Guest piercy Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Weird after updating with the new rom, I find the the home screen more laggy! However apps menu is smoother! ive been benching my phone with Neocore. After the update its a few fps less than what it was before hand. However, if this is helping the menus scroll around i can settle for a little bit of 3d power lost.
Guest tombii Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 I checked my Acer Liquid (leaked 2.2) and it has the following in the build.prop: # Uncomment below to enable using MDP for composition #debug.sf.hw=0
Guest Simon O Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 I checked my Acer Liquid (leaked 2.2) and it has the following in the build.prop: # Uncomment below to enable using MDP for composition #debug.sf.hw=0[/code] debug.sf.hw=0 uses the CPU to render the UI debug.sf.hw=1 uses the GPU to render the UI I'm not sure why manufacturers are disabling this on some devices. Higher battery usage? Instability? I know when it was enabled on the Blade it caused artifacts but Paul has fixed this.
Guest the flook Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Weird after updating with the new rom, I find the the home screen more laggy! However apps menu is smoother! I can confirm that with hardware acceleration enabled the home screen is a little laggy but Launcher Pro is smoother then a baby's bottom!
Guest oscheng Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Launcher Pro was really smooth for me, most of the time. However every couple of hours I would come across a multi-minute lag. Tonight I have disabled the hardware acceleration on mine to test if that fixes it.
Guest Jeza Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 I find i'm getting lower fps in Neocore with hardware acceleration on: debug.sf.hw=0 = 41.6 fps debug.sf.hw=1 = 36.6 fps I've tried this a few times (using Sebs404 r4 rom) and get much the same results each time. Is this expected? I guess it would be if the GPU is being used for both Neocore and rendering the UI?
Guest Afrodude Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Has anyone else done any tests aswell? For me i find the phone much more responsive when this setting is disabled. Is there any documentation on this setting elsewhere?
Guest idroid84 Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Since alot of phones has it set to 0, I have put mine from 1 to 0 on little SanFran until someone can confirm it's reason for been set like that. I know in these SF Roms the setting is set to 1. I would rather it be smoother than faster any day.
Guest xzyk Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 I guess it all depends on how much the CPU is doing at any one time. If the CPU usage is low then rendering the UI will not be overly taxing, but if you have a lot of background apps, or one that does a lot of CPU work, then the extra CPU UI rendering will affect the smoothness. I played around in mine and can honestly say I did not notice much difference either way, however, since having hardware acceleration set to 'on' does not have an adverse affect on mine, it made sense to leave it on and hope the GPU, rather than the CPU, does its thing.
Guest kallt_kaffe Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) What did you do to fix the artifacts when enabling hardware acceleration? Bump! This is a valid question that I'd like the answer to. EDIT: Nevermind, copied the gralloc.msm7k lib from pauls ROM and it fixed the problem. Edited November 11, 2010 by kallt_kaffe

EDIT: Nevermind, copied the gralloc.msm7k lib from pauls ROM and it fixed the problem. Can you tell me where to copy this lib to? I'm quite content with the Stock rom after cleaning up the orange junk and dont want to flash a new rom [not until 2.2 anyway  ] Cheers, ray
Guest tom619 Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Bump! This is a valid question that I'd like the answer to. EDIT: Nevermind, copied the gralloc.msm7k lib from pauls ROM and it fixed the problem. Yeah what is this file and why should we copy it just out of interest? I have hw=1 and vm=32m on my r4 rom and things are fine but if i can enhance doing whatever you did then wahey!
Guest oh!dougal Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Well isn't msm7k our chipset?
Guest rayraven Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Yeah, but i already have a file called gralloc.msm7k.so in the system/lib/hw folder.
Guest oh!dougal Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Yeah, but i already have a file called gralloc.msm7k.so in the system/lib/hw folder. I think its safe to say that it would be the file's content that matters.
Guest flopyro Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 (edited) Bump! This is a valid question that I'd like the answer to. EDIT: Nevermind, copied the gralloc.msm7k lib from pauls ROM and it fixed the problem. didn't worked for me.... (stock rom) i have activated HW acceleration...and i saw the artifacts, when i copyed the "gralloc.msm7k " file to system\lib\hw the phone became almoust unusable, it was so sluggish and i don't want to flash it.... i will have to use it widouth HW acceleration i tryed to put HW acceleration to "0" and now i can;t see anything on the device, i even did a factory reset and still nothing.. but i can see the lockscreen, i dont understand this phone !!!!
