UPDATE:

I have fixed the problem with the help of some folks on #dellstreak, I followed this guide, http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8214

Good Luck!

I have this problem excactly, I had sucessfully upgraded a att 1.6 streak before and I have follow the step just as I did on the other streak but this time after hitting the camera button, the progress bar starts and gets about halfway done. Then I get the error : Assert failed: write_raw_image"/tmp/boot.img") :Error in /sdcard/update.pkg/dec (Status 7)

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for the step by step, but I am getting the following error.

I am currentlyj on AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) and want to go to O2 1.6 (build 4399) so I can upgrade to eventually 2.2.

I have successfully:

1. gained root access

2. installed the Dell PC utility

3. enabled fastboot

4. flashed the stock recover ROM with fastboot (recovery.stock.img) Pulled battery and removed USB

5. booted to recovery. After choosing the "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" option, i am taken to a screen with blue text on it. It tells me to hit Volume Down to exit or Camera button to proceed.

6. After hitting the camera button, the progress bar starts and gets about halfway done. Then I get the error : Assert failed: write_raw_image"/tmp/boot.img") :Error in /sdcard/update.pkg/dec (Status 7)

I initially thought it was a bad pkg file so I downloaded it again from an alternate browser. No luck.

Any thoughts? I really want to get off this OLD 1.6 and onto the 2.2 that I love on my Moto Droid1 (CM6.0 Nightly).

Thanks

Upgrading from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to Stephen Hyde's 2.2
  1. download Stephen Hyde's 2.2 update zip from here.
  2. Rename update-new.zip to update.zip and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
  3. Download recovery.alt.zip from here.
  4. Move the recovery image into the same folder as the fastboot.exe.
  5. Put your Streak into fastboot mode.
  6. Open up command line type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img
  7. Hold down both the volume buttons and type: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot in command line.
  8. In recovery select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. In the ClockworkMod recovery menu select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card and then Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip. Once it's all done select reboot system now.
  9. To enable data go Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and check off the Data enabled button. Then select Access Point Names and manually add the apn info for your carrier.
  10. You should be all set up and ready to go with Froyo!
If you want to gain root use Universal Androot (download information seen above).

If you don't like the new screen density you can change it whenever you like by going into the /system folder and editing the build.prop file. Just change the line ro.sf.lcd_density=140 to ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to go back to default (changes will take effect after a reboot).

NOTE: There is a problem with the market where certain apps will not show up and to my knowledge we still don't have a fix for this.

I'm not good at reading all of the posts but it's worth mentioning that upgrading from 8105 will require a new baseband to be flashed if it hasn't already been done.

I didn't follow the instructions properly and ended up with 2.2 installed but no signal - unknown baseband in phone settings!

It doesn't matter if you flash the new baseband before or after the update luckily!

for instructions see steve hyde's how to here.

I think that's what I did missed also, the baseband update.

I went from 1.6 - 2.1 - 2.2, and it all worked, but on 2.2 I didn't have any network.

What 2.2 rom did you use? I'm going to try to get back to 2.2 today.

edit: Do I need to upgrade the baseband before I move to 2.2?

Hello,

I have the Official Dell Streak 2.2 12792 BUILD which doesn't work because its locked to O2 which I don't use.

I have tried to follow the procedure to get to the 8805 build so I can then load Steve's 1.5 Rom but once I have used Fastroot and then tried to go in to the recovery from update file it just goes blank. It has been sitting there doing nothing for an hour.

Any ideas on what I need to do to get back to 2.1, preferably with a 8805 baseband so I can use the above Rom.

Help would be much appreciated.

I have a very serious problem here, ive gotten to the point where the download recovery done thing is done, and i put the 4399 update on my sd card, rebooted and selected option 2, and it will sit there for a few seconds, the home and menu button led flash for a little bit, then the menu button stays lit up, a green progress bar loads and then about a third-halfway through it just reboots, and goes back to the normal firmware. im really confused as to why this is happening, because it doesnt seem to be happening to anyone else. help, please, im really eager to play games at much faster speeds & flash and im somewhat annoyed that this keeps happening. any help is appreciated, thanks.

I need to know if I can uninstall the TheUnlockr root I installed on my Streak before installing the recommended Androot?

Can I install Androot over TheUnlocker Root?

Does it matter?

Will Installing the Androot overwrite the TheUnlocker Root?

I'm so sick of waiting for the update on my 6601!

Please reply. No other sites/blogs answer...

total newbie here ;)

i am using windows 7 and i'm stuck onthe fastboot part. i get stuck on "waiting for device". i'm on at&t streak and i'm sick of waiting for the official update. i read i could flash to baseband 00 then use the official update for it

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!

I have spent the better part of my week struggling with my RebelSim streak after upgrading to DJ Steves 1.5 no baseband but from a 6941 build of 2.1

I have been to hell and back trying to do downgrade to the required 8105 build of 2.1 from his rom.

Until I found this thread.

Thank you and keep up the great work.

To write this I have basically pulled together all of the most pertinent information about upgrading and downgrading the streak into one big guide. Enjoy!

I would like to thank everyone who wrote guides that helped me with upgrading and downgrading my Streak.

If you are just getting started with the Streak, please read the What you need to know about the Dell Streak guide. Amongst other things this guide will show you how to set up fastboot and how to use it, which is essential for these guides. It's very easy to follow and has pictures! (Thanks Radddogg!)

READ EVERYTHING VERY CAREFULLY! THE GUIDES AND ALL FILES BELOW ARE USED AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Make sure you have over 80% battery life before you do these guides!

Table of Contents

  • Starting from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601)
  • Starting from O2 1.6 (build 4399)
  • Upgrading from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to Stephen Hyde's 2.2
  • Downgrade from Stephen Hyde's 2.2 to O2 2.1 (build 8105) & Downgrade from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) with Baseband Downgrade

You do not need to root your streak to upgrade to O2 2.1 so if that's you just skip to the Upgrading from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) to O2 2.1 (build 8105) section. If you are not planing on upgrading but would like root access, you will need to unlock the Unknown Sources setting first.

    Unlock Unknown Sources:
    1. Open the phone dialer and type: *#*#307#*#* (the screen will flash and seem like nothing happened)
    2. Go to the app drawer, you will now see EMList, open it (if it doesn't show up try a reboot).
    3. Scrool down and select app_security
    4. Select update unknown resource property to enable it
Go back to home screen and go Menu > Settings > Applications > then select Unknown Sources. To remove the EMList application, go back into the dialer and type: *#*#308#*#* After a reboot the EMList icon will be gone from your app drawer.

    Gaining root access:

    1. Download Universal Androot and install it.
    2. Open it up and select Superuser for Android 1.5/1.6 in the drop down menu.
    3. Tap on Go Root, after a few seconds it will tell you it was successful. If it fails the first time tap it again and it should work.
With the Universal Androot app you can unroot at any time by opening the app up and selecting the Undo Root button.

    Upgrading from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) to O2 2.1 (build 8105)

To go from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) we need to go to O2 1.6 (build 4399) and then upgrade to O2 2.1 (build 8105).

    1. Download the stock recovery ROM from the first post in this thread and the official Dell ROM from here.
    2. Rename the Dell ROM Update.pkg and copy it to the root of your microsd.
    3. Put the recovery image you downloaded into the same folder as the fastboot.exe.
    4. Turn off the Streak and put it in fastboot mode by holding down the camera shutter button then press and hold the power button until a white screen comes up.
    5. Tap on the Fastboot button in the top right corner.
    6. You will see Wait for USB Fastboot detect, wait 10 seconds and then plug in the usb cable from the computer.
    7. The screen will then change to say Fastboot_Mode. In windows go to Start > Run... > type: cmd and hit enter.
    8. Now navagate to the fastboot.exe file with the cd command.
    9. When you get there type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.stock.img
    10. When it says Download RECOVERY Done! on the Streak pull the battery and remove the usb cable.
    11. Put the battery back in and hold the volume up and down buttons down while pressing the power button, it will boot into recovery menu.
    12. Select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.
    13. The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 1.6 (build 4399).
Now your AT&T Streak is on the same build and version of Android as the original UK O2 Streak. If you've made it this far upgrading to 2.1 is a piece of cake.

[*]Download the O2 2.1 (build 8105) file in this post.

[*]Rename the file to Update.pkg and copy it over the old file in the root of your microsd.

[*]Turn of the Streak.

[*]Hold the volume up and down buttons down while pressing the power button, it will boot back into recovery. Be patient it will take a while.

[*]Select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.

[*]The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 2.1 (build 8105).

You can use Universal Androot to gain root like above only select Superuser for Android 2.0 ~ 2.2. It will say it failed but if you do it again it will work.

I followed all the instructions to go from build 6601 (Locked att usa streak) to the 4399 build. After I select Software Upgrade via Update.pkg, I get green writing on my screen saying no update

found on SD card. I was very careful to follow all instructions to the letter. Any thoughts or anyone have this problem, Thanks

I tried AT&T 1.6 -> O2 12.1

When I got to the last step "Select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while," about 80% way down, it gives me an error message saying "Assert Failed E: Error in update.pkp.dec" something like that. Can anybody help?

Thanks...

I am having a very difficult time going to Steven Hyde's 2.2 ROM. I have tried everything that I have read in modaco, xda and others. There seems to be a step that I'm missing but i can't figure ity out and the forums aren't helping. This could be becuase I'm not even sure what I'm looking for. I have 2.2 BB 30500 Build 10688. Thank you.

I don't see the guide to go from Steve's 1.6.1 to official 318 eu unlocked version. Need to send my phone to dells service and I want to make sure everything is back to original dell. I only see posts for att or o2. I need unlocked eu version.

Anyone care to send me the correct link?

put 318 update.pkg on sdcard

flash via fastboot recovery 309

fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img

reboot via fastboot with both volume button preset .... go to option 2 and update from pkg

fastboot -i 0x413c reboot

If anyone is having trouble doing this from O2 1.6 to ATT 1.6, remember to set the applypatch and .sh files in the System.zip to executable (chmod +x filename). This wasn't working for me and for hours I struggled with it until I realized that my executables weren't set to be executable.

:D (Thanks Radddogg!)

Hey guys. I'm trying to get back to stock. I'm currently on the O2 2.1 Rom, and every time I flash the O2 1.6 Rom it boots to a black screen and I get to do a qdl restore. I've downloaded the Rom a few times now thinking it got corrupted, but it didn't seem to help. Following the destructions at the top of this thread. Anything pop into your heads on what could be going wrong?
