Guest tdodd Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) I placed an order for this Class 4 16Gig Micro SD. http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/9712...uctReviews.html That's the one I bought, although I paid £14.99 for mine, with another 60p off in cash back from TopCashBack. :) Just be sure you get sent a Class 4 card, as some people have been receiving Class 2 cards in error. Guest Hanks6 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 (edited) i'm weighing up the different microsd options for the blade at the mo. it's out of a class 6 8gb and the kingston/play.com class 4 16gb. i don't really want any speed or compatibility issues that 'might' come with the bigger size, but the extra space could be really useful. class 6 16gb seems be outrageously priced so that's off the cards. anyone have any issues with the 16gb or think the class 6 8gb will be a noticably better performer? Word of warning about kingston cards as I have a 8gb class 4 which doesn't work. Will probably order a play card now.

Cheers, I saw your post at HUKD and saw that some people received a Class 2. It's a shame that I paid £2 more but at the time I did not have a phone to justify buying one. Play have dispatched my order last night when I received a dispatch notice so I will let you know what comes through the post. The 5 year warranty was the deal clincher. ;)
Guest tdodd Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) I've just run a more scientific test of read/write speeds of my Play.com Class 4 16GB card with some proper speed testing software. Here are the results of transfer speeds between my laptop and phone with files ranging from 100MB down to 4kB. The figures are the best results of five runs at each size.... The worst figure I saw for the 100MB sequential write was 3.7MB/s. There were no hiccups during the test. I also repeated the test but this time starting out with a 50MB file rather than 100MB. I have no idea why but it seems write speeds have picked up across the board.... Edited December 21, 2010 by tdodd
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 just for curiosity is someone running a 32 gigs ? (i know they are very expensive yet ~ 75 pounds)
Guest Hanks6 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Word of warning about kingston cards as I have a 8gb class 4 which doesn't work. Will probably order a play card now. i remember reading in another thread quite a few having good results with the kingston 16gb (not sure about 8). but i also remember fibblesan commenting on a samsung class 6 8gb model being good. i see one at 11.99GBP that looks really good. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002WGIV10/ref=...ASIN=B002WGIV10 also a cheaper transcend model for 10.79 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NS9...BCDM30B6W413NTZ
Guest tdodd Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 also a cheaper transcend model for 10.79 FWIW (probably not much) I use a couple of 32GB Transcend compact flash cards in two of my DSLRs and an 8GB Transcend SDHC card in my compact camera. I've had them for around two years and shot tens of thousands of images onto them and never had a problem. Not sure what that has to do with micro SDHC other than to say that in my experience (and in pretty much every personal account I've read about card reliability) Transcend has demonstrated itself to be a reputable and reliable brand.

Guest Hanks6 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 kingston makes 32 gb too but 90 euros iachhhhh :) transcend one is cheaper but not by that much. no way would i push it all the way to 32gb for use on the blade though.
Guest stanno Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 I ordered this 16GB card for 23,53e inc. shiping: MyMemory 16GB SDHC Let see how well it works.... Doesn't work for me. Un-mounts every time I try and write to it via USB. Others have had the same problem. What 16GB card should I go for - are people saying the Play cards are OK?

My Play card seemed to be playing up a bit initially, but having disabled USB debugging it's been rock solid since. Re-enabling USB debugging subsequently does not appear to have resulted in any further problems.
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 ... What 16GB card should I go for - are people saying the Play cards are OK? I have a 16 from Amazon (some months ago). Branded Verbatim, marked Class2. Tested at Class6 speeds (admittedly only tested when pretty empty). Seems to work fine.

Guest DominicA Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Hi, although I have a 16gb Class 6 Sandisk card (99.9% believed to be genuine) which works in the SF, it cannot be written to whilst it is mounted in the phone. It constantly mounts and de-mounts so the only way of writing files to it is to remove it and insert into the PC directly. This is frustrating. My question is do any 16 gb cards work completely (i.e can you write large files to the card) when it is in the phone and connected via USB? If yes which class and make are you using. Thanks My 16gb play class 4 does this, reverted back to my 8gb play class 4 as this is fine. I can actually copy some files over, but if doing lots of MP3s it will baulk and say sd card removed.
