Guest truxntrax Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 i have some problems with the dual sim now. whenever i change the simcards (sometimes i need shortly to switch to fly mode after that to get a succesful switch) no data connection is possible. when i look up the apn section, it's empty and i cannot enter any new apns either. switching back to the first sim doesn't change the picture. i'm quite sure that the apns are still there, but they aren't shown any longer and thus not selectable. only a fresh start gives me the apns back. this is quite annoying but i didn't find any way out so far. the "fly mode" issue will probably also prevent the phone from the automatic switching being succesful. didn't get to try it yet due to other more urgent problems as these... Thanks for the update... I believe there is an app that does the switching and goes in and out of flight mode - have you tried that? Appreciate the updates. Rather odd as you say it used to work. What happens if you reboot?
Guest bobhund Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the update... I believe there is an app that does the switching and goes in and out of flight mode - have you tried that? Appreciate the updates. Rather odd as you say it used to work. What happens if you reboot? The behaviour is quite erratic. Sometimes switching the sim cards just works. Sometimes I have to help a little by entering the fly mode for a second. I also have the feeling that the apn settings don't always disappear. I just saw them "surviving" one switch. But switching back made them disappear again. A reboot does solve the problem though. I made a short movie clip showing how the thing works for me (and how the apn settings are gone after the switch). Maybe that helps. It takes some time to upload, I will add the link in a short while. Edit: Edited November 24, 2010 by bobhund
Guest SpeRator Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Someone know which Dual Sim work without these problems?
Guest pelliott Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 i received my dual sim adapter and it works so far. i'm now going for a walk to test gps. http://www.dual-sim-adapter.com/ Edit: Works with GPS :P I'm fully content. I ordered the dual sim adapter from the m-99 site, cut down the SIM's and put then in the adapter but could not get it to work, the phone reported no network coverage and could not log in. They both still work seperately but not together in the adapter, one is a 3G and the other is and older work one that is pre 3G, I'm not sure if that is the issue or if it is the adapter. If it is the adapter then it might be worth trying www.dual-sim-adapter.com. Can anyone help?

I'm not sure myself which kinds of cards I have. My German sim card (O2 Germany network reseller) does connect to 3g network without problems. The second sim card (Vodafone Netherlands) has some problems connecting to 3G networks as it seems. I could not connect to Vodafone Germany 3G (roaming) neither to Vodafone Netherlands 3G properly. Connections just breaks down. As workaround I'm now using 2G only mode when using the Dutch card which is working fine for me. I haven't tried Vodafone 3G outside a building yet, so maybe that may also be a reason for me to lose the connection. I will do some research on that issue as soon as I have some spare time to take a walk outside. It just seems that all this dual sim stuff isn't working 100% perfectly. There seem also to be some GPS issues, as it sometimes needs some further sim card switching to get the gps to work. I didn't really discover a pattern. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it just doesn't get a satellite fix...

Thanks for the useful feedbck on this, I'm going to risk ordering the UTMS dual SIM adapter from www.dual-sim-adapter.com, I'll let you know how I get on with it in the UK using my two Orange SIM's.
Guest truxntrax Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Please post back your findings. (My requirements are two Orange Sim's also).

I checked yesterday using the 3G network of the second card (in roaming mode) and i could make a call, thus I believe it just works. I think that the problem of connecting to Vodafone 3G (German and Dutch one) has more to do with the fact that I was inside a building and the networks were quite weak.

I think that the problem of connecting to Vodafone 3G (German and Dutch one) has more to do with the fact that I was inside a building and the networks were quite weak. It took a while for my card to arrive but it came yesterday and I can now report that so far it is working ok. In order to use it properly I needed to download the SIM tool kit app (STK) which seems to work fine on my froyo r3 build and allows me to swith between SIM1 and SIM2. http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...t/#entry1362482 So for me www.dual-sim-adapter.com works fine but the cheaper m-99 one does not. I'll report back again if I find any problems.
Guest julespom Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Hi, it looks similar (on my screen) to this but this is under £4 delivered- do you know if it is the same? I am looking to put 2 in my San Fran- one for data on Giff gaff, one for calls on o2? Thanks, Jules http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUAL-TWIN-DOUBLE-SIM...#ht_1948wt_1141
Guest Rotmann Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) That Adapter does not support 3G/UMTS Data, it's rubbish. Look on eBay for MagicSIM 26th or on eBay.it for "ADATTATORE CELL DUAL" there is a guy in Italy (Art. no. 190478073824), they work pretty well with android phones, I am gonna try in 1-2 Months myself. Could anyone confirm that if using the 3G Cut Adapter from dual-sim-adapter.com with the STK, the APN does not dissapear? That would be a no go for me because I have a voice SIM and a Data SIM, the Data SIM is the main one and the voice one gets switched once a day or so because I don't call so much. Guest Rotmann Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 That one is rubbish too, it won't work for our purpose. If you want a 3G dual sim adapter don't look at those cheap ones because they won't work. This is the cheapest what I could find: Click!
Guest cidersid Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Just to let you guys know I have tried the cheaper ones off ebay which claim to work with 3g without success however I just received my new 26th gen MagicSIM and so it works great - can't find anything that isn't working yet. I struggled to find a "cutting" version as I don't think the "non cutting" method will fit in the phone but eventually found someone who sent one out and I received it 2 days later for £14.99 (in UK). The only slight problem I seem to have is that when I switch SIMs the phone seems to lose my password for gmail so it automatically brings up a notification saying I have to enter it again - not a big problem to be honest. If interested I sent this seller a message asking if they can get hold of the "cutting" version 26th gen MagicSIM (as they don't appear to be selling it on ebay). I paid them via paypal and they sent it that day, very helpful too. Says they are the official UK distrubutor of MagicSIM. Oh, it's a bit fiddly but make sure you use the slim cover and not the standard one which is already on it... I managed to break a ZTE Blade by using the wrong one - the SIM adaptor got stuck! Hope this helps someone. Also, does anyone know if there is a way of setting up SIMs to automatically switch at a certain time of the day? Basically I want my phone to use my "work" SIM Mon-Fri 7am-6pm and then my "playtime" one at all other times. Cheers
Guest julespom Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Thanks- I will order that one then- what is the slim back you refer too? So I should be able to put o2 sim in and use it for calls and texts, and when i want to surf, switch sims and use the data on my giffgaff? Thanks Jules
Guest Rotmann Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Hi, thanks for the feedback, I told you the cheap ones are rubbish and the MagicSIM 26th is ok :) I would not buy the "non-cut" Version though because of being afraid that it does not fit. The password request for the google account when changing SIM is not a bug but a feature to protect you if your phone gets stolen or lost. Do both SIMS work with active 3G Data Connections? Does the APN disappear when changing from one SIM to another? Look in the market for MultiSIM, don't know if it has a schedule for something like that.
Guest cartierv Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 I was interested in this. Stupid question, but if SIM A is active, and I get a call to SIM B what happens ? It sounds like it will just will go to SIM B's voicemail or nothing at all. This seems to defeat the purpose of 2 SIMs for me; i,e 2 incoming numbers on one device. And I would be better off just to have two phones.

If you want active dual sim there are plenty of cheap phones on ebay, just search for "dual sim phone", just look for "dual sim dual standby or 2 sim active at same time" in the descriptions. China phones are very good, but don't expect 3G or UMTS or good quality camera on them, they are good for texting/calling for their price.
Guest cidersid Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) Ok guys, after a day of using as many functions as I can on the phone to test out the MagicSIM here are my results: Switching is easy using the STK app but whatever you do - DON'T CLICK ON 007 MODE (It's in Dual Sim folder)!!! If you do this there seems to be no way of getting the dual sim menu back without a lot of hassle (I had to take the SIM adator out and put it in another phone to do some stuff to it - just heed my warning and don't do it!). If you decide not to take my advice and have a go you will not be able to switch SIMs until you get it back to how it originally was. 3g works fine on both SIMs - seems to take 10 seconds or so after switching SIMs for the network to come available so just be patient. When my Orange SIM is being used the APN menu shows orange networks and when my T-Mobile one is being used it shows T-Mobile Networks so no extra hard work needed - it automatically finds them no problem. As previously stated you can't have 2 lines online at the same time but there is a function for "dual sim online" function which I think switches them over every so often - I haven't tested this as I have no need for this (and I don't want to make a mistake like I did with the 007 Mode!). I'll be setting my playtime one up on a call divert so I always receive calls throughout the day and cancel it when I switch over at 6pm when my work one will just go straight through to voicemail. The adaptor comes with templates for cutting the SIMs, 2 things that you can put your cut SIM into to make it proper size again if needed, the adaptor and 2 back covers. The cover which is already on it needs to slide off and you need to replace it with the slim one - warning it's fiddly and you'll need good eyesight! Make sure the edges clip over the bottom of the adaptor, it is easy to get it caught just under the circuit board and if you slide it up you'll end up taking the glue out which holds it all together (yes I've done this with a previous adaptor... luckily a cheapo one). Think that's all the questions answered, let me know if you need to know anything else. I'm well pleased with it. Oh one last thing, I installed the MultiSIM widget - doesn't do a great deal but it is quite handy. Basically all it does is shows a logo in the notification bar of what network you are currently using (if you slide the notification bar down it also shows your number). Guest ThrashMan Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Please be extremely careful with dual SIM adapters. I broke my 1st SF with one by pushing it under the SIM slot from the wrong side (from the top) as that's the only way I could get it in. It bent the "fingers" that touch the SIM and they snapped off :D|
