Guest ladiko Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 wow, thanks for all those pictures!!! i think i will go for the CR-115, cause it seems to be the easiest way to fix the phone. But i'm not going to cut it, becaus it also reduce the area on which the phone is fixed. i guess more area will compensate the fact that it will not be centered. thank you all for your work (taking pictures, uploading etc.)! the satnav on the pict seems to be igo --> http://www.igomyway.com/markets/wireless-navigation
Guest wakaru Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) (...) I'm not mocking your mod Wakaru, it's fine, only wondering if it's really necessary if you're happy with it being off centre. wow, thanks for all those pictures!!! i think i will go for the CR-115, cause it seems to be the easiest way to fix the phone. If I remember well, the first times I tried it when it was off-centre the phone was also inside a E71 silicone case, hence this might have been a reason why the phone could have vibrated more than usual. I guess that you can try it off-centre for a while and see if it works for you. Then if you consider it is good enough, there's no need to cut the silicone/plastic excess. All in all, as stated earlier, cutting the excess off do not have any negative impact on how secure the phone is hold anyway. ZTE, Where did you get that charging cable? BTW, what is that sat-nav app you are using? It looks good. ;) (...) the satnav on the pict seems to be igo --> http://www.igomyway.com/markets/wireless-navigation That's right, it's iGo. At this moment not as advanced as the PNA versions based on WinCE, but a nice SatNav software nonetheless. So far it is the only one I've tried in my San Francisco, so I could not compare with any other. Edited January 17, 2011 by wakaru
Guest ZTE Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 ZTE, Where did you get that charging cable? It's a Startech Micro USB cable - A to Left Angle Micro B. Available from eBuyer, Amazon and others. Make sure it's a left angle version or the cable will stick out the top! ;) That's right, it's iGo. At this moment not as advanced as the PNA versions based on WinCE, but a nice SatNav software nonetheless. So far it is the only one I've tried in my San Francisco, so I could not compare with any other. Thanks, I've been using Google Maps Navigation, which is amazing for free. However, it does lack some options you would normally find on a dedicated SatNav and it requires a data connection while in use. I'll have a look at iGo. Cheers...
Guest mouseman99 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Can anyone recommend a mount/holder that does not stick onto the Windscreen? Does anyone else use either an air vent or the dashboard. I find its hard to remove the suction marks from the windscreen on these type of holders and it does increase the risk of having your car broken into. What are other peoples' thoughts on this??

I'd be interested in this too...I have an air vent one that I used with my HTC Magic (I think it was just a REALLY cheap one from dealextreme) but it just has two adjustable side bits, I would prefer one that had a base support as well.
Guest evilpaul Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 The Nokia CR-122 (and probably all Nokia mounts) comes with a base plate that you can then attach to the dash by the adhesive underside. This provides a smooth surface to attach the mount's suction cup to the dash, rather than the windscreen.
Guest dmg195 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Does anyone know if any of these mounts will work with a San Francisco with a silicone cover on ? I'm presuming they're such a close fit that the cover would need to be removed each time which is too much of a pain to be bothered with.

Guest evilpaul Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 How adhesive is the adhesive? lol No idea as I've not tried myself.
Guest rowanmoor Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I find its hard to remove the suction marks from the windscreen on these type of holders and it does increase the risk of having your car broken into. Do you actually remove your car mount when not using it? My understanding of the increased risk of break-ins is that the ASBO brigade assume that if there is a suction mark it must mean you have a satnav you have taken off (as you are not in the car) and there is a good chance you have it in the glove box. If they see a phone holder sitting there then they are not likely to think the same thing as you are almost certain to have taken the phone with you - it being a phone. That is assuming they have the intelligence to think that far, but I would expect so if they can think far enough to equate a suction mark with a satnav.
Guest d4m4n Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I bought this CR-115 (3.34£, 5.34$ shipped): Nokia CR-115 from DealExtreme
Guest wbaw Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Poundland have them ;) They aren't the best, but they fit quite well & they're £1.

Guest TomDroid Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Does that stick to your dash aswell, or just the windscreen? Just got one yesterday, awesome mount, best I've owned (and I've had a few!). It doesn't stick to my dash, but that's not a problem for me. I got it from FoneM8Store (via Amazon), £7.70 all in, arrived next day!

Guest Arr Too Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Just received this one, which I'd ordered a couple of weeks ago. Does the job nicely: holds the SanFran firmly in an easily detachable cradle and the arm is solid (not wobbly) and easily configured and locked in place.

I've just ordered one  All that's needed now is a protective case & a suitable handsfree car kit .

I ordered one on your recommendation, but its a bit too tight on the Blade, its not meant to hold it so tight.. and the USB cable to charge is a tight fit when the phone is in the cradle. OK, but not the best cradle.
Guest rwalton159 Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Fancy creating a superb inexpensive phone and then not following it up with proper accessories. "This year they could all have been millionaires" Nokia or the other biggies would never do this. I use Co-Pilot on my SF (it's superb) but I have to put the SF on the passenger seat, so I have to rely on voice directions. It's useful to glance at the screen now and again. I keep watching this thread and there doesn't seem to be anything that does the job satisfactory without a bodge job. Edited February 6, 2011 by rwalton159

No need to cut anything as the holding bars are narrow enough that it doesn't cover the volume buttons. Its very slightly off centre but that hasn't caused any problems with stability as the mount is very solid. Most budget/midrange phones seem to rely on 3rd party accessory providers now and in the case of car docks there is a wealth of ones that will fit.

Glad you're happy with it. :P I don't fancy sticking the holder to my cars dash as it would have to be left in place. This may then mean someone would be tempted to break in to my car to try and find the sat nav / phone etc. You're correct about reliance on 3rd parties for accessories. Missed opportunities! Anyway, I've ordered the CR-115 from DealExtreme. £3.41 inc p&p Edited February 6, 2011 by rwalton159

For this sort of thing I'm pretty sure crooks recognise that its a phone mount and who leaves their phone in the car?
Guest fLaMePr0oF Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Bought one of these from eBay, highly recommended... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT I think it's almost identical to the one featured near the beginning of this post which has since been out of stock. It was very cheap and is an excellent product, one of the best mounts I've had and fits the Blade perfectly :P fLaMePr0oF
Guest DroidNewbie2010 Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Hi those who bought the car kit windscreen mount for Omnia 900 with a in-car charger for their SF... does the in-car charger fit SF? Cheers
