Guest totiadrenalin Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 (edited) No you have to use swapper 2 or dartremor a2sd to use swap. To check the memory usage, go to terminal, type free. So you can see if swap is already enabled. It is possible to activate swap on boot without swapper2 even without dta2sd. The only thing you need to do is to create a shell script. type this into new text document mkswap /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 swapon /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 and save this as (13swap) adb remount adb push ~path-to/13swap /system/etc/init.d/13swap And that's it. You will active the swap partition on next reboot. Just to mention. Use some Linux text editor, and never use any Windows text editor. Other wasy, the script wont work. Guest exitium Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 i have swap activated "buffers total used free shared Mem: 107412 104148 3264 0 20 Swap: 19324 10232 9092 Total: 126736 114380 12356 maybe my swap partition is too small?
Guest DanWilson Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Tell me two things. What mod version is 0.4? (6.1.1, CM6 Stable - whatever one that is) And why the hell is it that every time that I flash a new ROM, DTA2SD works until a reboot, then fails and I can't receive texts (no memory)? Makes me ;) Is there any point in me upgrading from 0.3? Oh wait, I planned to go back to the old 1.5 MCR.... Meh, screw that! :)

Well yeah, out of memory, but if you use swap? Well you will never get out of memory, because of that every data, that you doesn't use, but it's process stays in ram will be cached in swap. And that's way you will always have enough free ram memory not only for the messages (mms.apk), but for even for multitasking to. And if you are so interested about what is better in .40 then .30 CM6.1? Well speed and stability. That's better in the new rom. Personally. I don't like 0.30 cm6 rom at all. It's even more buggy than 0.20 rom And if you have plan to use the Pulse as regular phone? Well then why don't you go back to the stock 1.5 Huawey rom? ;)

No. That's the compcache ramzswap0 not the swap partition, which is mmcblk0p3

But the CM-build contains a function, that the SMS-App stays in memory. Do you use this option?

If on boot time the ram memory goes overloaded then the messages service wont start. you can check this in: Settings->Applications->Running services You should see there the (Google Messaging Service) If you don't see that service in there? Well simply start the Messaging application. And this will trigger the Google Messaging Service. Even then you will be able to receive messages without any problem.
Guest exitium Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 No. That's the compcache ramzswap0 not the swap partition, which is mmcblk0p3 ummm. what? :) can u please explain more detailed, what should i do ;) ? ty very much

I have 100MB of SWAP, you think I can run out of RAM? :( And if you are so interested about what is better in .40 then .30 CM6.1? Well speed and stability. That's better in the new rom. Personally. I don't like 0.30 cm6 rom at all. It's even more buggy than 0.20 rom I noticed. I just flashed it. Too lazy to set it all up though... :) And if you have plan to use the Pulse as regular phone? Well then why don't you go back to the stock 1.5 Huawey rom? ;) I might. Once I get my Desire Z anyway. Although I'll probably use it for testing Toms ROMs. ;) @Ellia - I use Swapper2 anyway. :D
Guest peelie Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 No. That's the compcache ramzswap0 not the swap partition, which is mmcblk0p3 so how do you check if swap is working - see if there is a mmcblk0p3 partition?
Guest totiadrenalin Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 so how do you check if swap is working - see if there is a mmcblk0p3 partition? Unzip this and use adb push You have read me in the zip fileSwap.zip
Guest Tom G Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 so how do you check if swap is working - see if there is a mmcblk0p3 partition? adb shell cat /proc/swapsShould tell you what swap spaces are active.

Guest twrock Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) How can i change it when i pressing the Red button the pulse dont go to sleep? When i press the red button i want to close the running App. That setting is now in "Spare Parts", an app in your drawer. (Incidentally, a search of this forum would have gotten you the answer quicker, since this has been covered many times already.) Edit: Looks like I was beat to it by seconds. :( Edited December 25, 2010 by twrock
Guest twrock Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Ahhh, nothing like a Christmas morning fresh cup of coffee and a fresh install of CM6.1beta0.40! ;) I gotta say, I think it was better to have started over from scratch instead of updating from 0.30 (which is what I had been running). Things are running noticeably smoother than before. And I finally figured out what to get rid of before flashing the CM rom and Gapps so that there would be enough room for DT Apps2SD and my other rom tweaks (mostly Chinese stuff). And I really don't think that the basic CM6.1beta0.40 rom DTA2SD and the Flibblesan's Pulse version of Gapps will fit in the space. Before modifying it, I had experimented with a basic install of just those three and was always missing apps after the install. So I can only suggest that anyone who tries to do it this way, do some rom modding first. As always, YMMV. And as always, I could be wrong. :( (Edit: And, since CM by default does not permanently remove Gapps from /system during installation, the /system partition remains overly full, even if you do a factory reset/data wipe. I don't know how the install scripts for the different versions of Gapps are set up, but I'm pretty sure they don't delete anything out of /system either. So once /system is full, it stays full, even if you change to a different/smaller Gapps. So, my solution before attempting this latest fresh installation was to first go in with CW Recovery and format /system. That's the only way I could really create the space necessary for DT Apps2SD and for the other apps I wanted to put into the rom. Hmm, I guess I can see how the default installation system for CM can be disadvantageous. But in general, I understand why they chose to do it that way.) And, for the record, no, I'm not being a Scrooge. We are celebrating Christmas late this year because of family. So, Merry Christmas to all! Edited December 25, 2010 by twrock
Guest hugolost Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Spare Parts->End button behavior->Go to home I cant find these option. I used ADW.Launcher.
Guest Ellia Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 I cant find these option. I used ADW.Launcher. It's a normal program which you can find in the app drawer.
Guest jacksonrodeo Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 I cant find these option. I used ADW.Launcher. or: Menu, Settings, General info and option, End button behavior Jack
