But I'm not sure if i have got an AMOLED screen or not!!! I plan on having a look at the box when i get home to see what that says. If i do have an AMOLED screen, can i downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 using an RUU?

Chris

Not using an RUU no, but you can using this guide:

Should help

Thanks again but it didn't happen. It was a slim hope anyway, updating blind TWICE :) Hell, even tried again just for good measure, nothing doing. I feel the vibration from when going into recovery but after that it's anybody's guess what's going on. If I just switch on, it goes into some sort of boot up as the four buttons light up. Same old black screen though.

Foget it, it was destined to fail, I shouldn't have messed about without doing full reseach. No TMUK SLCD RUU = No root for me (providing I get a working phone back from T-Mob that is!)

B)

And to anyone out there I say the following: MAKE A GOLD CARD!!! Use the goldcardtool, I saw it here somewhere but defo on XDA, if you're unsure of the process.

Another reason not to get a branded handset B)

Well i instaled the 2.2 RUU last night and all went well, unfortunately it hasn't solved any of my reception problems (including the phone diverting to voicemail despite showing full signal) so i think i may have to accept that the phone could possibly be faulty and try to return it.

What are my best options as it now has 2.2 which AFAIK was never released by O2. I think it does indeed have the SLCD screen as the box makes no mention of AMOLED just "touch sensitive" or some such rubbish!

Do you think i could just return it as it is (unrooted etc) and hope O2 dont notice? Or should i try and load a non-rooted, O2 branded 2.1 rom on it if such a thing should exist which will also work with an SLCD screen.

Any advice greatly received!!

It was released, lots of people have it from the original OTA roll out so o2 can't turn away a phone with it on...you'll be fine

There's an O2-branded Froyo RUU at http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?categ...4166_signed.exe which you could install before you return it if you've currently got unbranded software on there. AFAIK all Froyo ROMs support SLCD but you may want to check that before installing the RUU.

I posted that RUU on page 1 B) it's the one the OP is now using. See post #4

Thas right i am already on the O2 2.2 RUU. What i have decided to try (in a last ditch attempt!!) is to downgrade to stock 2.1 using the method above. According to the post on XDA this will give me back my original versions of Radio that i have been unable to find as a single flashable file. I'm hoping that its some kind of strangeness with the currenlty loaded radio?

If that works, I've got a nandroid backup of the original 2.1 rom i can flash and hopefully all will be well again!!

If not, the bloody thing is getting returned tomorrow!

If you just wanted 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09 why didn't you say - I'll have that for you later this evening. It's the radio from the 1.21.405.2 WWE RUU

Basically because i wanted to try a few different things like 2.1, 2.2, 5.xx radios etc. All have which have left me with a non-functioning phone (well as good as non functioning anyway!)

I'm downloading the stock 2.1 now but its taking ages so if you have the flashable radio that would be great. I was under the inpression that the 4.xx radio wouldnt work with froyo so will have to downgrade anyway.

Thanks again for all the help Eddy! If you local in south manchester theres a pint in it for you!!

It won't work but if you wanted to go on a custom 2.1 ROM you could always flash that radio. Let me know if you want it and I'll sort it out

Eddy, Thanks again. I have tried so many different configurations of ROM radio etc now that i have decided that the thing must be broken. I am going to return it to the O2 shop tomorrow afternoon for repair.

Be interesting to see what crappy handset they offer me as a replacement lol

Cheers

If you're on the stock ROM and you've got issues then it's going to either be a SIM card issue (might on the blink) or the phone...that or o2 have done something to the antennas in your area

Well i have tried the SIM in a old works nokia handset and it seems to behave perfectly, the girlfriend has a 1st gen iPhone and is also on O2 and that also works flawlessly. Im guessing that means that the SIM and network are both OK. Strange thing is, data seems to work fine!

If someone tries to call me then it almost always (95% of the time) diverts to voice mail and texts take anywhere from 2 hours to never arriving at all! But if she e-mails me, i get it within a minute or two!

Im gonna put the stock O2 froyo RUU back on it tonight and return the bloody thing tomorrow!

WOW, that's OLD!!!!! I don't think the OTA is still live for that build...easiest way is to flash one of the 2.2 RUUs and go from there, the latest being 2.29.405.2 - you can get it here:

http://www.multiupload.com/UOWLL86GVB

Since your version, the Desire's FIRST ROM, there has been:

1.15.405.3

1.15.405.4

1.21.405.2

2.09.405.8

2.10.405.2

2.29.405.2

No worries. Language wise it's dependent on the SIM card as I only get languages compatible with Vodafone SIM cards
