unlocking while outside the UK

Hi all,

I've been following this forum with great interest and am hoping to buy a San Francisco when I'm over in the UK in about 2 weeks time.

Obviously i'll want to unlock it for use over here in Ireland so my main question is that if i buy it in the UK then bring it back home and get an unlock code, will I be able to unlock it or will I need to have it unlocked while in the UK.

Is the unlock code dependant on the country / available networks or should the unlock work no matter where i choose to do it.

I've had an unlocked UK phone before but it was bought unlocked so never had to unlock a UK phone for use in Ireland, only ever unlocked Irish phones for use on other Irish carriers.

should be able to unlock anywhere, in fact unlocking depends on you putting a sim that doesn't currently work in
