Presumably the reason the phone part doesn't work is because the Chinese model has a CDMA radio instead of gsm?

I belive so.

system/app/Phone.apk/res/xml

Also, we dont have a baseband ROM that matches what the phone is expecting results in lots of 'Unknown' in the About/Phone

Ouch, the sf does seem to have attracted a new breed of n00bs! Just ignore/block them if you can.

n00bs are not so bad, everyone has to start somewhere, and I've got an unfair advantage over just about most people here...

but its the guys who are demanding I 'fix' this rom as they want to sell it... in my dim and distant past I was involved in a number of console scenes and the N64 was the worst, guys would come along demanding to know here the latest games where so they could sell them..

It got to the point where release groups would sit on releases because they objected to the blatant profiteering that went on.

And if you ever wondered why it took months for a working crack for Jet Force Gemini....

Mind you, those files exist in the Orange version of Phone.apk too....

Anyone care to check the build.prop to see if there are any 'ro.cdma....' entries?

Maybe you could get Paul/Mods to ban users who are so blatent re profiteering, after all we aren't allowed to sell items through the forums, or simply respond that when they send you a share of the profits they make, you'll consider taking their requests into account.

Anyway, good work and keep it up!

On the Radio side of things, I notice that the UK SF has options for CMDA as well as GSM, so wonder if this is a mistake or the phones are actually equipped for both

Possibly there for roaming? Are the setting live ie could the phone switch to use them if it detected a CMDA network and no GSM? Or are they dormant?

Nope - A GSM radio can't talk CDMA as the frequency access model is different. One uses chunks of time (GSM is TDMA) and the other uses identifying codes (CDMA) to seperate signals.

You could have a CDMA phone with a GSM radio in it but typically these are deployed where CDMA is the home network and they roam onto GSM - never seen any GSM networks supplying phones that roam onto CDMA - yet :P

Oh well, it was a thought !

Earlier in the thread someone claimed they had the phone function working using 2.1 libraries. Every time I come back to this thread there is some additional good news regarding some aspect of the ROM becoming functional on the Blade. I suspect a fully working release of sorts is not far away.

Exciting times!

I'm uploading my build now.

It has all the Google bits in, but you can't sign in... which I think is a symptom of the phone part not working properly - so if we CAN get that going, we'll be set.

I should bloody hope so.... do you know how many ebay retailers have sold handsets on the strength of this? Get a move on!!!! :P :D :D :P Edited by Blasphemous

Ouch, the sf does seem to have attracted a new breed of n00bs! Just ignore/block them if you can.

That's because the handset is such great value for money. It's tempted a lot of people to move to android.

Paul, I won't send you pms...I'll just drive the 25 miles to your house and knock on your door! :P (JOKE, before anyone accuses me of stalking).

Seriously, guys - please lay off those working their arses off to develop a working rom for you. Read before you post or pm people, as the answers are normally contained in the posts. Seb said the phone part of his rom wasn't working and that it was slower (due to HW acceleration not being turned on). There really was no need to pm him about it. Also, for the guy who moaned that it's affecting his ebay business - TOUGH. Don't sell stuff you don't yet have. I hope you properly donate to these guys from the money you're making off their hard work.

On the Dual GSM/CDMA side, I downloaded MSL Reader from the market and switched my phone to WCDMA mode, the reader said it wasn't a CDMA phone so I guess chances are that it's just a mistake that the option is there and our phones are just GSM (unless the chinese version is different), though it does seem odd that the options for Auto GSM/CDMA is there too.

Considering the shockingly bad job ZTE/Orange did of cleaning up the release rom, I'd just assume it was overlooked....

WCDMA = 3G!

P

ah ok, so in effect the option to use 2G only is redundant as you can set it via GSM only under the other menu?

looking forward to your upload finishing so I can have a play at lunchtime.

Anyone care to check the build.prop to see if there are any 'ro.cdma....' entries?

So, your thinking is that if the Orange rom has facilities for BOTH types of radio, maybe the Chinese one also has the potential to use both ...

Perhaps the thing to look for is where in the Orange rom the radio-type-selection is being made, and then look for something similar in the Chinese 2.2?

I was talking to a guy at Nokia a while back about the way Orange add their 'branding' software to phones. He said something like, 'We spend something in the order of 5 man years writing and testing the firmware, Orange then take a couple of months adding their cr*p and when it doesn't work it's our fault!!' (he wasn't a happy camper).

Knowing the problems with Orange branded firmware I'm surprised they do ANY testing before release. I think they regard the customers as a beta test group and then just fix think when they have to (or blame the manufacture)...

there are a few guys with Gingerbread on their devices, and there are some screenshots going around, eg:

They have the guy from Palm working on the UI, so it should be Pretty...

I thought the only difference between the V880 and the SanFran was screen and RAM?

I see no evidence anywhere it's a CDMA device.

I used to have a Sony Ericson P990 which was designed to be a business phone, but the Orange version was specially ruined with crap to download ring tones/music tracks/etc/etc...

I met a guy who was in-charge of France Telecom's Handset Acceptance Department (or something like that) at Barcelona Mobile World Congress last year, I was asking why Orange always got the new Handsets months after the other networks, and he said it was because they did more testing and integration than the other networks.

I would say something about the bad job they have made of it, but I've heard the guys who work in the testing department have lost their jobs are part of the Everything Everywhere debarkle. Maybe they never finished it?
