Guest jutley Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 I tried it again, also by putting out the battery before that progress but just the same FTM screen as before. This is really frustrating since the regular method does not work for me as well  flash recovery again it has not installed corectly.
Guest lfc96 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Thanks for the guidance. At last I made it.Had to reset first(don't know why).
Guest jutley Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Thanks for the guidance. At last I made it.Had to reset first(don't know why). yes it would be a good idea to do a factory reset before you start all the procedures just for good measure.
Guest fredewis Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 yes it would be a good idea to do a factory reset before you start all the procedures just for good measure. watttttttt this is mad possibly the easiest way to de-brand your sf i mean the only way ....done it in 10 mins from the beginning ..incredible ps download app share from market you can get apks for terminal there thankx man this guide cant get any easier seriously people read and follow simple asssssssss.........
Guest jimrad Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) Hi guys.. finally got it sussed...from what I can gather these were the issues stopping me doing it first time.. * Windows 7 wouldn't load the ZTE USB drivers (Did it today with a Vista PC) * Took me a while to figure out but I was typing exactly what I was seeing on Jutleys tutorial and was typing in -r2-blade.img when in fact the image I downloaded and installed on the SD card was -r2-blade_4.img. Cheers.. jimrad Edited November 10, 2010 by jimrad
Guest Bob@Desire Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 (edited) EDIT: I did it  I get stuck at the "FTW" logo. I was holding down the down volume and power button all the time but no success! The recovery image is still on the SD Card. Any ideas? Thanks Edited November 14, 2010 by Bob@Desire
Guest mikeyp7771 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Thanks for this info. Just copied all the files needed to SD card (better terminal, universal androot, root explorer, custom recovery img & Pauls custom rom). Noticed I also get the root explorer forced close error so using filer like previous poster. Universal androot installed ok as did better terminal altho it asks if I want to install the additional features, i get an http io error when trying to download these. I presume the additional features are not needed for this process as better terminal opens fine without them (edit: indeed not needed, expect they fail to download due to not paying for the app). Will root phone and have a go tonight now Ive got all the files needed. edit: all done no prob, altho i did mine in a slightly different order. A couple of observations: 1. As previously mentioned root explorer is not needed, just use inbuilt filer. Just needed to copy Androot, better terminal, custom recovery image (from step 4) & debranded rom (from step 9) to the SD card. I did this 1st using a card reader, as fone wouldnt mount via usb cable. 2. Then factory reset fone for good measure (it doesnt touch sd card). Then installed advanced task killer and stopped all running apps (to free up memory), this is optional and probably not needed. 3. You can then go to filer and navigate to sd card and install androot and better terminal. 4. Open Androot and root phone. 5. Open better terminal and follow steps 6 onwards. Jone done. Fone now mounts via usb too which is a bonus, guess the custom rom sorts it. Edited November 15, 2010 by mikeyp7771
Guest prestonmale Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 hi and thanks for this threat. i`m a newb too and was wondering what kind of roms i can use with this method, as i have already downloaded a froyo update.zip id like to try out. also, will the roms have to be especially for the SF or can i use roms for other android phones aswell? id quite like one with a black status bar. thanks for your help....
Guest HMZX Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 Nice guide. this will definitely help noobs (like me...) B)
Guest facespace Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Cheers, that worked perfectly. Only thing I bodged up was holding the 'down' volume key, I read it as hold down the volume key, not specifically the down key. Thanks again.
Guest Sandy mk1 Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Great guide guys.... I took my time, and didn't even break into a nervous sweat, but in less than an hour my box fresh Orange 2.1 was updated to unlocked and 2.2. Fantastic..... I've got a number of family members looking to get a snazzy phone, I'll be showing them this and i'm sure they'll want me to sort them out. Outrageous how good this phone is, aside from the cheap-o case/build. The screen blows my 3GS away... A worthy addition to the household and I've finally got an android phone to play with.
Guest brush52 Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 Hi As a complete novice (first smartphone) this worked fine. I now want to go the 2.2 route using the flibblesan rom discussed here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...zte-blade-beta/ Can anyone confirm that to do this I simply need to copy the rom onto the sd card, rename it to 'update.zip' for ease and then action steps 8 - 10 at the beginning of this post. I think it's just lack of confidence but confirmation from an old-hand would be much appreciated. Thanks

Guest Digital.Diablo Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Ordered a SanFran finally after eyeing them up for a number of weeks. Going to sim unlock/root/flash the phone, but I see several reports of the IMEI being blocked when bought. I don't intend to use the Orange SIM, but does the phone need to be activated on Orange before I can do all the other stuff?
Guest Just Wondering Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 I was wondering with this rom,do I need to access marketplace for the first time with 3G ? also can I add files to the install directory of the rom so it also installs a few extra programs?
Guest seefy Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Hi I had a few problems with the fastboot method, mainly due to drivers I think so I thought I'd go with your non pc required way of updating the rom. Happy to say it worked like a dream...so many many thanks...awesome guide :P
Guest Rusty! Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Totally off topic and probably a n00by question but can someone tell me how to add the "connection status bar" that you can see in the 1st photo? V useful for turning wifi on/off quickly. My launcher pro doesnt have it (although standard launch does) but I havent got a clue how to add it? That's the Power Control Widget, it's built in to Android since v2.0
Guest Astec Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Thankyou SOOOOOOO much for this. Was struggling to root as PC on Vista, but this worked a treat!! No more nasty Orange stuff, all working perfectly (inc market), top guide. Any chance this can be stickied to help others?
Guest kaska_pt Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 hey guys, will this will work for LCD and OLED SF's right? tks
Guest Edsh0t Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 After following this guide my phone seems to be broken ;) . If I power it on without holding anything the green android stays on, if I power it on whilst holding the volume down button it goes to the 'ftm' screen. Also, if I hold the volume up then it just shows the green android... Only had this phone 1 day, any ideas? Thanks
Guest Broc Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Are you holding down the power button also or only the volume down button?
Guest Kthulhu Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 hey guys, will this will work for LCD and OLED SF's right? tks In theory it should work but the rom you use must supprot TFT-LCD. But be carefull if you do not have much experienece, so far I have been unable to root the new white SF Orange UK (TFT screen) and I also found that clockworkMod 2.5.1.3 does not work properly in my phone, clockworkMod 2.5.0.9 is fine at the moment.
Guest Edsh0t Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Are you holding down the power button also or only the volume down button? I have tried all combinations including that one, I just get the FTM screen. ;)
Guest pvtcody Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Many thanks for the guide,it was the only one that worked for me after spending 10 hrs trying all the different ways to flash the san fran to its orignal state,as it had to go back to the shop.
Guest jiggling john Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 i did this mod, but i have a weird problem, the phone boots, but if i lock the screen (power button) or it times out, i cant use the phone any more. It recognises i've pressed a button, but the screen doesn't even light up so i cant swipe to unlock. ideas?
