Guest wicca128 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Thanks paul all works well.... but my screen will no longer rotate
Guest dr_nick Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 tried to install 1st ed of r6 with no joy (fortunately given some have had probs with it!) i have downloaded and unzip the baked rom (with everything selected except car home and signing) windows xp machine. have the vega (with 1.06 advent rom and r5 with performance pack on already) in recovery mode and recognised in device manager as "NVIDIA USB Boot-receovery driver for mobile devices" (using pauls driver from within the rom i just baked) simply double-clicking on the install-windows.bat (as i did to flash r5) opens a completely blank cmd prompt with flashing cursor and does nothing for as long as i have waited. i have copied a command prompt shortcut into the folder where the MCR r6 is unzipped and run this, giving me a C:/vega/modaco/MCR r6-2> but whenever i type any adb commands here it responds with Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\vega\modaco\MCR r6-2>adb devices 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. what simple step have i missed out? did previously manage to get this reponse from clicking the install-windows.bat * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 * * daemon started successfully * but it just hangs there for up to ten minutes and doesn't do anything... and i can't even get back here now! help!
Guest Paul Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 'adb-windows devices' perhaps? Sounds like a classic driver issue... exactly why r7 will be for clockworkmod... P
Guest remlap Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) Another small issue with the r6 release is that the street view in Google Maps no longer rotates ? Works fine on the main maps and can do the nifty new 3d views etc. fine just no rotation at all on street view ? No such problems for me, loving the 3D mapping. I am also having this issue too. No reboot just a spinning wheel in the upper right hand corner. The "back" button does, however, respond and takes me back to the USB Mode menu. I get the same effect from both options, is that normal? It doesn't seem to check to see which mode is active. Follow Pauls advice and uninstall from the Vega and reinstall from the APK. Guest chrisw125 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Good work as akways paul Typing from my vega running r6
Guest ChazW123 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 'adb-windows devices' perhaps? Sounds like a classic driver issue... exactly why r7 will be for clockworkmod... P I installed r6 via Clockworkmod, perhaps that's why I am getting issues with no rotation on street view in Google Maps then ? weird! :(
Guest MrChaz Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Sounds like a classic driver issue... exactly why r7 will be for clockworkmod... P Will r7 still be available in it's current form as well? Have to say the difference compared to stock is remarkable.
Guest Paul Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 r7 will almost certainly only be installable via clockworkmod. There are good benefits. :( P
Guest jimh Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 No issues here, everything worked fine using Windows 7 (64) and updating an r5 setup. First impressions are that it is a bit snappier than r5? I used a rom from the kitchen with the performance pack. i hope my battery life will improve now!
Guest Sk1mble Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) Hi all. I may be doing something wrong, but I wonder if you can help? The USB host mode change worked fine and the Vega shows a usbdisk folder now when I go into the file manager. However, it's not seeing any of the files on the USB stick and an attempt to copy a file to the stick also fails. Is this some kind of format error? The disks are formatted for WIndows, probably in FAT32 or NTFS. If it's a format thing, how do I format a memory stick on the Vega, please? Many thanks, - Skimble EDIT: Please ignore this question; USB sticks don't work through ES File Browser, but work perfectly through the built in browser. Apologies for the noobish query! Guest wimsloboy Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Have paid my subscription... sorry took a while Paul... best tenners' worth on the net. have installed the usb host apk and works great. will now bake my R6 !!! thanks again Paul... keep up the excellent work
Guest wobblydoggy Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) Updated to r6 a couple of hours ago all working very well didnt mess about with the usb switcher. I accidentally clicked the recovery app and when it rebooted the screen has just been black. I have tried rebooting three times now with no success. Just hangs on black screen... any advice??? should I just let it drain? p.s not had clockwork mod installed at any point Edited December 29, 2010 by wobblydoggy
Guest Sk1mble Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Argh, I thought I'd better check out ClockworkMod if you're moving to distribute your fine mods on that platform only, but I seem to be having trouble. Booting into Recovery Mode (for example by triggering an update) brings up the icon of a box with an arrow curving out of it next to the Android mascot, but it doesn't display any text or respond to touch. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Skimble
Guest magnox Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Hi, my first post here been a very long time Lurker but thought I would say a big thank you to Paul for all the hard work and the super fast fix that was a bit of a brown trouser moment there! All is working fine here, Inc map rotation, screen rotation USB. Mode switch etc. I have come from r4 with pp and i have noticed smoother scrolling and touch screen seems a little less erratic. Only things had to do after flashing were re enable flash and install the USB mode switch apk.
Guest griff_dai Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Just to clarify, I don't have to do the USB drivers again for this do so can leave this out this time?!!!

Guest wipeout140 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Magnoox, how did you re-enable Flash, please? Follow the instructions Paul detailed in this thread Vega Flash Re-installing
Guest magnox Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Magnoox, how did you re-enable Flash, please? I just followed the instructions in the sticky, very easy!
Guest Sk1mble Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) Great, thanks very much. =) Anyone got any ideas as to why the Recovery mode is just sitting on the icon I mentioned but apparently not proceeding any further? EDIT: Right, I think this is an issue with the ClockworkMod ROM updater in its current version of 2.5.1.4. I uninstalled the ClockworkMod ROM Updater and then went and followed the instructions on this page http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...he-advent-vega/ - Following that the System Recovery app provided in the most recent update booted perfectly into version 2.5.1.3 and I was able to backup my current system files etc. At the time of writing I'm waiting for the backup to finish before rebooting, but I'm hoping everything will go according to plan! Guest Maxilogin Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Excellent update - couple of observations; - when accessing USB memory stick[16Gn Kingston], doesn't appear in ES File Explorer (may need to be re-formatted although already FAT32) - a USB status widget would be excellent simply showing which mode the device is in. Thanks again for your efforts.
Guest remlap Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) ES File Explorer will work if you navigate to the right folder. Home > click mnt folder > click usb folder > click system_usb folder. Edited December 29, 2010 by remlap

Guest griff_dai Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 I have downloaded the USB Folder and I have the following device showing as up to date: NVIDIA USB boot-recovery driver for mobile devices tried to update the driver as per instructions and it says its up to date? when I try then to run the update from the: install-windows.bat all I see is a command box flash up and disappear and nothing happens??? what the hell am I doing wrong, was running the previous version of Paul's rom with performance pack no probs....... Windows 64bit

Really hope you will still provide the updates for this via the adb method. Or if not, is there a way to run the Clockworkmod update.zips via adb and not recovery? I really really don't want to touch Clockworkmod again, nearly had a heart attack last time..... If r7 is only available via Clockworkmod, then I might be stuck there and will sell the Vega, becauseI don't feel clockworkmod isn't safe for me and I'm worried to use it. I'm more inclined to mess with drivers for ADB than I am to put a not fully working recovery on my vega, because that has potential to brick it... In fact once you get the drivers running, the adb method is VERY successful and safe. Just my two penneth.... Wobblydoggy - read my post above - the exact same thing happened to me after accidentally clicking paul's recovery app. :(
