i have exactly the same issue as the OP but not for an O2 sim, but for Orange's provided sim even activating it 3 weeks ago LOL

it works with Tmobile and O2 i have no signal on vodafone though at all and my G1 picks it up straight away.

hopefully when 2.2 official release comes out i hope they provide a better radio for it :)

Newby here, Amazing site and been brillaint to use. Thanks to everyone for their contributions made this phone an absolute pleassure except for this problem of The "No Simm Card" have had it from the start when I put in my vodafone.ie PAYG card. tried a couple and all no luck. The Orange simm seems fine, although theres little to no signal to really judge it in ireland. I've unlocked it and tried new ROMS but the problem just keeps happening. Mostly if theres a weak/no vodafone signal it comes up with the "No Simm Card" message and I have to open up remove battery and reboot.

So has anyone figured out why this problem exists? Is there a fix or will I just have to flash back to Oranges ROM and get a replacement phone? Is it just I've been unlucky and it's faulty hardware.

Thanks in advance to any one that can help me out.

Old thread, I know - But maybe this will help someone..

I was experiencing the same problem for 2+ days ("No SIM Card" message), following successfully unlocking my San Fran. However, the suggestion below worked for me.

I seemed to have had the same problem today, i took my 02 sim out to put in another phone so i could receive a good mms picture, but when i put it back in to the sf it wouldn't give any signal, and said sim not inserted, i put an orange sim in and it worked fine. So i took out the orange sim and put the 02 sim back in but no luck, i the took out battery and 02 sim, I inserted the 02 sim again, then waited about 30 sec and replaced the battery and managed to get a signal. Don't know if it will be any use to you but just thought it might work if it did for me.

I put the SIM in and waited about 2 mins before replacing battery. When I turned phone back on, instead of No SIM Card warning, I had No Service. I just had to pick a network and it worked fine. Then followed the O2 set up advice Here. So far, so good. Everything seems to be working ok.

Hope that helps.
