Phone screen orientation only rotates if you tilt to left

The spirit level app 'Bubble' seems to know left from right and up from down (turn on the angle and pitch display to prove it knows and isn't just guessing)

So it would seem to be that most apps have been written to track up and left only, (this is what happens when convention is followed, rather than lateral thought)
