I have the same baked rom, well, the hardware accelerated option one. What the hell is VM? Seen it mentioned numerous times and fiddling around in the menus on the phone didn't get me anywhere.

Also, I'm loving the San Fran, its no iphone but then its a fraction of the price. Plus the customisability of it is incredible.

Just changed the VM to 32 and rebooted phone, came on alot quicker than before.

bigisy - hey no worries, I didn't even know what VM was before I installed VM heap ad upped the VM to 32mb, all I knew was 'things will be better' :huh: - I am a sucker for a fiddle.

I think you've missed something, root explorer doesn't work on my device. Could i do the same thing with super manager?

If you have su then you can edit the file with any file manager or text editor. If you dont have su and cant get it working you could copy the build.prop to your comp edit it and use a update.zip to flash it back on.

how to flash it back without erasing everything frommy phone?

just installed update.zip with the renewed build.prop, and now everything's gone...

Did you make a update.zip with only the build.prop in it or is it a full rom with your edited build.prop? if its the 1st then it should not of removed all your stuff.

oh right problem spotted.... so next time I want to replace aspecific file I just zip those files and name it update.zip and they'll do the rest yeh? thanks so much! :rolleyes:

Right. I'm getting into this phone now. Got a few decent apps on it now and it's feeling a lot more familiar.

I've a few more questions, please.

I've installed ChompSMS but although the alert is showing as the one that I want, I get the irritating stock one. Any idea why ?

I've looked around for the Google car dock software but although I can see the new version, where's the version that's ok with 2.1 ?

Anyone located the new Youtube remote control app ? I hear that it does work in the UK but yet again, I've not been able to download it using a QR code or from the Market.

Go into the stock messaging app and disable the notification within in its settings menu.

If you download Pauls R4 ROM, you can just extract it - it's found in system/app

I've looked around for the Google car dock software but although I can see the new version, where's the version that's ok with 2.1 ?

Anyone located the new Youtube remote control app ? I hear that it does work in the UK but yet again, I've not been able to download it using a QR code or from the Market.

I installed the Youtube remote app but although it's obvious that I'm logged into my account on both the device and http://www.youtube.com/leanback, I've been unable to control the PC. Anyone else tried it ?

I disabled the notification in the stock app but I still get that annoying sound. The homescreen shortcut takes me to the ChompSMS app but the one in the apps list definitely takes me to the stock app because I don't see the ChompSMS routing options. Any other suggestions please ?

Check in Chomp to see if it's set to make a notification sound :rolleyes:. In the apps list, it will always show the default app in addition to Chomp, but I wouldn't worry :huh:. Have you tried handcent? I prefer it to chomp as (at least when I tried chomp) it has greater functionality - e.g. the ability to include signatures etc.

Turning off notifications in both apps gave me the desired result.
