CyanogenMod 6 port for Pulse

After the fairly successful port of Froyo to the Pulse, I've decide to try porting CyanogenMod 6. If this is successful I hope it can one day be included into the official CyanogenMod releases.

CM6 is built on Froyo, but adds many extra features. For many of the bugs we are experiencing in Froyo, we have been looking at how they were fixed in CM6. So rather than port the fixes to Froyo, why not port all of CM6 to the Pulse.

There are still a lot of issues, so use it at your own risk, and don't complain if a feature you feel is important doesn't work.

It is too big to fit on the 1.5 system partition, so you must update to a 2.1 official rom before installing this.

Google apps is not included and must be installed seperately.

Current rom: beta-0.30

GApps signed zip: gapps-pulse-20101020-signed.zip <-- install from recovery

The rom is provided as images that must be flashed with fastboot. I tried to build it as an ota update, but its doesn't include the /data partition and there is a file on /data that is required for the first boot. I will try to fix this in a future release.

Thanks to Flibblesan for providing hosting.

Hi Tom,

My device (Huawei 8220-6) has a few space on flash, so I need to use my SD space for swap, app and etc.

When I flashed your ROM, my device uses internal memory to swap.

Is it possible change swap to SD on a swap partition?

Is it possible create a link in internal space to sd-ext partiton on SD Card?

Best Regards,

Suender.

Simply use the gapps from the first page.

And flash the dta2sd

Nothing special.

About swap.

Why don't you install Swapper2 application?

That's the best option.

That way you can choose from swap.file to swap partition (mmcblk0p3).

Cheers!

EDIT:

BTW

Compcache was the best that TOM included in this rom.

Because with compcache now our pulse is even much faster.

Best regards

No network terthering options, why?Would you add it?

you can use proxoid or easytether/pdanet app for wired tethering no build-in options

for mee seems to be the best easytether

Hi Toti,

can you please explain how compcache is working and how it speeds up the pulse?

Thanks

The wifi is connecting OK, but when it looses the signal, it seems not to reconnect automatically when back in the range.

i tried out the Blade WifiFix in the market or appbrain as a workaround for the standby issue, when the pulse doesnt reconnect wifi. ok we dont have the blade, but it works for me.

you have to wait about 10 sec. then it reconnects. maybe this helps.

Swapper2 is using a lot of precious memory, so I don't like it. I'm using 32 MB swap partition now with default swappiness 60, it's the best configuration in performance. Compcache is working, but it's not worth the power, what our processor is eating when compressing things to memory.

My best config is a2sd lowmem-optimum with 32 MB swap partition and swappy 60... it's not multitasking-friendly, but everything is loading-working hell fast...

Googling on google I find something very interesting.

I init.rc in the boot.img you can change the partitions mount points.

Well.

What if the sd-ext partition mmcblk0p2 you change the mount point to /data?

With High high class mmc we could get even 1GB data memory.

also in that case mtdblock2 to /cache

That way the dalvick-cache will be placed by default in /cache because it'll be up to 110MB

What about mtdblock3?

Well mount it on /swap for example and create swap.file and mount it as swap.

That way we could have very fast swap.

About compcache?

If somebody wan't to increase the battery life then turn it off in CyanoGenMod Settings.

But still the compcache is speeding up our Pulse.

This is optional.

But to do this people really gonna need at least Class6 SDCARDS

Best regards

Hi,

I have just put on this new rom and followed all of the instructions on how to install. All is good, other than no WIFI.

Im guessing this is a common problem - is there any way of getting the phone to connect to a wireless network? Ive put in the network name and WEP key, however doesnt seem to want to do anything.

Anyone able to help.

Hi,

please help me, what does it mean, wifi mac is incorrect? Does it mean, that it displays an other mac address, or it changes the mac addres after every reboot, or what?

So, the reason is, that I have a place, where the wifi works for a given mac address. I can change, but of course, not daily.

Thanks a lot!

You turned off compcache, why?

Using lot of processing power (so eating my battery) and don't give too much benefits. It's better without compcache, swap partition is faster, phone feels more snappier. At least for me, with Class 6 SD-card.

Nice.

But.

Swappiness 60?

Not bad choice.

That way if you reedit the surf_keypad.kl

and set the DPAD_CENTER to be your HOME Button?

Well you will get really nice multitasking.

I don't, I have A2SD lowmem-optimum killer settings. If I have default, then Android fills my memory (and swap!) with apps, and it's causing hickups, when I try start any programs. So, I don't really need this type multitasking, what I need is really fast program start with lot of free memory.

My Home button is the red one, working nicely, but android internal killer is kicking my programs off from memory, when they going to background. I need this, this led me to a really fast phone.

Disable surface dithering. Use OC kernel (with SetCPU - Up threshold 15%).
