Wow, I will be donating to the cause, thanks for the help from other members on getting the Koush's recovery 2.0.5.1 repack for 2.1 devices. Once I got that installed I was able to get 2.2 going from the zip on my sd card. It is crazy fast!

I have seen spread throughout the several pages about adding a build.prop and other little tweaks, someone that has got theirs going 100% like to share the list in one spot here of what other steps they had to take after getting the base 2.2 going?

Only thing I noticed is my camera does not work. It also looks like I am on the European market again, need to remember what to edit to get back on the us android market.

Thanks!!!

The build.prop on this thread will fix that :)

edited to add - the biggest problem Im having is AppBrain. It wont sync properly and fast web installer wont work

There both the same person mate lol

But yeah a new thread starting from scratch with no " how do i" questions, just info for going from 1.6 - 2.1 and 2.1 - 2.2 for noobs. Something tidy.

I think Steve has enough on his plate. I think it would be fairer if those of us who have had the benefit of his work put a little bit of work in to help the others, that's why I'm hanging round here trying to answer questions when I can.

The trouble is that its actually a long process - 2.1 to 2.2 means getting the pc to talk to the phone and sorting out the windows drivers, then doing the clockwork install which seems to fail a lot then moving the update to the sd card (including mounting and unmounting the card), then the flashing, then rooting (at least twice) then copying the build.txt and renaming then installing root explorer and mounting things r/w copying and pasting and rebooting etc..

Each of those steps is comprised of at least 5 steps and then there's the troubleshooting....

If I get some free time tomorrow I will start cutting and pasting together a document to start a thread, if everyone else chips in with corrections/extra bits/ suggestions as comments, I will keep editing the original message till its as close to perfect as we can get.

If someone who hasn't got a wife trying to get them to spend their sunday mowing lawns/hedge cutting etc wants to take it on and start it then I won't be hurt :-)

The information is all there on the board, but it is a bit tricky to group it together when you try to do the upgrade.

Looks like things are moving along well, the build is nearly at beta stage. I'm gonna wait for a more stable build though before update.

Actually 90% of what is needed is in

this file

just needs to be in a different order. It covers most of the stuff that people need. If the owner of the pdf file doesn't mind I could use that as a starting point.

I am using the new build.prop and I still can't see Google Voice, the Google Maps update and shootme, but I did get the new Gmail update.

Can anyone see Google Voice?

Can't run Quandrant without it crashing, it never runs the CPU tests... Can't use GPS, data works great and so does wifi, but can't use them together= no hotspot or barnacle which I use all the time.... Blutooth tethering also fails... I did the baseband flash method. Camera works just fine of course. may go back to 2.1 custom until the wifi/data/gps issues getsorted out.

This is a post for people to look over and check for accuracy etc.

Its at very first draft stage but it should give a step by step guide to

upgrading to froyo on the streak and hopefully mean that more people can do it without getting stuck

and confused and trawling thru 18 pages to find the links.

PLEASE CHECK THE FIRST MESSAGE IN THE THREAD BEFORE PROCEEDING IN CASE THERE IS A NEW BUILD AVAILABLE

Shamelessly copied from all over modaco and this thread. This seems to be the easiest way I have found to do the upgrade.

Disclaimers etc:

YOU MUST BE ON A 2.1 Build These instructions may not be correct for USA versions:

They probably aren't 100% yet for UK ones either! so proceed at your own risk!

1. Windows Users: Install the dell suite and get the computer to talk to the phone.

See parts 1 to 1.14 step 11 from Link:http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=64083 for a good explanation

This is worth doing and checking as you cant install the clockwork recovery without the windows drivers being correct

2. download the new update zip from either of these sources

Link: http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/b.../update-new.zip

Mirror: http://build.streakdroid.com/update-new.zip

Also download build.txt from Link: http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=64090

3. move the update-new.zip and the build.txt onto your sd card

connect streak to computer - from the notification bar choose the option to 'select to copy files to/from your computer

you should now have an extra drive on your pc which represents your sd card- copy the update-new.zip to the root of the new drive and rename it as update.zip

Also copy the built.txt to the root of the drive and rename it build.prop

4. Download Recovery image

Koush's recovery 2.0.5.1 repack for 2.1 devices - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid Load Balancing) - MD5: 948e19055762737366dd0347c0e1b734

Link: http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.p...ywfaoj2aiywe1ah

How to install

Download the recovery image zip file above and extract to a directory - for instance c:\recovery

Put your device in bootloader mode - Unplug the device from your PC, remove the device battery, then replace it and turn device on with the camera button pressed. Select the 'fastboot' text on the top right, wait around 10 seconds then plug the device into your PC. The screen display should change to 'FASTBOOT MODE'. If it doesn't, repeat and retry (it's a bit temperamental!)

WINDOWS - double click 'install-recovery-windows.bat' in the c:\recovery folder or wherever you put the files.

MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-mac.sh' followed by './install-recovery-mac.sh'

LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-linux.sh' followed by './install-recovery-linux.sh'

That's it, you're done!

5. boot streak into recovery by shutting down and holding vol up and down as you press power

6. select 'update from .pkg' option and wait for Clockwork to load -

(this gives you a black screen and may take a minute to show the clokwork recovery screen

if you don't get the recovery screen then

a) The drivers mentioned in part 1 are not correct - go back and check them again

:) if you have rebooted more than once after the clockwork recovery was installed you may need to install it again.

c) if all else fails try as different recovery See Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754563

7. choose select zip from sd and find the update.zip and flash it.

(this requires scrolling up and down with the volume keys and using the camera button to select the options and to confirm the actions.

8. reboot and wait a while. Your phone is now upgraded, but the camera won't work.

can take a few minutes

9. turn on wifi or the data option in wireless settings.

these are off by default after upgrading

10:go to settings>applications and make sure the unknown sources box is checked.

11. download the univeral androot package on your phone from Link: http://bit.ly/aa4jxJ

When prompted install it

12. Once it is installed, find the androot program and run it.

It will probably fail the first time so repeat the unlock. Even if it says it worked unlock it again.

13. Your phone is now rooted so we can make the changes to sort the camera out -Now go to the market and download root explorer

14. wait till its installed then look for the program and run it

navigate to the sdcard directory and click and hold on the build.prop and select 'copy'

navigate back up .. (top icon - parent folder)

Then navigate to the system directory

press the mount r/w button

now select paste

allow it to overwrite the existing build.prop

press the mount r/o button

close the program

15.reboot the phone.

16. you will need to put your original APN settings back in to get gprs/3g data working - Link: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/streakdroi...tings-data.html

17. Go to the marketplace and download flash

spend the next hour surfing for flash porn sites

Notes:

when you start the gps you will loose the data connection on the gprs/3g so go back to settings>wireless>data and uncheck it and recheck it and the data will come back. Also since there is now no dell buttons for gps on/off so you have to enable it by going to Settings>locations and security > use gps satellites to turn it on.

Some programs will ignore the landscape/portrait orientation - no idea why.

This has amazingly few bugs for a beta or even a full product - no more than O2's 2.1 build anyway!

Personally I would hold back on putting the build.prop on the sdcard just use adb in this sequence..

adb remount

adb push build.prop /system/build.prop

I thought ADB remount didn't work and you had to use ADB Shell? :)

You may be right since I use adb too , but that meant explaining to people how to open a command window and navigate to the right directory and all the 'what is adb' questions. People don't like command lines any more and tend to mistype which leads to more errors.

I tried to keep this all point and click and no typing at all.

Anybody having issues with fastweb installer of appbrian.com ??

Updating from the MCR 2.1 ROM (had to reflash clockwork recovery for some reason) ... now at the last step:

8. reboot and wait a while

anybody care to quantify "a while"? my streak has been sitting at the Dell logo for 15 minutes - should I leave it a little longer, or pull the battery?

Only issue I have left is GPS not working. I followed 16. you will need to put your original APN settings back in to get gprs/3g data working - Link: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/streakdroi...tings-data.html, updated the ATT settings, it seemed to get a little further along in the navigation app, but still does not pull up a GPS sat it looks like. Before it wouldnt even let me search for a destination, now it lets me search but does not route me. Any ideas?

I agree to a point, but if they can't open a command window and navigate to a directory, they shouldn't be attempting this level of stuff...

Did u try going to - Settings - locations and security - enable the first 2 options - use wireless networks and use gps satellites.

This worked for me

( i installed the update-new.zip file without baseband change )

Also try with wifi turned off

When I started the gps it cut off the data so I had to go to the settings>wireless>data and uncheck and recheck it again, then the first satellite lock took seemingly forever, but after going outside to give it a clear look at the sky for 5 minutes or so it locked and has worked fine since.

Oh as per the post above by Gopu- theres no pretty dell gps on and off button now so you have to enable it thru the settings menu

...snip...

How hard, or what challenges are facing us US Streaker's not wanting to flash the UK baseband but wanting Froyo at this point? I don't like the idea of flashing the 21 baseband again to get 2.1 and then to install Froyo...with my luck they'll be a real US ROM available by the time I'm done and it's a reasonable pain to flash the baseband back (there's several good posts about it here and on XDA). Are we stuck waiting on Dell or Qualcomm for a baseband, or is there something that can be achieved now?

Best idea is try it ive seem some successes going from 1.6 to froyo and some fails

…snip...

Also im just wondering if you managed to find why the streak is using landscape as its native orientation, im using launcher pro + atm and turning off the auto rotate puts me into landcape like previous builds.

…snip...

BlaMe dells weird framebuffer setup

So I pulled the battery. Then factory defaulted. Booted back in under 5 minutes. Now to give Froyo a whirl, cool!

Well a while is a bit difficult - it seemed like 15 minutes to me - but it was probably no more than 5. I've done this 3 times now and after the flashing I go away , make a coffee and hide the phone for 20 minutes or so - otherwise I sit there looking at the logo thinking 'oh god, I've bricked it' till it eventually boots into froyo!

So I think more than 5 or 6 mins is probably a sign that you need to try it again.
