ZTE Blade/San Francisco Unofficial Froyo Build

You don't need to re-sign the apk, you can just replace the icon in /res/drawable-hdpi/ with the normal one, then re-flash the zip. This worked fine for me.

I've attached a version of HTC IME for this rom. It's just pauls original mod re-jigged to work for 2.2. I've not tested it extensively but it seems okay so far.

Cheers,

Andy

HTC_IME_hi_blade.zip

I installed the APKs in the archive you kindly linked to. I managed to get it to work once, then I kept getting the following error...

Not sure why it worked once, then not again, I'll do a little experimenting later on and see what I come up with...

Pretty damn good for Alpha1. Very nice. Just about everything works as has been noted.

My only report (not a complaint) is that it wont roam onto Orange from T-Mobile either automatically or manually.

I tried using the bundled APNs and also by deleting the APNs with APN Backup and Restore and creating a new one (with settings that work in all other roms).

When I try to connect manually to network "T-Mobile Orange" it fails with "Unable to connect to this network at this time".

Just to let you know, I can roam on Orange from T-Mobile with this rom without a problem, just tried it after seeing your post. It could possibly be a temporary local problem and not rom related :P

Thanks wiiija. Good to know. You made any APN changes or just letting it do it's thing?

Edit:- I'm using http://www.dmpwap.net/update2.2.zip but unless anyone else reports a problem then I'll assume it's a local issue.

Downloading now. Anyone tested this. Are the icons now as Froyo intended? Does it remove all/any of the known bugs?

Icons look the same to me ? :P

AFAIK the icons are from 2.1 since they've been changed to such. Original Chinese 2.2 ROM had different, custom icons (not Froyo default ones)

Anyway - does it really matter that much?

Did it work on Android 2.1?

I wonder if the phone was 'activated' properly? (This seems to be removing a bar on the phone's ID on Orange's network.) Its of no consequence -- unless you EVER want to use Orange! There are plural threads on the subject, reporting Orange contract sims not working, etc.

Or is this something that was working previously, but not since this rom was flashed?

Could some kind person zip up the APKs with the 2.1 icon pngs please. Downloading yet another 85MB of data is proving difficult in the Welsh sticks ! :P

thanks.

Anyone else notice that you can now rotate both ways (left and right).

Working in a browser or in most apps. I like it that upside-down doesn't work.

Slightly OT (and n00bish), but I haven't found an answer to this... I'm experimenting with this Froyo ROM, but want to use a new SD card. When I try to partition in Clockwork it gives me an error. Any idea how I might partition this new sd card?

make a "gparted" usb memory stick to reboot from, puts you into a simple linux OS if i can do it so can you! works a treat. :P

I thought you only needed to partition the SD card on 2.1 or below, with 2.2 there is no need to partition.

If you just want to format the drive use http://www.partitionwizard.com/ for windows, works great

Hey, I'm new to this forum, and also droid, I've been reading this thread with much interest though, I've recently purchased a blade, and rooted it right away, but I would like to know what the difference is between being rooted and not, to clarify, when you install apps from say the market, are we suggesting that they only install files to locations that do not need root access, but to install other apps that DO install to locations that need root access the phone needs the ability to "logon" as root first, or sudo?

Also I take you need root access to mod the system scripts? what do you use to make such changes, surely not vi?

And lastly, is the lastest updates located here > http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/ZTE_Blade_2.2 or am I behind?

We are still in Alpha right?

I've partitioned with the wizard. But the SF says "Damaged SD card" and can't see the sd card.

I've installed apps2d.zip using clockwork without any fuss. Windows can see the sd card with no probs.

SF wants to format it to resolve the problem, what should I do?

ALSO; I'm a complete newbie, I can't find apps2d any where on the SF? It's not in the app...?!

I had weird issues with some mp3s not playing at all, and others playing just fine. I tried different players to no avail. It only was fixed when I reverted to Paul's r4 (Android 2.1 in other words), but I'm going to reflash and see if I can get things working with 2.2.

Stuff I've bought on Amazon, Ripped from CD or removed the protection from myself seems all to work fine. Flotsam and jetsam I salvaged from the Bay doesn't. Something to do with DRM?

If Windows can see it and the phone can't I'd guess you've formatted it as NTFS rather than FAT32.

I've found there's a few MP3s that cause the MediaServer to crash. The only way I can stop the 100% CPU usage after it dies, is to restart the device completely.

I've added some LogCat traces to the wiki, it may be helpful if you could try playing the dodgy songs, and see what LogCat shows for you...

Just tried this, 926 quadrant score. Browser is so much faster and apps like Gallery 3D now run so much smoother.

Can't wait for a proper build!

I'm not getting a crash, just a constant toggling between play and pause at about one second intervals.

Sorry, I'm a complete n00b on things Android, what is LogCat?

Anyone else got a touchscreen that randomly dies until reboot?

Just to clarify something, when people say about the new mute feature that's in this froyo build, do they mean the turn to mute option in sounds? And does that happen only when someone calls you? That is mute the current call? Thanks,Chris
