Guest xeyaztian Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 I take it you have to be an Orange network user to use their apps? I have a t-mobile sim in my San Fran. Thanks Well some of them will only work for Orange like Orange 2 4 1 cinema tickets and Your Orange, but the others may work, though I find the Orange Apps rubbish and im on Orange!
Guest tombii Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) Got a SF on original ROM so theres lots of useless Apps (usually Oranges stuff) that gets started when i turn the phone off. Is the a good App killer that can be set up to automatically kill these tasks when the phone restarts or do i have to do in manually each time. Cheers. Berry If you really want to stop apps from starting when you turn the phone on, then take a look at Autostarts, it will show all apps that start when you boot the phone, when you update a widget, when you enable Wi-Fi, when you install new apps etc. You can choose which apps to disable from starting automatically. Yup this certainly addresses the ROOT of the problem. My eariler post: When I got my Pulse I was quite annoyed when I found apps randomly starting up in the background without my knowledge so I decided to do a bit of research. It turns out that Android supports something called Intents which are basically triggers. So when a certain event occurs (eg. SMS is received) Android will fire off apps that are registered against this event. The problem is many developers register their app against many events for no apparent reason which is why you see so many apps running randomly. Developers abuse this feature IMO. I purchased Autostarts from the Market to disable apps that I didn't want running on certain events. Obviously some apps genuinely need to be launched on certain events (eg. a wifi widget on wifi state change) however I would suggest turning off the apps that don't need to be launched.. http://www.appbrain.com/app/autostarts/com...roid.autostarts
Guest cmberry20 Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Thanks guys. Got Autostarts now. Will take a look over it in the next few hours. :)
Guest cmberry20 Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 ok, quick question about Orange Backup. I dont (cant?) use it because i'm on Vodafone... so... It it ok to delete it? And if i get rid of it is there a good alternative that i can use to backup the settings etc of the phone.

And if you don't use it, then that's the better alternative!
Guest cmberry20 Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 I'm guessing: OHS_480x800_Blade is the orange home screen - never used it. Ok to remove? OHSS_800x480_Blade is the Orange Home screen selector. Now i dont use this but actually use Launcher Pro. So i guess it doesnt hurt to remove this as well? Is 'Pixota.1.5.7' Orange Photo? If so I'm guessing ok to remove as well. I'm only asking as i dont want to remove something & find out that it screws up another App. Cheers
