I tried and was surpriced that the phone was working again.......but only for a few hours so i pushed it again but after a few more try`s this also didnt do the trick anymore...so i deceided to open the phone tho see wat could be the problem. I looked at he flatkabel with the digitizer on it, and pushed the digitizer with a little push between mij fingers( the front end the back of the digitizer)........and then i discoverd it worked again.....so there was something not connected properly to the flatcabel. So i took my soldering station/device and made the smallest end on it i could make and touched every connection of the digitizer and also the other parts that are connected on the flatcabel........and as a result it WORKT..yahoo yahoo!!....and i am now 6 days furter and stil had no singels freeze and even no wierd touchscreen experience. i even jused a touchscreen tester!!! I made some pictures of what and were to do it!! Sorry for my bad englisch, but i hope averyone understand what i am saying. I Think its a bit of a breaktrue and helpd a lot af people on this supurb forum!!expecially for those who havent got any garanty!!!!! Edited February 6, 2011 by Alaike

Many thanks for this, your description and pictures are very helpful. I've a tft model on it's way back to me and I suspect this could be the problem - sloppy soldering during manufacture by the look of things.

I think a lot of problems are caused by the digitizer, and i would like to read if people have also tried it with succes. Its really a precision work but its possible!! But watch out for soldering 2 connections together, otherwise you wil have 2 touchscreen zones put together, you can check this by using a touchscreen tester.
Guest tttonyyy Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 That is fantastic! Mine was the same, squeezing the top helped it work, until it stopped completely... though mine is under guarantee and back for repair at the moment - presumable someone with a soldering iron that will do just what you've done. Thanks for the info :P
Guest kaska_pt Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 will give it a go! tks 4 sharing
Guest Ralph Martin Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Did anyone else try this and manage to fix their phone?
Guest kaska_pt Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 mine still doesn't work ... I just hope that spares become available
Guest ukjeff27 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 mine still doesn't work ... :) I just hope that spares become available System reset in clockwork fixed it for me!!!!!!!!!!
Guest kaska_pt Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 in mine worked also until one day it stopped for good... lol
Guest ukjeff27 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 If system reset works then surely its a software problem and all this soldering malarkey is a waste of time?
Guest Ralph Martin Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) If system reset works then surely its a software problem and all this soldering malarkey is a waste of time? IF system reset fixed it, you'ld be right. Unfortunately, for me, it persists even across installing a completely different ROM using TPT. I'm 100% sure it's a hardware issue on my phone. Of course, similar sounding faults may be something else on other people's phones. Edited February 23, 2011 by Ralph Martin
Guest wbaw Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) I had the same fault, my touch screen stopped working totally after a week after behaving weird for a day. Swapped it for a new phone & that one has been perfect for 2 months so far. So, if you get this fault & you can take it back to the shop to replace it, do so. I think the problem is fixed in newer models. Ralph, can you take the back off your phone & tell me what colour the power button is. I'm just curious. [Edit] forget that, I can see from those photos that one has a white power button, like my new one, my old broken one had a black power button. so, maybe zte haven't fully fixed the bad soldering, maybe it was just 2nd time lucky for me. Guest Ralph Martin Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Ralph, can you take the back off your phone & tell me what colour the power button is. I'm just curious. My duff phone has a black power button. (The one in the photo is not in my posting...)
Guest wbaw Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 My duff phone has a black power button. (The one in the photo is not in my posting...) My duff one had a black power button too, my good one has a white power button, maybe you got old stock, or they changed the power button back again for a new batch. However, the one in the photos above clearly has a white power button, which blows my whole theory out of the water.
Guest Last_one Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) My touch stops working completly. The removing battery does not help now. I see one strange think on my phone: also removing battery from phone I still see two blue diodes light on the up-front of the phone. Can someone check if it is normal in your phone with battery removed? Edited March 9, 2011 by Last_one
Guest caldera Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Looks like my Blade is FOA (Faulty On Arrival). The touchscreen goes crazy after few minutes of use. Sliding a picture or map makes it zoom in or out. While typing letters I get extra letter from the opposite side of the keyboard. This effect is clearly visible with swype. I can see blue swipe lines even if I'm not touching the screen. Icons and images may vibrate on the screen after I move them. Looks like the same problem as others on this thread. This phone is quite useless so I'll return it for repair/replacement tomorrow. The model is Saunalahti TFT. I have near the same problem (only it works few days), after than touch screen is totaly irresponsable. Phone was bought at Orange, but I couldn't get repair center adress for it. Can anybody help me get repair center adress for Orange San Francisco, bought in Suisse.
Guest chrmtc Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) I've had mine since December 2010, and in the last few days it's started doing this. I've just downloaded the multitouch test app, but from what people are saying, I may have to get it replaced :/ Hopefully I can get it back to stock so they'll accept it lol EDIT: After analysis it seems that after a certain trigger (perhaps the screen being pressed too hard), one of the inputs will remain fixed on the x-axis (when portrait) so as to lock x0 = 405. This means that even when using one finger on the screen, the phone reads as if a second finger is keeping itself pressed to the screen along one solid line on the x-axis, sliding only up and down along that line. This is what's screwing up my typing, zooming, and selecting of apps. Pretty weird though. Edited June 9, 2011 by chrmtc
