which is the best phone for an android newby?

I was sent the G/Apollo as a replacement. If i remember correctly it has a (neglibly) slightly faster processor 628mghz The S/F is clocked at 600mghz. However i sent the apollo back after testing it out for a day. It does zip along fine but For Me the S/F beats it hands down in every respect.

The biggi for me was the screen resolution which was not great on the apollo 420x220 i think and text/images on websites was pretty much badly pixelated.

The S/F has a beautifull amoled screen with 420x800 res (on a par with any high end device out ATM) and the quality is clearly evident.

Also the screen size is a factor...While the S/F at 3.5" is large in comparrison to the apollo at 3.2", the S/F still looks like it has smaller screen than my iphone which is also 3.5"

but this may be due to the iphone being slightly wider/bulkier. All said the S/f has a more than adequate form.

Again the apollo screen' for me' felt and looked Tiny (again very slim as oposed to wide) and felt the need to have the phone all up in my grill wayyy to much for my liking ;)

Both run the same android platform. Though if memory serves the apollo comes with samsungs standard Touchwizz interface pre installed (No biggie IMO)

They are similar in many respects (as many android devices are) But the major upgrade of spec you get with the S/F makes it a 'No Brainer' :)

The screen looks rather small. I can't tell if the 512mb they quote is RAM or internal storage.

I don't like Touchwiz.

Maybe the build quality is better in the Samsung, but the build quality of the San Francisco feels good enough for a £99 handset.

The Samsung only has a 400x240 screen. Also looking at the community even in here, the SF looks like it will be much better supported. Samsung are terrible at supporting users once they've bought their handsets (in terms of android updates, etc)

Price + Resolution + RAM + Cheap to Unlock + FM Radio were my reasons for SF PLUS active users modifying it.
