Guest Nos Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Angry Birds on the Advent Vega (as promised) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIun8hbjQAw How did you get Angry Birds working? I downloaded and installed the APK but it just quits to homescreen when I try and load it :/
Guest TylerDurdenK Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 (edited) Crikey, that's better than Blu-Ray (which is at [email protected]). Even though RockPlayer will be doing the decode in software, it'll seriously struggle. Do you not have anything at [email protected]? I'll try this one as soon asit copies across Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : [email protected] Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Muxing mode : Container [email protected] Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 7mn 35s Bit rate : 12.0 Mbps Nominal bit rate : 12.3 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 800 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.40:1 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 8 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.326 Stream size : 651 MiB (93%) Writing library : x264 core 65 r1024M 2652abe Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=0:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x2 / me=hex / subme=6 / psy_rd=1.0:0.0 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=1 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / wpredb=1 / keyint=150 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40 / rc=2pass / bitrate=12258 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=1:1.00 Language : English Audio ID : 2 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : A_AC3 Duration : 7mn 35s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 640 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Stream size : 34.7 MiB (5%) Language : English This one didn't play well. Guest le_lutin Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 does anyone know if I can return the Vega to a Currys store or does it have to be collected? Why don't you ring up your local store to find out?
Guest Bisto321 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 does anyone know if I can return the Vega to a Currys store or does it have to be collected? Don't be that person - not the first returner! (a word?) wait until Paul has had a look at least B)
Guest removed-14 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 How did you get Angry Birds working? I downloaded and installed the APK but it just quits to homescreen when I try and load it :/ That's exactly what I did. It works fine for me. Have you updated your firmware? I have not... yet. does anyone know if I can return the Vega to a Currys store or does it have to be collected? Yes you can. Check the PDF that was attached to your original order confirmation. Why are you returning it?
Guest Nanu*1 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Don't be that person - not the first returner! (a word?) wait until Paul has had a look at least B) LoL I just realise that I'd prefer the Tab with the full Google experience and a screen I can see when it is lay flat on my desk without me having to be right over the top of it.... I've already arranged for Dixons to come and collect the other one... :-s

If its not for you, its not for you. 7 day distance selling reg's rock :) The TAB is a large iphone clone thingy, but it is nice and is great quality, but please don't get it for less than £440 B)

That's fair enough. A store visit would have solved this before buying but that's a lesson for anyone else in the same position.
Guest TylerDurdenK Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 With RockPlayer or the supplied player? RockPlayer, the standard player wont even try to play it.
Guest lnux9898 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 does anyone know if I can return the Vega to a Currys store or does it have to be collected? It can be returned at a store. However, the box has been unopened for them to accept it.
Guest terminaljunkie Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 That's fair enough. I have tried a half dozen stores in the NE of UK and have yet to find one I could try! B)

True I just didn't envisage the screen being so bad, text isn't legible as I lean back slightly. Having the Nexus next to it doesn't help as you can see the screen from any angle... :-D Ah well, not to worry, horses for courses I guess...
Guest arad85 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 RockPlayer, the standard player wont even try to play it. OK - thanks. Bit of a downer, but to be expected. For the sort of files you're trying to play, you'll need the hardware acceleration of the internal player.
Guest Nanu*1 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 It can be returned at a store. However, the box has been unopened for them to accept it. Opening the box just reduces the time you are allowed to return. 28 days for unopened and 7 days for opened. Thanks to whoever it was that pointed out the PDF in the email. :-D

Guest le_lutin Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 LoL I just realise that I'd prefer the Tab with the full Google experience...[...] :-s Surely this tablet will have the full google experience once it's rooted...
Guest Divvet Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 That's simply not true. Google have repeatedly said that ChromeOS is for netbooks, for things with a keyboard and a mouse. They've ALSO stated that Froyo is not tablet-ready, but that one of the upcoming releases (Gingerbread or Honeycomb, details not released yet) will be. The 3G slot has less to do with the market support than the fact Android simply doesn't support greater than 7" screens officially yet. im sorry but i think ull find if you do your research google have said that android isnt meant for the tablet. and chrome os is sighted as being the os of choice.

Just to confirm so that means you can return an opened item to store? nm To quote PC World's website - How do I return a product after delivery? If the product has been delivered and is unopened: • You may return the goods within 28-days from the day of delivery • The product must be in pristine condition without any seals broken on the packaging If the product has been delivered and is opened: • You may return the product within 7 working days* • You are allowed to open the product to inspect it provided you do so without damaging or marking the product or packaging • The product must be unused and must not have been installed * “working days” means all days other than Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays To return a product either go into your local PC World store with your receipt (if the product is portable) or call our contact centre on 08445 61 00 00 or log in to My Account and use the Contact Us facility and we''ll be happy to arrange a collection and discuss an alternative product to be sent to you or a refund. For all returns the product must: * Be complete with all manuals accessories etc * Be returned along with any free gifts * Be in ''as new'' condition We will not be able to accept returns on: * Pre-recorded CD’s/Videos/Minidiscs/Memory Cards/Software where the seal has been broken * Any product where you have started a subscription service, for example a mobile phone contract Edited November 23, 2010 by StarmanUK
Guest Divvet Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Yes, lots of people are getting in a bit of a muddle about why market is not included on larger tabs. Current Google stance is 7inch or under and 3g, Samsung had to do some workaround's with the resolution, but this should be the norm in 2.3 and google have already stated that 2.3 will cope with 1024x600 and that 3.0 (honeycomb?) will be for tablets proper. Google went on record last week ( http://mashable.com/2010/11/15/android-chrome-os/ ) to say that chrome will be for desktop/keyboards and Android is for touchscreen - so we know what OS tablets will be based on then B) i stand corrected, my research = old :)

Guest mirox3m Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 RocPlayer has hardware decode option, system mode. Can anyone check how it works?
