Guest Totyasrác Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Because you have to pay for it, I'm not paying for it. If not willing to pay then how do you want to justify your demands? You deserve everything free? Based on what?! There are many things that cost money when running a forum like this - the owner has to buy (at least one of) all the phones to play around with (thus be able to produce ROMs for example), server running fees (bandwidth is not for free, the server hardware/software costs money etc) and many other things that need to be paid. And you are not paying for it but want all the benefits just by registering for free? C'mon man. A tenner is not that big deal for a year, really. If it is - don't spend it on fancy new phones. That's how I see it. Edited January 10, 2011 by Totyasrác
Guest Paul Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I'm back! :D Sorting through a bunch of backlog and working on some non Android work, but looking at what needs updating here too. Alpha 5 prebake coming up, suggestions for alpha6? Definitely need to put that working FM radio app in! I also have a few thoughts on the 'lockup' issue. Snowboarding cleanses the mind. :P P
Guest Lew247 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Welcome back Paul My only suggestion - use the new released kernel? I read one one of the posts it lets the stock orange fm radio work but the posts got too fragmented to follow so not sure what else was posted about it but the kernel seems to have fixed quite a few things including the led's? There's been a few discussions about the battery drain and some fixes for this but again it was on several threads so lost track of it All I know is I charged my battery fully yesterday, took it off charge at 2pm, 9pn it was down to 32% and I didn't use the phone at all, I then played with the menu's for a few mins to see what might be running draining it and it dropped to 27% Only thing showing in the battery stats is Android system 90% sell standby 6% and phone idle 6% and no I don't understand that either as it adds up to more than 100% Alpha5 rom used* Edited January 10, 2011 by Lew247
Guest Paul Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Interesting, hadn't seen that! Where is said kernel? P
Guest Lew247 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) There ya go - although it has been discussed in Many threads with lots of comments/fixes/mods I lost track http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...32-source-code/ Maybe someone who knows about the roms and has been able to follow all the posts can post a summary of problems/fixes to save Paul searching/reading Every thread/post? btw nice move making the new sections, it was definitely needed Edited January 10, 2011 by Lew247
Guest lixcab Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Interesting, hadn't seen that! Where is said kernel? P Welcome back! I hope it was good skiing trip. The Kernel and Mirror download sites are here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...32-source-code/
Guest Paul Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Ooh, nice, proper kernel source... finally! P
Guest ZTE Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Yes, welcome back Paul, hope you had a nice break! You missed all the new kernel fun. :P It has fixed most of the major bugs in the previous 2.2 alphas it seems. The button backlights now work and the screen freezes also seem to be gone. However, it has brought with it a couple of minor issues. For me the signal strength bars are either full on or off, nothing in between. And the giffgaff carrier ID comes up as Telefonica O2 UK. I think this occurs on other O2 virtual networks as well (Tesco?) If you could apply your massive brain to these issues I think we would be home and dry. :D Cheers...
Guest Paul Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Strange, those sound like RIL issues which the kernel shouldn't hugely affect. I'll grab the source and start having a play! :D P

Snowboarding cleanses the mind. :P P Nice to see you back (in one piece B))! I had a lockup Friday, when even the screen wouldn't come back on... Did a logcat, then rebooted via adb reboot command so the phone was running... Too lazy to get private data out (phone number etc) so I'd just send it over to you if still any of interest... Want it?
Guest Totyasrác Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Oh, about the battery drain - I started not to use BT (had it always on so I didn't have to do anything in the car when incoming call rang just press a button on the car set). Now by the end of the day battery has ~50-60% (while used to have 25-30 before) with similar usage - only diff is that I have BT off...
Guest robm82 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Does anyone know if the A-GPS option should be missing from this ROM? Takes about 5 minutes for my phone to get a GPS lock. Many Thanks.
Guest Theme Ishere Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 And the giffgaff carrier ID comes up as Telefonica O2 UK. I think this occurs on other O2 virtual networks as well (Tesco?) Which Rom are you using? My phone shows GiffGaff like it should.
Guest ZTE Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Which Rom are you using? My phone shows GiffGaff like it should. Hmm.. yeah, this could be a ROM problem and not a kernel problem. I'm using Seb's Froyo with the new kernel. I'm also wondering if the signal strength bars issue is also a ROM problem. I believe they are working correctly on Flibblesan's ROM. Sorry if I misled anyone, I'm a bit new to all this. :D

Guest manji Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) The signal bar problem (either no bar or all - icon updating issue?) seems to be exclusive of the Japanese ROM release. Edited January 10, 2011 by manji

B) P Hi Paul, im a Master Informatics Student of Unv. UMinho at Portugal and i love your hard work and acknowledgment into Unix systems (that i love too :P). Realy i have no suggest for the ROM, its not perfect, but i can live with its little bugs, thing that i cant live its the wifi problem that never connect/auth into WPA-EAP (802.1x) with TTLS or PEAP and PAP. This problem only affect me? By the way im crazy with the game Air Controler it shutdown 10sec when playing without even FC and ADB exception. Biggest Hug, Paul

I got a pretty good reason actually, How come he gets to charge money for simple roms? and the reason why I say simple is because this rom is like a grain of sand to the universe compared to the PS3 hacking scene and they all do it for free. So he could at least release an earlier build such as alpha 4.

So he could at least release an earlier build such as alpha 4. I'm fairly new around here, so please forgive my cheek - however I didn't feel I could let the above post pass without comment. Have to say that I'm absolutely astounded by your attitude - if this is such a "simple rom" why don't you go away and create one yourself, then you can do what you like with in terms of distributing it? The fact is that Paul puts a tremendous amount of effort into not only creating and developing the ROMs he works on but also creating and maintaining this website - which I'm sure puts him to great personal expense. Personally I tried out one of Paul's prebaked ROMs (an earlier one to this) and found it to be fantastic, so I thought it was only fair that I made a contribution towards his efforts by paying to become an ad-free member. In purchasing this "ad-free" service I am now entitled to access additional services and products, including more recent ROM versions and customisation via the kitchens...simples? :D To use a simple analogy, I'm sure that cooking burgers is "like a grain of sand to the universe" when compared to the PS3 hacking scene - does this mean that you would go up to a burger van and demand free burgers just because you don't feel like paying for their service/effort? Paul chooses to charge for premium features/access - get over it! :P
Guest Alex_P Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) the wifi problem that never connect/auth into WPA-EAP (802.1x) with TTLS or PEAP and PAP. This problem only affect me? Not just you, but not just this ROM. I've never been able to get onto my work WPA-EAP PEAP MSCHAPv2 wifi with any ROM, 2.1 included. Have a google around, this seems to be an android issue (maybe fixed in gingerbread, but there are so many conflicting reports). By the way im crazy with the game Air Controler it shutdown 10sec when playing without even FC and ADB exception. Same here, try Flight Director - virtually the same game with different graphics. Edited January 11, 2011 by Alex_P
Guest Totyasrác Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 "charge money for simple roms" He is actually not charging anything for any ROM itself. You can become a member - with some benefits. Not only ROMs but kitchens, having no ads and so on. You, as a free user are welcome to download ROMs for any phone covered by this site but have to understand: supporting members have more rights. This is the way it goes all around the world. I still say a tenner for a year is not that big issue for anyone ( I mean for the people buying smartphones). Just try to figure out wheter you'd do all required to run a site like this for free or not - consider all the work, support, time and money that's needed. Would you honor the ones who are willing to pay? Would you even give anything for free?
Guest Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Hi all, I have a problem with two Apps. The Apps can show the network traffic per Apps. But I can't see the Traffic per Apps. Only the total traffic per WiFi and GPRS I can see on the screen. I think is a ROM problem ?!? Because both Apps doesn't work ?!? App 1: http://www.androidpit.de/de/android/market...afficStats-Lite App 2: http://www.androidpit.de/de/android/market...nfo/TrafficInfo Can everybody help me? Thanks.
