Guest debs626 Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 Yep me too. I was very happy after the battle getting 1.04 + r2 installed. I tried the manual "hack" provided by Paul, got then got an error, insufficient storage. How do I go about trying the "Manual Hack" think I'm going abit over my own head here LOL

Guest removed-14 Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) I'm at 1.04 ok. But what I get in device manager (with USB debugging ON) is under disk drives (yes disk drives) is NVIDIA Tegra 2 USB Device. I would have thought this might be the case without USB debugging on but it IS ON! I've tried replacing the driver but still nothing. Any ideas? EDIT: Sorted. Tried using the wifes Windows 7 x86 machine but that didn't work. Used my 64bit Windows 7 laptop and so far it looks like it is working. Edited November 25, 2010 by removed-14
Guest removed-14 Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) How long does it take to boot after the r2 install. It has been sat at a black screen for a few minutes. Tried off and on but still no boot. EDIT: Went for a baked download this time and it has now worked. Thanks Paul. Edited November 25, 2010 by removed-14
Guest UKChuck Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 Don't know if this will help anyone... but I had the same problems. I was using Win XP...Updated to 1.04, then the ADB drivers disappeared from device manager, I could only see the vega as a usb hard drive.. after messing around uninstalling drivers etc I could not get it to work. I then moved onto another laptop, and when I plugged it in, it recognised the device and installed theADB drivers (I unziped the usb drivers included in the bake and pointed to them. Then I ran the installer and it updated with no problems. p.s. the image and speed up tweaks seem great, really fast and smooth, well worth doing!

I tried updating the drivers with the ones packaged with r3, but says it already has the best & most recent drivers. Should I proceed?

I had the same problem until I changed the machine I was using to update my Vega with. Something gets stuck with the driver on the PC it seems. Not sure how to fix it other than swap machines for updating. Maybe try installing a VM copy of Windows if you don't have access to another computer.
Guest rferrett Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 I am just getting the Nvidia Tegra 2 stuff in all. I don't have another computer to do this on and nothing about ABD at all anywhere in Device manager and I am deffo in debugging. Arrgghhh... Not for the first time I curse Microsoft and everything about it! FB
Guest rferrett Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Just remember my PC is dual boot with ubuntu, is there a way of installing the custom ROM from Ubuntu?
Guest castab Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) Got mine working now using Win XP. Excellent work Paul, thanks very much. Edited November 26, 2010 by castab
Guest rferrett Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 How did you do that castab? Have you got another XP machine?
Guest welshblob Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 I'm stuck with the XP driver problem as well. The nvidia \ adb device does not appear when the vega running 1.04 is plugged in. I've even renamed the driver files to be sure they aren't being used .... they aren't, only the storage device shows up. so near and yet so far. :P Rob
Guest rferrett Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 I am feeling utterly defeated and downhearted now. Can anyone slightly more techie than me confirm this, what I have taken from this thread is that if you areo n Win 7 or Bisto and your PC cannot see any sort of ABD device and only shows the Tegra Two stuff... THen the *only* possible way to install the customer rom is to use a different PC right?
Guest welshblob Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 THen the *only* possible way to install the customer rom is to use a different PC right? Appears so. I assume the original advent drivers have screwed something up and need to be removed completely .... but not sure how to do that.
Guest rferrett Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Then I suddenly remember I have a Netbook running XP.... fingers crossed...
Guest welshblob Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 downgraded to 1.02 and its still not showing up .... not sure it was before as i went directly to 1.04. I wonder if my old tmobile pulse drivers are screwing this up?
Guest rferrett Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Right, nailed it using my XP netbook and now got the custom rom all sorted.
Guest rimoth Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) Right, nailed it using my XP netbook and now got the custom rom all sorted. OK I've had a right barrel of laughs. Managed to get 1.04 release onto my Vega using a 64 bit windows 7 machine...that was the easy bit. Then tried paul's r3 on win7 32, win7-64 and ubuntu 10.10. Thought I would get there with Ubuntu, anyway to cut a long story short this is what I did on Win7-32 machine ( I think the same procedure may work on win-64). Connect the vega up to the pc. Goto devices right on the nvdia hamrony select properties select hardware tab 10: select a device function from the list click properties ...new dialogue... click change settings ...new dialogue... click driver tab click uninstall Goto 10: & repeat for all device functions Unplug usb, plug usb. It will then recognise the new device as best it can. Then right click the Nvidia Harmony device select properties click hardware tab select android adb device click properties click change settings ..new dlialogue.. click driver tab click update driver select the usb driver location as part of r3 and so on.... should say successfully installed then run the windows install.bat let me know if it works and improve this ropey guide too! Guest castab Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 How did you do that castab? Have you got another XP machine? Yeah, x86.
Guest welshblob Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Right I've managed to fix my problem. I think a generic usb mass storage driver must have installed itself on my system which clearly wasn't right. Not sure if this is the same that other people are experiencing. Symptom : WinXP SP3 : when vega is connected, even with usb debugging enabled, it is only recognised by XP as a mass storage controller i.e. no Android phone section in device manager. Fix : 1. Unzip the drivers that are included in Paul's mod pack e.g. in r3 pack there is a zip file called r1-tegrausbdrivers-modaco.zip in the usbdrivers directory. Unzip that file and remember the path to it. 2. Connect the Vega to your machine and enable USB debugging mode on the Vega. 3. On the XP machine go to device manager and uninstall (select, right click, select "Uninstall") the following devices : - Disk Drives : Nvidia Tegra 2 USB Device - Universal Serial Bus Controllers : USB Mass Storage Device 4. Then go right to the top of device manager and select the icon that represents your XP machine, this will have the computer name of your machine. Right click on it and select "Scan for hardware changes". 5. This will now redetect the Vega and allow you to install new drivers. When it prompts you to do this ensure you do not let it automatically detect them, instead make sure you point to the directory you have unzipped pauls drivers as in step 1 above. 6. Once the driver is installed you will now have the following in device manager : - Android Phone : Android Composite ADB Device - Disk Drives : Nvidia Tegra 2 USB Device - Universal Serial Bus Controllers : USB Composite Device - Universal Serial Bus Controllers : USB Mass Storage Device You can then install Paul's mod. Cheers Rob Edited November 28, 2010 by welshblob
