Guest BooToo Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) Look what you get today when trying to access Curry's website... Site currently down for essential maintenance To improve your shopping experience with Currys, we are further upgrading our website. Unfortunately this means that the website is currently unavailable. Please try again later. Are they doing a new release the Apple style or they just have a poor IT Department incapable to avoid maintenance downtime ;-) Edited October 26, 2010 by BooToo

Guest Chevvy Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Same on the PC World and Dixons websites :P Anybody tried ringing any stores to see if they have stock?
Guest Matrix Mike Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Anybody tried ringing any stores to see if they have stock? After my encounter in person I think I will give a the phone a miss :P
Guest SilentMobius Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 PC World site is back up... nothing new though. I'll bet we'll hear from out PC World spies when they have them in the warehouse but they're not going to get them in stores before then.
Guest retrend Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Cant wait for this, flaws and all. lol@ people expecting minimum wage shop staff to have a clue about anything.
Guest Bobbler Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Cant wait for this, flaws and all. lol@ people expecting minimum wage shop staff to have a clue about anything. The amount you earn has NOTHING to do with a persons knowledge level does it? Kevrae - one of the "minimum wage shop staff" from PC World has taken time out of his day to give many here a bit of inside information on stock etc and didn't have to,
Guest ScaredyCat Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Early spec suggested that OTG was enabled on the full-size USB port (for keyboards and the like) so that may allow usb tethering with a Nexus One running CM6. Which would be much more battery efficient than wi-fi sharing. You don't need CM6 at all to do USB tethering - Froyo supports it directly. SC
Guest SilentMobius Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 You don't need CM6 at all to do USB tethering - Froyo supports it directly. SC Yeah, but plenty of networks have neutered it in subsidised phones. Getting quite ansy now, no news isn't always good news. _Really_ looking forward to this
Guest P.K Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) Do we have any new information at all regarding the Vega tablet? I have been scouring the web for the last few days and have found absolutely nothing. Even in PC World and Dixons no one seems to know anything about these tablets. Its hard to believe that one of the hottest gadgets of the year will be released in just 5 days. Do we have any news on stock, marketing or availability? Edit: Also, what is the story with its 3G modem? Some sites say its included, some say not. It clearly has the housing for a sim card but I think its just a dummy slot until they add the 3G chip next year. Does anyone have any firm details on this? Edited October 27, 2010 by P.K
Guest john newhouse Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) i am desperate for these tablets to start shipping. i really want to replace my laptop for web browsing and media watching asap. i think the hardest thing is going to be waiting until some reviews of release hardware is available before i decide between the archos 101 and the vega Edited October 27, 2010 by john newhouse

What do you think we have been doing here? My advice to you: read the posts from the beginning and you will find pictures, video, detailed spec and inside info from a Dixon folk... Guest BooToo Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 5 days to go until the 1st of Nov Still no Tab on Dixon and Curry's website... :P
Guest MarkoUK Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 5 days to go until the 1st of Nov Still no Tab on Dixon and Curry's website... :P Yeah, it's a bit suspicious and very frustrating. My pockets are completely holed now with the length of time my £250 has been in them. Maybe we won't see it online until after the Vega is released in store? I'm not sure how hot the Dixons group are with products like this, I don't know if the iPad appeared online first or instore first. That would be a good benchmark. I had a look at the wayback machine but nothing in there for PC World etc after 2005. This waiting is destroying my brain.
Guest P.K Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Robert Dyas are now doing tablets. Here is the 7"Intempo. Its got a lower spec, older OS and higher price than the Advent Amico and its £199. Its in the shops right now. Its probably worth less than half what they are charging. Within a month everyone from Dixons to Greggs will be flogging their own rebadged Android tablet http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/product.php?product_id=151247 Edited October 28, 2010 by P.K

Guest shutdown Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 seems odd that there's no hype from dixons to promote the tablet. meanwhile the galaxy tab is eating up all the headlines. come on dixons/pcworld...give us more news please...or at least a real release date? or maybe the date has slipped
Guest shutdown Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 i stand corrected: http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/Advent_Vega-1...commercial.html

Guest charlie_82 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 and even worse news: http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/10/28/ad...a-release-date/ 14 November sucks! But still better than December or January :P The ad is definitely promising
Guest Bobbler Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 14 November sucks! But still better than December or January :P The ad is definitely promising It does, though it's my birthday that day, but it now means I wont be getting this for it as the wife will not let me have nothing to open on the day :D . Also I wouldn't be surprised that's not going to be the shelf date either. Do people release products on Sundays? Seems a bit of an odd day to do such a thing.
Guest MarkoUK Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 How did you find that? Duh, I've been looking at the 3 sites for a while but missed that banner today! Currys: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/Advent_Vega-1...commercial.html PC World: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/Advent_Vega-...commercial.html
Guest john newhouse Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Damn, well if the Archos 101 gets some decent reviews from users who have the hardware in their hands prior to mid November, then i will probably just end up getting that. to be honest, i was leaning that way anyway, as i like to have the extra storage options that the archos gives me.
Guest P.K Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 14 November sucks! But still better than December or January :P The ad is definitely promising Gutted! I want to be put into a coma for the next two and a half weeks.
