Guest Brian85 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Any chance to get download link for Alpha 5 today? Thanks! Yes its on the second post of this thread.
Guest ropin Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 will prebake alpha 5 have the original lock screen?
Guest RalfB Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Yeah updates from alpha4 to alpha5, I'm ready for the new year. Switched back to the stock-lock, tired of the ZTE one. After the update it looked like it didn't work, I had to (hard) reset and start again to get into my system (was almost ready to switch back). But fortunately that wasn't necessary. Only it seems my Titatinium Backup is not working, it says that it's asking for root rights, but the pop-up doesn't show. Have to look into that, I installed it new this ROM, maybe try another root requiring app to see if it's something with superuser. For now I'm all ready for the new year, may it be a kicking Android Year !!!
Guest vulpy Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Same base, I had a look at the Softbank release and saw no real benefit to using it. P No disrespect here Paul... you're wrong: - To my knowledge, latest Chinese ROM allows independent switch on/off for wifi & cell data connections (a real benefit imho) - Fixes the coarse location issue - Feels generally snappier and more robust - Gets back the vanilla unlock screen (what a relief) Seb's ROM is superior as of today to your Alpha's... Great job at getting it that far, I am sure you have a couple of cards in your sleeve :( Cheers, Vulpy

And the ROM does allow you to disable mobile data/wifi independently of each other (not sure why you even think it doesn't). Paul is 100% correct in saying that the Japanese ROM provides no real benefit and I agree with him. ALL roms based on this are using the kernel from the Chinese roms because the Japanese kernel isn't compatible. Straight away this kills any benefit the newer rom has over the older one. Also the Japanese ROM has needed, in my opinion, MORE hacking that the Chinese ROM to be functional. Issues with the Phone.apk, issues with Settings.apk not allowing tethering.. All the other hacks done to the Japanese ROM are the same that are done to the Chinese ROM. Stagefright fixes, GPS fixes, build.prop tweaks, FM Radio fixes... The Japanese ROM is not as useful as people think. If the newer kernel ran fine on our phones then we would reap the benefits of the bugfixes that ZTE (may) have added to the ROM. The Japanese ROM is no quicker or slower than Paul's MCR. The only Japanese ROM that may be a little quicker is the Jellyfish ROM with the bus overclocking, although I have seen this may be unstable.

Thanks Fibblesan for the thorough explanation, I missed several episodes (I was on Alpha3) this may explain my issues. Good job guys at improving the Blade and I keep close to yours and Paul's developments. Regards, Vulpy
Guest misterLjay Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Alpha 5 running smooth, nice one Paul.
Guest Willz Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 I cannot see the download link for alpha5 for some reason. Can someone link me please?
Guest lixcab Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 I cannot see the download link for alpha5 for some reason. Can someone link me please? Sorry Willz, Alpha 5 is only available to paid members. I think you can still get Alpha 3 though.
Guest Simon O Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Sorry Willz, Alpha 5 is only available to paid members. I think you can still get Alpha 3 though. Normally the version down is made available which would be alpha 4. Unfortunately Paul hasn't uploaded this yet and I believe he's away until the 10th January now.
Guest Simon O Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) MCR r5 is pretty good. Who said MCR is slow? Nothing overclocked. Stock ROM with Gingerbread theme. Nothing changed B) Edited December 31, 2010 by flibblesan
Guest lixcab Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 I just noticed that Haptic Feedback doesn't work in Alpha 4. Could some confirm with their device please? Alpha 4 or 5? (I had a screen freeze playing around with this setting and I just want to investigate some more) Thanks!

Guest lixcab Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 haptic worked for me on alpha 4 and works on alpha 5 which I just upgraded to Thanks for checking. Strange. I'll flash Alpha 5 and see if Haptic Feedback works then.
Guest EarL007 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Just flashed from alpha4 -> alpha5 and it seems like the ambient light sensor doesn't work anymore. Worked perfect in alpha4  Anyone else noticed this when flashing alpha5 or is it just me? I've flashed to alpha5 too, the ambient light sensor works for me, but the three softkey LEDs doesn't work.

I agree they are pretty similar i don't notice that much difference on Jellyfish to Pauls. Only major benefit is to us non paying members B) On Jellyfish we can get updates straight away whereas on Pauls we get to see them fixed and then have to pay or be patient
Guest Blues003 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 I am not, by any meams, a knowledgeable person on Roms. But, FLB, based on MY tryouts, the JJellyfish withOUT the addon is still significantly faster than Paul's ROM (alpha 3). I do not know anything about kernels and which one is old or not. I just report what my experience with each ROM tells me.

The alpha and jellyfish roms are full of little "quirks" to be polite,... screen freezes, no LED Keys, just to mention a couple... I'd be happy to pay for a "proper" 100% Froyo... I'm using Pauls 2.1 R4, it's not a froyo but its the real thing Edited January 1, 2011 by dadashi

Guest Peter H Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 anyone else getting a force close of the messaging app when you close it!? (process com.android.mms) stopped unexpectedly Yes me too - anyone any suggestions?
Guest ZTE Blade_ Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 please help me unroot the rom i've tried several methods and though i've removed manually Superuser.apk and su command from /system/xbin, i'm still rooted please help me remove root permissions
Guest Totyasrác Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I have flashed alpha 5, but am having problems sending MMS messages. The phone just sits on "sending message". I use an italian Sim card as I am in Italy. I installed APN Italy and selected my network (TIM). This application worked when I was running the Modaco 2.1 Android rom. Can someone please confirm that MMS is working. Thanks MMS problem happened with all Froyo custom ROMs also in Hungary - check all the APN settings with your operator. For us Hungarian T-Mobile users there was one problem:authentication type had to be set to PAP in order to make MMS working. Default setting was "default" and was not working. So check the correct settings with your operator
Guest Paul Stemmer Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 (edited) alpha5 - Problems with A2SD / A2SD+ I baked several alpha5 roms: 1x A2SD 1x A2SD and A2SD+ 1x A2SD+ I have problems to install apps with all of them. The alpha4 rom (and only A2SD) was ok. With the alpha5 rom the installation of apps is everytime a suprise. One time I can install an app (for example Quick system info), but the installation of fancy widget fails with a reboot. After the reboot I can't see and select apps which are on the sdcard (A2SD ?). What I'm doing wrong? I tried several clockworkmod versions. 5.09, 5.13 and 5.18. I tried several formating procedures (gparted with 1. FAT32, 2 ext2/3 or with clockwork partioning). PROBLEM SOLVED: The microSD card (standard 2GB card) was too slow (CLASS 2). No problem with the installation of the baked alpha5 with A2SD and A2SD+ on my new CLASS 6 16GB microSD card. Guest jtc42 Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Is there any way to get the stock dialer back on this? Or is that something I would regret doing?
