ok guy girls etc i have updated the guide with pics and easy instructions i really can't see how you can mess this up its as easy as 123. Please let me know how you found the guide i am constantly updating it if you would like anything adding or find something confusing please let me know.

Thanks. So far, so good; everything seems to be working fine I'm a complete android noob and even I could follow this. The only bit that was slightly confusing was Step 2. It's probably just because I'm an idiot but when I read it, I thought you meant 'Root your phone with Androot and then copy the file to the sd card'. I think it might be clearer if you said 'To root your phone, copy the Androot App to you sd card and install it with a file manager....'.

When I first turned on the phone with the new ROM, the Clock Widget and Power Control Widget on my homepage couldn't be found. I just had to delete them and then add them again. It's not really an issue but it was a bit strange.

Anyway, thanks again for your step by step guide. My phone is now free of Orange crap... ;)

Ive been trying to get this done for a couple of days now, everything appears to be going correctly untill here

Step 4 download the custom recovery image here http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.p...co-r2-blade.img

when i get to this point the page asks me security question, which i type then press download, it goes to another page which seems to download a load of symbols and letters (presuming this is code of somesort) should step 4 be downloaded with a particular program ;) i know i must be doing something stupid please help a newb.

p.s im doing this through the phone

i can mess it up!!

so, with my sd card in my phone, i attach via usb to computer (xp) (after factory reboot)

out of the 'tools rar' u put together, i extract the universal androot, root explorer and better terminal to sd

unplug usb

goto sd card (in phone) and install the above mentioned files.

am i doing right so far?

thanks for any advice, just had my phone a couple of days and want rid of all the orange crap!

Am i right in thinking that now i've done this i can follow the same procedure to install other roms by substituting step 9 debranded rom for another, but just rename it update.zip !

Tried the other methods when you have to use the command on the pc but these didn't work. Currently backing up my data on clockwork mod, forgot to add my rom i want to install on the sd card though. Hahah fail. Will report back if all goes well. Thanks for the helpful guide :)

Edit - This worked great, got stuck at the Modaco boot logo screen and panicked, but I sorted this out by wiping some data and removing the sd card... and waiting.... Great big thanks.

Hey, I've tried doing this method and I have installed Clockwork... and i have installed the update. My phone is just staying on the green robot now and I do not know what to do.

I have tried wiping the data and still nothing.

Initially, I installed Sebastian's 'r7' after following this guide to get clockwork etc... In clock work I updated using what I think was the 'fat' update accidently... so then I used the other update, the 'lite' rom. And then updated the the fat one again before booting up.

Now when I try to boot my phone it says on the green robot logo. I tried to install a stock rom to undo this but that didn't work.

I'm new to this but I really like the idea. Please someone help!

but then it asks me my sim network unlock pin (wtf is that?) cant use the phone without it

Hope this helps beginers and those who can't get adb fastboot to work its just as simple but all done from your phone instead of terminal on computer.

Can you update this custom recovery to the newest 2.5.1.8 version this way? because i have 2.5.0.9 recovery installed and i need to update to 2.5.1.8 so i can use froyo roms.

Do you have an update.zip on your card or should you be using another clockwork option to flash an image that you have on your card?
