Gingerbread (2.3) for Pulse

Hmm. My SD card works now. Mounted and usable.

I was on CM 0.40. Booted in clockwork recovery and made a backup. Then wiped user data (DATA, CACHE and EXT) and fastboot flashed the images. When it booted i had my APNs already setup with 3g data working and SD mounted. I did wipe system before but not this time.

Hey any Pulse owners able to record a video of Gingerbread running on the Pulse and upload to Youtube please? Would be very useful as a few people don't quite believe it's real. I've been tweeting about this and wouldn't surprise me if a couple of websites pick up on this ;)

(kind of wish I had a Pulse still now)

Uploading..... :P

Here's something interesting, a partial quote from a Google engineer "Another Android engineer, Brian Swetland, also weighed in. “Any device that runs well with Froyo should run even better with Gingerbread. The base hardware requirements have not changed...". Soooo it seems all the 1Ghz talk was rubbish after all.

And more importantly the guys at CM say that they released 6.1 stable now to finish the Froyo development cycle and now are waiting for the 2.3 source to start the next stage of development. Heh, who would have thought that we can potentially get 2.3 CyanogenMod on that cheap 1.5 device we bought ;)

Tom, thanks for everything, really the things you did to improve the Pulse are Biblical!

Google are saving the 1GHz requirements for Honeycomb which is for tablets. Just that most websites assumed that Gingerbread would be for tablets and require a high spec device.

I thought i'd read that 2.3 required a minimum 1Ghz processor but after seeing this port decided i'd got confused and it must have been android 3.0 I read about. Obviously not ;)

F**k me. I'm impressed by this.

Whoever thought that the T-Mobile Pulse would see Gingerbread running? Pretty amazing stuff so far.

Remind me again... why can't Huawei get Eclair working right when the community have 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 running?

HA, SHAME ON THEM, WE HAVE HERE SUPERIOR ENGINEERS! ;)

WELL DONE!

BIG FAN!

I'm not sure what the deal is with SD. I replaced vold with my modified froyo version expecting that would fix it, but mine still doesn't mount. Is your sd card partitioned?

Yes it is partitioned. 512 ext and the rest fat.

Well done ! ;)

Sdcard mounting for me to.

With no problem.

About the ext partition?

Well I guess that this can be done with a script in /system/etc/init.d

And Hell yeah.

It is really very laggy and slow.

But at least working.

Excellent work Tom!

HAHAHA!

I guess this is miracle!

The Pulse?

With 107MB of ram, and 528MHZ AMRv6 processor and qualcom MSM7500 GPU can rum Gingerbread?

And only a week ago everybody was saying that pulse will never get that fare.

Thanks TOM.

You are the MAN.

EDIT:

If you want to mount the sd card.

After the phone boot.

Remove and add the sdcard again.

It'l mount without any problems.

But I guess that our processor cant's stand much the gingerbread.

It have to be overclocked.

Because now it's working on full load all of the time.

It doesn't get lower then 80% loading.

I can see it in the System Panel application.

LOOOOOooooooL!!!!

I simply can not believe this!!

All of my applications that was movet to sd card in froyo.

Now suddenly out of nowhere appeared in gingerbread!!!

So this should means only one thing.

Vold is working just perfectly on gingerbread.

This is very good information guys.

I guess so.

Now I'll try to mount the sd-ext.

I just push the busybox in the phone.

I'll try to make a simple script to mount the external partition on /sd-ext

If this works.

Then Tom.

Your next step will be the sound.

Try to use the froyo lib files.

This should work man.

ReEDit:

Nope.

The sd-ext directory is missing in the kernel.

Tom

You should re-edit the init.rc in the boot.img

To create the sd-ext directory in the kernel on boot time if it missing.

And with one very simple script in the init.d we can mount the ext partition with no problems at all.

Best regards

And even Double LoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL!!!!!!!!!!!!

The The open GL ES for GPU is working two.

I just try to play games on the gingerbread.

It is a bit laggy, but still able to play games like Asphalt 3, or even Angry Birds.

How could it be?

how to boot it from fastboot?

fastboot boot system.img

But it's better to just flash it and then reboot,

fastboot wipe system

fastboot wipe userdata

fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot flash userdata userdata.img

fastboot reboot

Anyone know what is different in 2.3 from 2.2 (in official version). Performance tweaks? new software interface tweaks? or just bug fixes? Is it worth it (not that I'm ungrateful for the effort Toms done here of course - bloody brilliant!))
