I have not read the hole thread butI a smll snippent that might help some users.

When you plug a brand new Vega into the PC you get the option to install drivers. I just ppinted it to the USB folder in PAuls downlaod and the rom installed a treat after that.

yeah i did all that, got some errors at the end of the installation and cannot download anything from the market, don't know if it's linked to the errors.

Ive cleared cache and data as well, still no joy. just get the red triangle saying download unsuccesful!

hi please help me i have tried every hint and tip i am knowlegdable enough to attemp[not great with computers] and all i get is the following

Device is definitely in USB debugging mode as I can see the "beatle" in the status bar.

In Windows Device manager, under USB controllers I see:

USB Composite Device

USB Mass Storage Device

USB Mass Storage Device

USB Root Hub

ect

ect

When I start "install-windows.bat" from a command shell (same folder as the scripts), I get the following:

* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *

* daemon start successfully *

And then nothing.

when i first install usb driver it says something like nvidia controller or something similar. but once i switch it to debug mode it just says mass storage?

i have even followed steps on the idiots guide but that makes no sense as it tells you to install usb driver and all updates from official website then install pauls usb driver but it just says drivers already updated? so i uninstalled it then tried to install paul usb driver first but it just says no drivers found for your device, which is odd?

please help me getting very fed up now, ishould be enjoying my new gadget and instead im thinking about binning the blooming thing

also in device manager i see disk drives tab when i click on it it says nvidia tegra 2 usb device which is the vega but it automatically updates driver when i install it it doesnt give me the choice to find the driver myself? i am running win vista 32bit home basic.

Try the steps in this guide: http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...-wrong-win7-64/ but selecting the "nvidia tegra 2 usb" instead of the "Android debug bridge interface".

PS. I'll update my guide when I have time (hopefully later today) to show how you can find out which device you need to update and reinstall the drivers for.

You definitely don't have the "Android Phone - Android Composite ADB Interface" driver installed.

Open your Device Mangager and expand the "Disk Drive" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers" lines. With your Vega connected, turned on and in USB debug mode you should see the following:-

New entry under "Disk Drives"

NVIDIA Tegra 2 USB Device

New Entries under"Universal Serial Bus controllers"

USB Composite Device

USB Mass Storage Device

You might have more than one USB Mass Storage Device showing but only one of these should be the Vega. You can identify it by opening its properties, selecting details Tab and then selecting Hardware IDs in the Property drop down box. The Vega entry will have two lines that read:-

"USB\VID_0955&PID_7100REV_9999&MI_00"

"USB\VID_0955&PID_7100&MI_00"

Assuming you have the two new entries under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" you need to check for a third entry which will either be:-

under "Other Devices"

"NVIDIA Harmony"

and will have a yellow question mark and excalmation mark

OR

under "Universal Serial Bus controllers"

"Android Debug Bridge Interface"

and have no warning symbols thereby seemingly OK!

Which ever entry you have you need to udate its driver with Pauls USB driver. Don't forget that to get to Pauls driver you have to unzip once and then in the unzipped version drill down the directory structure via "usbdriver" to "r1-tegrausbdrivers-modaco" and unzip that folder.

If you have neither of these third entries then follow the procedure in my post number 580 on page 29.

Good luck.

Let us know if it worked.

Thanks for your work on this. I have checked on the entries you have detailed and I seem to have them all. I have unzipped the USB driver as you said, but I am not entirely sure what I should be doing then. I have tried allsorts but still end up with rhe same message I previously detailed about *daemon started succesfully*. There is obviously something very basic I am not doing, I just don't know what.

I had exactly the same error, I just left the Vega alone for an hour or so and it started working, my suspicion is some sort of account propagation.

Since writing the above, I found a workround. I was having difficulty installing the driver, so I moved it to an external hard drive, which made it simple to direct the installer to. I now have the ROM working. Thanks again.

Just thought I would mention this just in case anyone else is trying, I tried updating on a 64-bit Linux and nothing happened, I had to do it on a 32-bit install instead. I used 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 to be exact.

Well no one replied to my long post, so here is a short one. I installed 1.06.5 or whatever. I installed the addon with the small-bar. Unfortunately I ended up with the large-bar and with no ROOT. A search shows others had the root issue and re-flashing from kitchen instead of pre-made fixed it. Paul, can you please recreate the Small-bar zip as I think something is wrong. I may pay for the kitchen eventually, but your free offerings should work as advertised. Thanks. Great work you are doing here!

don't you think you SHOULD pay (modaco subscription) for the work done so far (like 99% of other Vegan's) before you start complaining.......

As a paid up member, no I don't think someone SHOULD pay. If the community was a closed one (only way to get something is to pay) then different. But this is advertised as working and free...

yes but this is a community and not a business and that the money that go's into this is used for the development of devices and the running of the servers for the site for all, however directing criticism in someone's 2nd post in, ain't going to be the best way of introducing yourself is it......

any criticism that the poster had about the notification bar and its size should be directed to DSG and the vega team through twitter!

Why? The notification bar problem is from Pauls ROM... Nothing to do with DSG...

Paul

In order to fix the small bar issue, am I right in thinking that all I need to do is uncheck everything else in the kitchen and check the small bar then bake... then load in the usual way and would this same route apply to future improvements you come up with?

Thanks again for your hard work and may I take this chance to wish you and all fellow Vega Modaco members a very happy Christmas and a very happy new year.

PS. Any news on my 3g USB toggle being able to be used on the Vega?

Tony

Hi, thanks for all your efforts.

On a vega received 2 days ago, on a just reflashed with stock 1.06_5, I am trying to apply the small bar pre-bake.

It proceeds mostly ok, but always fails near the end with:

push: files/system/etc/permissions/android.hardware.camera.autofocus.xml -> /system/etc/permissions/android.hardware.camera.autofocus.xml

push: files/system/etc/shuttle_priv/libflashplayer_froyo_gles2_20101019_v10.1.95.18_signed.apk -> /system/etc/shuttle_priv/libflashplayer_froyo_gles2_20101019_v10.1.95.18_signed.apk

failed to copy 'files/system/etc/shuttle_priv/libflashplayer_froyo_gles2_20101019_v10.1.95.18_signed.apk' to '/system/etc/shuttle_priv/libflashplayer_froyo_gles2_20101019_v10.1.95.18_signed.apk': No space left on device

Setting permissions

Error: Could not access the Package Manager. Is the system running?

Done, rebooting

What could be the cause of this?

One theory I have is that for some reason the "new" sdcard hasn't got enough spare space on it. But I don't know what I may take away in order to test this. All help welcomed, even just "me too" postings.

Thanks!

Have you taken the latest pre-bake (Paul mentioned he was going to redo it).

The No space left on device is just that - no space left on the /system partition (not on the SD card). In the paid-for ones, a few more files are deleted to make a bit more room. Perhaps Paul could comment on which files to delete to enable the second push mentioned above work. Alternatively push it to /sdcard (I think that works).

As to the package manager error, that's expected. The command is to install the flash player. If you've put it on the sdcard, you could just navigate there after the system has rebooted and install from there. Youy may not be aware, but there are later flash packages available (see this thread: http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...pdates-guides/). I updated to the latest one there via putting the package on the sdcard and now all my lipsync issues have disappeared.

Hi

Just a thought. So many people are having trouble loading this onto their Vega mainly through being technically challenged. Is there anyone out there that perhaps could make a YouTube vid to help everyone? Just a thought. I bought mine with the rom pre-loaded, but I know I would have struggled with this.

Best wishes

Alan :(

Quick question, if I am updating this in the morning from the pre bake (after doing the official update) I need the 'signed' rom as I haven't or will not do the clockwork update.... Am I correct with that????

Only asking as when I click the 'oven' it fails to download anything!!!!!

If I click on the 'un signed' oven it will download, can I use this?
