Guest firedup Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Funny the way you shoot yourself in the foot :) As long as you are happy with what you purchased, that is the most important! For me, no choice as Flash and HD 1080p capable is a must (2.2 + Tegra) I have to say, I am also disapointed by this extra waiting time but my Bank account isn't... Yeah that would be nice but I'm really not bothered about 1080p. For me HD is only worthwhile on a big TV. Yes OK so you could output it with HDMI out but it's not something I'm bothered about really. Flash support? Just boot into Windows 7!!
Guest P.K Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 I'm ready to be flamed or whatever but I just ordered a Viewsonic Viewpad 10 from Misco as it's in stock and I was annoyed at waiting for the Vega. It has dual boot Android and Windows Home 7 for £430 + I get £125 cashback for trading in my ancient cheap net book making it nearer £300. YES I KNOW it only runs Android 1.6 due to Intel restrictions. BUT the CEO has been on record to say they won't actively discourage users from putting on whatever operating system they want, hinting that it could be hacked to 2.1 / 2.2 or maybe even Google Chrome. YES I KNOW Windows 7 isn't ideal for tablets. SO THEY SAY. I'm not expecting it to work brilliantly with the touchscreen but at least you have the option of having full blown functionality of Windows 7 when needed, and it has 2 USB ports so you can easily add a mouse and hardware keyboard if needed. I'm sure there will be other flaws people are eager to point out but it fits my needs for now. Plus I'm sure we can hack it and get 2.2 up and running. If they are true to their word I should get it in the morning so I will post some initial thoughts tomorrow night. Wintel? For Tablets?? Your got to be kidding me!!! Go and stand in the orner until you've learned your lesson.
Guest SilentMobius Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Yeah, not touching a wintel tablet until it passes 8hr+ use with wif-fi and screen on. And I don't see that happening any time soon For me, its all about the hackable, always on slate. So far it has to be the Vega, and soon I hope. PA said it best but, for me, obviously, not directed at apple.
Guest k jules Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Look what I found, another rebrand of the Vega, Point of View Mobii Tegra tablet: http://www.pointofview-online.com/showroom...;product_id=188 no different specs, but the battery is specified as 3300mAh
Guest _dg Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 What about the Elonex eTouch from ToysRus? Cheaper and possibly available sooner.
Guest Carbonize Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 What about the Elonex eTouch from ToysRus? Cheaper and possibly available sooner. I believe that's the same as the Next one which is getting awful reviews. However it is £30 cheaper but I think the Next one has a 8GB SD card supplied.
Guest SilentMobius Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) Just came back from our local PC world (Reading). They believe they will be getting them in next weeks order, that is on Friday. We shall see. Edited October 30, 2010 by SilentMobius
Guest Colin B Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Went into PC World in Cardiff today and they say the Vega is not due to be onsale until the 18th :)
Guest Kevrae Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 hi guys the vega is officially launched on the 18th. I Received the launch pack for all tablets we are going to be stocking before christmas. These include: Samsung galaxy tab - November 1st Toshiba Folio - November 1st (exclusive 21 day launch) Advent Vega and Amico - 18th November Archos Tablet - cant remember launch think its 1st again there we one or two more of the cheap alternatives but am unsure of all the details, I will Repost the info on monday with exact information. Sorry for not being 100% but I didn't bring a copy of the information home and cannot remember all of the details. I do know we will be sticking the Galaxy tab also on contract with T-Mobile. I may be able to upload some of the launch pos for the vega and galaxy soon but I'm not quite sure how I stand with work if i upload it, but then again its just a little bit of info and specs nothing we don't know already. Cheers again guys.
Guest ritdaw Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) What are peoples thoughts on the Folio 100 then? I believe its going to cost a bit more, but still less than the tab! I don't know why I'm itching to get a tablet so much, such a shame the Vega isn't out Monday - could of had it in my hands! Edited October 31, 2010 by ritdaw
Guest k jules Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I'm also thinking about getting the Folio, mostly because I don't now when I'll be able to get a Vega to Holland. It's essentially the same as the Advent, but with WiFi b/g/n and 16GB internal and a SD slot instead of a micro SD.
Guest Kevrae Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I'm fairly sure the Toshiba Folio is going to be available for £329 that price is really stuck in my head from the launch docs not absolute but fairly sure.

Guest shutdown Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 any idea what the stock will be like. is it big stores first and then the trickle down to to little 'uns? thanks for the insider info, gutted it's yet another 4 days on top though
Guest fonetastic Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Does anyone have any info on the Viewsonic G pad? or when its coming out. Quite fancy one of these new tabs but i want 3g aswell (and i dont want to wait till next year!)
Guest MarkoUK Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 @Kevrae - thanks for the info. Great work keeping us updated. Would be nice to get photos of the POs and maybe the flyers for the range of tablets due in.
Guest Kevrae Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 not sure about stocks yet, but can say its only WNR (fully refitted stores) and also any space-mix stores (stores that have been moved around recently) that will have supply.
Guest shutdown Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 well that cancels Mansfield stores then :)
Guest firedup Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 well that cancels Mansfield stores then :) If you are willing to travel half an hour the one in Arnold was recently fitted so this should fit the criteria.
Guest Kevrae Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 It doesn't say anything about any of the non refitted stores being able to sell them just not for display purposes, what that means if you ask in you particular store I'm sure they could order one in for you if necessary.

Are you still expecting them to have actual stock in store today of some of these? Should we expect the website to be updated?
Guest Kevrae Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 thus far i can see a large number of WNR stores have the Samsung galaxy for demonstration, they are larger superstores for the moment. no stock of other models as of yet unfortunately. as with the ipad itself it was not updated on the website for about a month, this was because stocks were tight and therefore saved for the stores. this may be the case but I am not quite sure. i will try to keep you guys updated as and when.
Guest shutdown Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 If you are willing to travel half an hour the one in Arnold was recently fitted so this should fit the criteria. but that means going to Arnold, not sure which is worse :) Derby has a big store and can just jump on the A38 after work to visit. loving the inside information we're getting here, thanks for your efforts
Guest Kevrae Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 dont mind helping out and cant see that im in breach of my contract as i would tell any of this to a customer in my shop, just using the 21st century technology to help those not in my shop.
