Guest spoonium Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Unfortunately you cannot rely on one single run. Should do a couple of them, filter out the outliers and make an average.
Guest EMMJAY Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Yes me too - a Massive difference on Launcher Pro (with 7 screens) it doesn't chop or jerk any more It must be 32MB in the next build. would changing the heap size have impact on battery life?
Guest thomas01155 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I get ~410 with 32mb and sebs rom ;D
Guest xzyk Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 looking in build.prop, the froyo 2.2 on here has changed this to even more; 48m !
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 i use 48 it seems nice mid point - max you can use is 64m
Guest Broc Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Running seb's r5, I'm getting 364,376,365. I'd like to change from 24 to 32 but I don't get the edit option in root explorer. Delete it, knock yourself out, move it, no problem, but edit it I can't do. Perhaps I don't have root access but then I did manage to install r5, so at some point I must have. I don't remember telling the damn thing to give me fewer privileges since.
Guest rayraven Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Use the VM Heap Tool from the market, its way easier.
Guest Broc Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 I wasn't rooted earlier but I still can't edit that file now that I am. Rayraven, you suggestion has worked, thanks. @24: 364, 376, 365 @32: 380, 389, 369, 363 @48: 371, 354 hmm
Guest chall32 Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Running gforums froyo, which comes with 48M default. Changed to 38Mb. Feels much better now. Crazy Birds (v1.3.5 - not upgrading due to all the bad feeling about the update), stock launcher & now launcher pro all feel and run much smoother.
Guest vigadish Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Use the VM Heap Tool from the market, its way easier. Quick question. I'm currently running Seb's R6. I've rooted using Universal Androot. Reading the description of VM Heap Tool on the Market, it states that a "FULL ROOT (aka S-OFF or NANA unlock) and BUSYBOX" is required. Could someone shed some light on this as am unsure what is mean or required by this. Thanks in advanced.

You can simply download busybox from the marketplace - it's a set of unix tools.
Guest vigadish Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Unfortunately was getting Force Closes when attempting to install BusyBox. Only wanted to increase the heap size in order to run Angry Birds without any lagging. Just realised that Titanium Backup actually installed BusyBox anyway so no problems? Edited November 12, 2010 by vigadish
Guest rayraven Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 You need to have busybox installed before you even install VM Heap Tool. Easiest way is to install Titanium backup and let it install busybox. Then install VM Heap Tool from the market.
Guest vigadish Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks rayraven! Launcher Pro is definitely faster/smoother. Will test Angry Birds at lunchtime.
Guest rayraven Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Angry birds is faster since the 1.4.2 update, but some levels are still sluggish. Not sure if its because its trying to get ads.
Guest gidtf Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 I am running the stock rom and have it rooted with universal androot and superuser installed. Titanium backup, busybox and system app remover are all installed but when I try to run the VM Heap toop it force closes. Not sure if its something I,m doing wrong and looking for a little help. Thanks Andy.
Guest rayraven Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 I had that issue too, but make sure you install VM heap only after you have busybox installed. If you had it installed before, it force closes. Re-install after busybox and it should work.
Guest Broc Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 I tried to install busybox but it told me it had failed... I went ahead and installed the VM heap app it worked. I later backed-up using titanium which told me I needed busybox first and it basically installed a suitable version of busybox for me.
Guest gidtf Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 I'm sure busybox was installed before VM Heap but I will uninstall/re-install busybox and try VM Heap again later. Andy.
Guest gidtf Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Tried the above and VM Heeap still force closes when run.
Guest tom619 Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 is the general feeling that 32 or 38mb runs the sf well?
Guest rayraven Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Okay, was helping a colleague change Heap Size and observed the force closes even with busybox installed. What i did to fix it is, to install VM Heap, unroot & re-root the device and then run VM Heap. It worked perfectly. Hopefully, this'll help those of you who have been getting force closes.
Guest x.balli.x Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) got this on froyo with 48m, done couple of more and average was 912, i managed to hit 956 once........changing it to 32/38 doesn't make a difference, but am happy with it Edited November 12, 2010 by x.balli.x
Guest gidtf Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks Rayraven, that worked a treat. Now got Heap set to 32mb.
Guest rayraven Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks Rayraven, that worked a treat. Now got Heap set to 32mb. Glad to help. Looks like the apps are force closing while trying to get super user permissions. I removed universal androot and installed super user permissions from the market. Working fine for now...
