Guest untrueparadox Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Which thread? http://android.modaco.com/content-page/321...streak/page/20/
Guest Ed Venture Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Okay - I just had something very strange happen with my 1.1.1 install. I had my phone sitting on my desk in front of me with the screen off. I was doing some work on my desktop computer and a new e-mail message came into my Exchange mailbox. Not more that a second later (as it usually goes), I heard the notification tone on my streak as the phone received the same message. Immediately following the tone, the Streak rebooted. Occasional reboots aren't strange, after all this is a development release :) What was strange is that I waited and waited, but this time it was not going to come back. So, I pulled the battery, waited 15 seconds, reinstalled the battery and rebooted. It looked like it was going to go, but on the side of the screen of the soft buttons I got a text error message in portrait mode that told me something like "Send the unit in for debug info" (or something similar - like a dumb a** I didn't write it down). I pulled the battery again and left it out for another 15 seconds and rebooted. This time it came back, but it sort of did a factory reset. I say "sort of" because all my apps were gone and everything was set back to default, except there were widget errors on my home screen where the widgets that were installed prior to the event resided. I have not done a factory reset yet, but was thinking that might not be a bad idea before I take all the time to reinstall everything. But it occurred to me that there might be valuable debug info that could be retrieved. Steve, can you advise? Is there data that you can use from this experience?
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 not unless you can get into adb and grab me a tarball of the entire /data folder
Guest Ed Venture Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 not unless you can get into adb and grab me a tarball of the entire /data folder Well its pretty jacked up - FC just about everything. Fortunately, I could set my mail account up and I had backed up Root Explorer to my sdcard. I was able to install Root Explorer and have just zipped the /data folder. Now to get it off and over to you :) Since I don't have my data cable with me at the moment, I will try to mail it off to myself and post it to you. Like I said, it's pretty jacked up - some apps work, some FC, so I may be limited.
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 sounds like something may have screwed up on internal sd
Guest Ed Venture Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 sounds like something may have screwed up on internal sd That could very well be. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the case. Good news! I was able to send myself the zip of my /data folder. It occurred to me that there might be personal information stored in the /data folder that I wouldn't want floating around for all to see. How do you recommended I send this off to you?
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 pm me a link /email me it driectly ?
Guest Ed Venture Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 pm me a link /email me it driectly ? Done deal - just sent it off.

I'm not surprised... the SAME thing happened to me minus actually seeing it happen. I didnt think it was relevant cos it's happened to me twice before. The first was when I was on 1.6. The second one happened when I was on 2.1 and was adamant I wasnt going to upgrade to 2.2 until I could safely restore from a nandroid backup. The third time was a few days after I upgraded to 2.2. I got the same message asking me to send the unit in for repair but I ignored it and re-flashed... re-installing all my apps in the process. I have a sneaky suspicion it may have had something to do with an app I installed called SuperUser [from XDA forums] Anyway.. it's 3 days now on Steve's Froyo 1.1.1 and fingers crossed it doesnt happen again. Cos that will break my spirit... In the mean time, I'm doing daily backups with Titianium Backup.
Guest Tacoman667 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Hey Steve, when Dell releases their Froyo kernel are you going to look at it for your build? I would think it would have all the hooks you need straight from Dell right?

Guest mancterrier Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 This involves a full wipe I take it steve?
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 it *should* work without wipe but i havn tested that myself, so backup is wise
Guest sukicat Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Is there any Diffeance between New baseband and 2.1 Baseband and would it be best to stick with the 2.1 Baseband just in case that you might want to Install the Dell 2.2 (I won't but you never know )
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 baseband will be reflashed by dells update anyway, and the new bb will stop random flashing lights and in theory could improve batetry
