GiffGaff's comfusing.. There is conflicting info all over the web. The other day giffgaffs own site contradicted ifself more than twice.

it is however the best network for data usage, I'm certain of that. saying that if the 500mb limit is fine for you then the tesco offer for example mentioned above might be preferable.

it should be added however that giffgaff have free calls and texts between giffgaff customers if you've topped up in the last 3 months, and free 0800 numbers.

The way I see it... you can pay £10 to get £10 of credit in an ordinary PAYG way with 8p xnet anytime calls and 4p texts. Doing that, at the moment you get free internet - after feb (unless they prolong it again) its 50p a day internet.

Alternatively, you buy a £10 goodbag. For that you get 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet..

So for now, if you're a light caller and texter who would spend less than £10 a month on the calls and texts as cheaply as they're priced then you're probably better off treating it as an ordinary payg service no matter how much you use the internet.

After feb, the internet will cost 50p per day. If you mostly do your internetting over wifi then you should probably stick to just buying payg credit as and when needed. If you use the internet regularly over 3g to the extent where you end up topping up more than a tenner a month then you should be using the goodybag.

Anyway you cut this, giffgaff is better value than the OP's current provider. However, that Tesco contract above looks better value for heavier callers, lower data users. The tesco prices look very costly for anyone exceeding their limits though - so be careful with that.

Hi,

I'm on tesco mobile, they have a 1 month contract offer (sim only) on their website at the moment, 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb internet for a tenner. Their call centre is in o2's offices and they use their network, I've only been with them for a month but no problems so far, something to think about.

matt

I thought it said Unlimited text and data.

I am thinking of getting one. Do they charge you if you go over the limit on your internet (data)?

If anybody know please reply

they dont charge you if you go over the 100mb a day limit on pay as you go, you'll get an email asking you to tone it down or buy a goodybag.

if you are on a goodybag and you start using massive amounts of data (as in more than 10GB a month) it will be assumed you are tethering it to you computer and you'll get an email about that. you wont be charged in either respect. worst they will do is cut you off.

link in my sig will get you £5 credit when you activate. http://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/mrdavid

Will they cut you off if you go over that "100mb" in a single download, or send you a email?..

e.g downloading a psx rom 300mb ..

They wont charge you for it but if you were downloading a psx rom daily at over 100mb it may cost giffgaff more than they can afford on a single user and may have to decide to drop the offer. The same happened a few weeks back when a member used an excessive ammounts of calling minutes so they decided to drop the offer for all members without notice...

So in short stick to the terms & conditions. Instead of ruining it for the whole community ;)

The way that giffgaff work it is that they look at your use over a period of time. If you've had a blip one day then that's generally fine (not sure how high it'd have to be to not be fine?) but if you are consistently going over then they will warn you.

They're very good at looking at the individuals - they do it with payback too ;) So far I'm incredibly happy with giffgaff, and I've been paid for using the service once I count in payback :P

Giffgaff is really good, joined end of july and earnt over 45 pound cash back which is more than i topped up. The only uk network which offers truly unlimited internet with no fair usage policy, plus the community forums are buzzing with eager users offering help.

I signed up on nov 19 and got £38! not sure how but from just 50 posts I got in the top band of users that was worth £23 last month. and till they abandoned it the 50p per email sent thing was pretty lucrative for many I'm sure.

incidentally, in the interest of fairness I did see a lot of adverts on the bus this evening for something called 'pakistan mobile' advertising 5p a min calls which seems to be part of 'vectone'

their internet allocation is much much less though.

can i swap my number over from o2?

Yes. There might be a charge if you have an O2 contract with time left to run.

You need a PAC provided from O2. This is a Porting Authorisation Code that will allow GiffGaff to get your number transferred.

cheers

Yes I did it on mine, went through with no problems

I asked O2 for my pac code

ordered the giffgaff sim

once it arrived I activated it, used their webpage to port the number over and it was done within 2 days the number had been swapped

on the day of the change I had no service for about an hour, but no big deal.

O2 do charge you till the end of your contract though if your not at the end

they shoulnt do that. they are entitled to charge you however your receipt of the pac code should not be dependent on your payment of that. they have to give you the PAC whether you pay or not.

not sure where the 100mb a day has come from but on the pricing page it says

This bit's important...

Free to giffgaff:

You need to top-up at least every 3 months to receive free giffgaff to giffgaff calls, if you don't other UK rates will apply as above. The free giffgaff to giffgaff calls last for 60 minutes per call, so you need to hang up and re-dial if you want to keep talking.

Free Mobile Internet:

You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the 28th of February 2011. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB). But all our goodybags that include unlimited Internet will continue including unlimited Internet after the 28th of February 2011.

Free numbers:

We also believe that a free number should be just that, so all 0800 and similar numbers really are free.

The 100mb comes from the T&Cs.

100mb a day free, until the 28th February 2011.

(i use a goodybag so don't really matter to me)

I suggest that anyone who doesn't believe the 100mb limit on the free internet should use over a 100mb for a couple of days in a week and see what happens.

I've read about a 100mb limit on the free offer before (as opposed to the goodybag whiuch is completely unlimited) but I can't find it now. I wonder if they recently changed it to the no tethering statement rather than a fixed limit?

I'm thinking of moving over to giffgaff. I'm currently on the tesco £10 deal, but the 500mb internet limit is just s***.

What I wanna know is can I just put a £10 goodybag on it once a month? Or do I have to have credit too?

You will need credit if you intend to call or text a number outside of the Goodybag

e.g 0844,0870

its better to have a bit of credit. if you start off buying a goodybag using a sim from a referral link such as mine (or indeed others http://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/mrdavid ) you'll get an extra £5 credit so you can just start off buying the goodbag and have a few quid spare in your account for the odd extra thing you might spend a few pence on from time to time such as mms or international calls/texts
