Oh, I see. I guess they saw an opportunity to make easy money, having people buy £20 instead of £10 top up.

I had to pay £139.99 on Ebay though, I bought it when the operators announced the Swedish version were going to have 256MB RAM.

That was false though, the Swedish version will also have 512MB RAM, lol.

I recall that about 3 days ago, play.com has advertised the white handset as coming with 256MB RAM and LCD screen, but now it seems to have changed to OLED and 512MB RAM....

Can anyone confirm? :P

Can you tell if it's OLED?

I think it is... very nice screen whatever.

In Task Manager:

System Used Memory: 177.67 M

System Free Memory: 236.29 M

System Total Memory: 414.81 M

set the screen timeout to a low value and open a white page (in browser for example).

If the screen has pinkish tint when dimmed then it's OLED.

i really hope it is!

The white one, does it look like it's more prone to scratches?

If it is, then I think I'd keep my grey one.

I've dropped my grey one already pretty hard on tiled floor and I didn't even get one scratch!!

I went into the Orange store to fondle the white one, they literally had 1 in stock and neither of the staff even knew it was there until I asked.

Anyway, it looks very slick, I am just worried about scratches on the white surface, it looked so shiny that I could swear it was painted, although the sales girl assured me it wasn't.

Didn't buy it in the end, sticking to my grey one. Regretting it already? Maybe.

I've seen evidence to the contrary. You probably made a wise decision.

That's the prototype phone which was a white rubberised coating similar to the grey phones, which can easily come off. ZTE are making them out of white plastic to resolve that issue. I've had a play with a retail unit in the Orange store and I've even had the back off to confirm if it's white plastic or not. It is. No need to worry.

Ok, I did what you said, and used the Orange home page in the browser, scrolled down so it was mostly white with some text links.

The screen dimmed after a few seconds, and I'd say it was slightly grey, but you might see that as a pinkish tint. Then a few more seconds it goes off. (I set it to the 15second auto dim).

Does that help ? :P Its a lovely screen.

Concur the back outside is shiny (with the orange logo) but inside its genuine white plastic and not painted as you can easily tell. Its matte inside, not reflective.

It cannot be painted, or I'd have cracked the paint off already with my ham fisted attempts to get the back off :P

Am I right in thinking that the white version does not come with the rubberished coating which the grey one has?

Correct. The white version is not matte, but shiny/glossy white.

Hey, the grey one definitely still has an OLED screen. Mine arrived from oranage.co.uk yesterday but they are currently sold out again. I'm sure they will get more stock soon and they probably still have a lot left in store. Can't answer your question about the white version however.

Just picked up a white one tonight in Aberdeen - only delivered to store today.

Waiting for an 8gb sdhc to arrive and it'll be clockworked and deoranged with Seb's 404 rom. I've now a grey one and a white one but they're both christmas presents. I'll be ordering one for myself once I decide what colour I prefer.

That is a new version for/from Orange.

I think Seb would be VERY keen to see it -- so please hold off doing anything to it until you have a rom dump.

Hey, if nothing else, you yourself might be thankful that the dump exists, so you could return the phone "as standard" should any warranty issue arise ...

But it could be the basis for a 'definitive' 2.1 vanilla rom.

It'll be interesting to see if it has newer fixes than even the Finnish rom, which seems at this point, the most developed production 2.1 ...
