Guest dizzytiz Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I can confirm that it worked for me, and I was very nervous about doing it. Steps I took were: 1. Using WIFI on the phone - browsed/googled for Universal Androot (think I went to http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to...l-androot-app/) - download to SD and unzip. 2. Go to The market, download Titanuim Backup - Root by Joel Bourquard (free) 3. Run Universal Androot. Select Root (if it tells you it's already rooted click just click yes to doing it again) 4. Run Titanium, click on the Problems button at the bottom to automatically install BusyBox 5. I didn't backup first, just start deleting apps. I used the list on Page 3 of this thread to run through the apps one by one. Slowly and carefully 6. Run Androot again and click unroot Done. It really was that easy if you take it slow. Hope this helps anyone thinking of doing it. It didn't really remove that much memory, but I got rid of the orange nonsense, so am very happy.
Guest xeyaztian Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 sure, I removed the batttery (or should I surprise the phone by removing it while it's still on? Probably not a good idea...). Anyway, didn't work. But then, your second comment is puzzling - you say you can "always go back to settings". I thought that THAT icon available via menu button - which won't take me to settings, is the ONLY way to get to the phone settings. How else can I access settings then? Regards, n. Oh is the 4 by 4 dots in the middle gone? Or the the five paneled menu when you press menu. If the you can to youre installed apps, then go to Settings then they are all there, in display and perosnalization.

If the you can to youre installed apps, then go to Settings then they are all there, in display and perosnalization. no, the dots which are a shortcut to installed applications are there, on the screen, it's the settings available (not! B) when you press the "hardware" (menu) button. However, when you go to the list of installed software, that's what there is, installed software, which you can run, of course, but no phone settings. Funny thing is, I don't think I deleted it using titanium backup, I only deleted the crappiest of the Orange apps there. Sigh. So... is it possible to restore the phone to factory settings? Because Orange says: to restore to factory settings (they call it a master reset, I think), you need to... press Menu and then "settings". lol. Regards, n.

Settings is in that list of apps. If it isnt then youve deleted it, but none of those apps in the list of apps to delete are Settings...

And yes you can restore bu pressing the menu (four by four dots) go to settings by scrolling down to 'settings' go to 'privacy' and at the bottom is Factory data reset

However, when I changed from Orange home screen to Android (launcher), when I press Menu hardware button, I get a slightly different set of (5) "icons", one of them is also "settings", and when I press that - no, it doesn't work, but it gives me an error message: "The application launcher (process com.android.launcher2) has stopped unexpectedly, please try again (force close)". While not a solution, it seems to be related to my problem. I think I will have to spend more time on this :/ n.

Im looking in the ROM for a Settings apk now... if I find it you may be able to install Settings, if i dont you may need to ask for my help in a new topic, give me a min...
Guest rayraven Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Pressing menu button while on the home screen should show an option to go to the settings on most home screens. I know that it does on the stock one, launcher pro & adw.

I'm guessing it's because it's replacing one of those... internal apps, which won't uninstall, unless you gain superuser access... oh, here's a change, I shut the phone down, used the universal androot and tried to install the "settings.apk" again. And... it did, it works! Well, thank you VERY much! What worries me is that I still don't know what caused my problem (well, indirectly, my messing with it), why and why it works again. Yeah, I can live with that, but it's worrying me that I'm not quite in control of my phone. now... where was this gps.... ;) so, out of interest, where is the "settings.apk" from? XDA developers forum mentions it... Regards, n.

And I was worried for a while, I got it form the original ROM which holds all the stock apps. I got it form this forum, Its stickied I think. Glad it helped.

Guest RoccoSiffredi Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 So I did a bit of clean up today. Used AndRoot, busybox and Titanium Backup Pro, and uninstalled the following : Who Wants to be a Millionaire - /system/app/glu_zte_blade_wwtbam5_de_en_es_fr_it_1_0_1_full-wrapped.apk Guitar Hero 5 Mobile OD 1.1.2 - /system/app/glu_zte_blade_ghero5_de_en_es_fr_it_1_0_1_full-wrapped.apk Touchpal Spanish language pack 1.0 - /system/app/SpanishPack.apk Touchpal French language pack 1.0 - /system/app/FrenchPack.apk TouchPal 1.1.0 - /system/app/TouchPal.apk Weather - /system/app/MobileWeather.v1.0.4.apk Orange Headlines 2.0.106 - /system/app/Orange_RSS_Widget-build-2010-05-31_08-57-42-version_2.0.016-UI-REFRESH-signed.apk Orange Wednesdays 1.0 - /system/app/OrangeWednesdays.apk Orange Homescreen 1.0 - /system/app/OHS_480x800_Blade_A1.00.01_signed.apk Maps 4.65.87 - /system/app/OrangeMaps_4.65.60.95_Android_Production_signed.apk App Shop 4.2.1.25 - /system/app/OAS_ZTE_Blade-v4_2_1_19-20100526-1-prod.apk Homescreen Selector 1.0 - /system/app/OHSS_800x480_Blade_A1.00.01_signed.apk Mail - /system/app/orangemail_android_721_20_7_386147_signed.apk Backup 1.27.7 - /system/app/PhoneBackup-signed_1.15.3_PROD.apk Photo 1.5.10 - /system/app/Pixota.1.5.7_20100602_WVGA_eclair.apk I've not removed the following yet, but took note of the filenames : OrangeSetupWizard 1.0 - SW_480x800_Blade_A1.01.00.apk TV 1.0 - OrangeTV.apk Your Orange 1.0 - YourOrange_Release_20100429_signed.apk Docs To Go 2.005 - DocumentsToGoViewers_PDF_Eval.apk Hopefully this should free up some more space and is less bloated now ! Hi Mate Managed to remove most of these but how do I access the system folder using Titanium Backup? All I get is the icons not the full filenames? Main thing I want to remove is the ringtone and splash screen.
Guest se7en_mufc Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 I signed up just to say thanks really, i followed dizzytiz's guide and it worked no problem. Need to get me a fancy theme and stuff going now.
Guest cnhust Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 So I couldn't flash my Orange San Francisco, and the reason why I wanted to is to remove the Orange Apps and the game demo's. So I came about a way without having to do anything with ROMs. Will cost you 63p though as I bought an app to do something... Get Universal Androot (I got it from here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598) I got the latest one and it worked, then click root in that app. And wait till its rooted and it will install Super User Permissions. Then download and install Busy Box from the market. Then get SystemApp Remover by Danesh from the market (This cost 63p, theres prob a free one but I choose this and it worked) Then go to SystemApp Remover and delete the Orange Apps(List below) they uninstall and it saves memory on the phone! Root phone with Universal Androot, then delete with SystemApp Remover. Done! I recommend this to anyone who doesnt understand ROMs, flashing and those kind of things and anyone who wants to de-brand it from Orange. I've put it up on my blog as well with links to files and the applications, please visit... http://dailyandroidapps.blogspot.com/2010/...-installed.html YOU CAN GET RID OF.... -Orange Homescreen -Orange Homescreen Selector -Orange App Shop -Orange Photos -Orange Wednesdays -Orange Maps -Orange Headlines -Orange Email -Orange TV -Orange Backup -Your Orange -Touch Pal and the Spanish and French packs -Sim Toolkit -DocsToGo Demo -Weather -The game demos, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Guitar Hero. YOU CANT GET RID OF... -Internet (Even if it does have the Orange logo!) Great work, I removed all the Orange APPs for my Blade following your method, thanks!
Guest xeyaztian Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Glad its still helping everyone!

Guest Digitalize Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Did this to my SF, performance is improved, and its a lot cleaner!
Guest Nedjo Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 this thread deserves to be sticky! It was of great help for me! thanks!
Guest mjm1483 Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Any chance of problems if using this method on the TFT version?
