Guest zz66 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) I'm glad to read this mate, I probably go tomorrow (because today was a very snowly day!) to an orange store to buy one SF. I was afraid that Orange could already started to sell the SF with LCD screen :| So.. if I go and buy it tomorrow my phone will have OLED screen, right?! ;) Not really, someone in other forum said that he's got a white one and it looks like TFT screen. Guest Just Wondering Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Hi , I'm sure this is a daft question, I've owned my Orange bought San fran around 5 weeks will it be 100% oled ? My blacks are very black with the brightness on full but I'm not sure that is conclusive enough , I've watched the you tubes clips but am still unsure !
Guest Just Wondering Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Run noled app in test mode, ir it glows white under the black and not TOTALY black then its not OLED. LCD SF http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/7585/dsc000180.jpg OLED SF http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/3086/dsc00425bo.jpg How do you put the program in test mode , I can't see that option. Pls
Guest xavia Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Not really, someone in other forum said that he's got a white one and it looks like TFT screen. Mine is grey :X
Guest adamsy Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Got mine about 2 weeks ago and definately has OLED screen (Orange SFC)... ;)
Guest Niks10 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) Just read this on HUKD. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/orange-san...09#post10006142 Just to confirm I phoned myself and the guy told me it is TFT screen, all the AMOLED are gone. The new stock has TFT screen as opposed to AMOLED. Edited December 3, 2010 by Niks10
Guest Rem1x Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Protect your OLED with your life, boys ;)
Guest rayraven Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 ^If thats true, the value for money factor of this phone just went down a few notches.
Guest Nedjo Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 I've received my version yesterday, but luckily friend from UK bought it for me on 12. of November thus why I'm enjoying gorgeous AMOLED screen ;) sadly my shipping costs was as high as a price of the phone :P But hey, even for 220 pounds you can't buy anything like that anywhere! :P

If not can i return it ?
Guest Nedjo Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 going to my local orange shop tomorrow to get mine, hopfully its a amoled. If not can i return it ? well in theory if go over there and ask them is it AMOLED, and they say YES! And if it turns out it isn't, they've sold you something that you didn't want - they've mislead you! In that case IMHO you have the right to return it.

Guest veehexx Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 best keep the screen against skin then when in pcoket - atleast if anything happens the battery/rear covers takes the force and not the screen. maybe now is the time to sell - garanteed amoled screen at a premium ;)
Guest netdudeuk Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Just read this on HUKD. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/orange-san...09#post10006142 Just to confirm I phoned myself and the guy told me it is TFT screen, all the AMOLED are gone. The new stock has TFT screen as opposed to AMOLED. I wonder what would happen if your phone breaks down ? My eyes are not good and this screen makes all the difference. I'd not be prepared to accept a TFT one as a replacement and I'd not be wanting to wait weeks for it to be repaired.

I can confirm OLED/TFT in a few days but I guess next batch will surely be TFT. Figures crossed for mine ;)
Guest abdidas Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 I have a replacement coming next week because of my current sanfran has really weak wifi reception. I dont want a TFT screen now that I have tasted OLED, maybe if I am lucky it will be OLED since they are only sending the handset out not the entire box, it doesnt even come with battery or backcover. what should I do am so puzzled now ;)
Guest Broc Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 How do you put the program in test mode , I can't see that option. Pls Choose 'Set Colors' [sic] and then scroll down, it's the last option.

You keep mem cards and what not, you give em phone, backcover and charger, free 2gb SD card again! ;)
Guest jchamier Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Not really, someone in other forum said that he's got a white one and it looks like TFT screen. I've just tried NoLED on my white one and it definitely glows, so I assume its TFT. However still looks very good and exceptionally crisp. Lovely screen ;)
Guest DaveMac Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 The wife wants a white one...I've explained the whole OLED/TFT screen debate, but she's adamant she'd rather have the white phone than worry about "some screen spec". She's never had an OLED screen, so I guess you don't miss what you've never had! :P Looks like its style over function for the missus...glad to hear the TFT screen still gets the thumbs up though ;)
Guest Flumpster Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Just ordered another 2 from here for £89 each and that was including the £10 topup. They still have stock so I'm guessing it's old stock and the key features says this : "Witness all the San Francisco has to offer through the stunning 3.5 inch AMOLED touchscreen" Lets hope they show up with the right screens ;)

Guest zurpher Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Any chance that someone posts a video comparing SF with AMOLED to LCD? I have read that LCD is less blurry in particular with b/w contrast when reading text.
Guest Samehere Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Any chance that someone posts a video comparing SF with AMOLED to LCD? I have read that LCD is less blurry in particular with b/w contrast when reading text. On that video you can see the backlight difference at least. And, yes, the pixels of an AMOLED screen are blurrier. But most people won't notice without a magnifying glass or looking really closely.
