Guest Pyr0x64 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 yeah, having wider buttons might help. would need to test it out tho
Guest English Haze Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 I've remaped the volume hard buttons to home/menu... Great tip! Thanks ;)
Guest castab Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) I'm thinking the small menu will be OK if we can double the width of the buttons... thoughts? P Yeah should be good, but wont the icons distort when stretching them? Edited December 7, 2010 by castab
Guest woutxz Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Cheers for the tip. Just remapped my volume keys using Root Explorer on my Vega on the train, and installed audiomanager. Much much better. Agreed, much much better! Cheers guys.
Guest lnux9898 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 For the ones who don't want to play about with *.kl files, try out this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464 I haven't been able to test but it looks promising.
Guest JingleManSweep Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Remapping the buttons would be good. Do you fancy maybe making a small tutorial on it the xda sites is ok but it assumes a little more android knowledge than I'm sure many of us actually have. You can change it straight on the device, but this guide needs root access and the "Root Explorer" application installed... 1) Open "Root Explorer" 2) Navigate to "system", then "usr", then "keylayout" (or "/system/usr/keylayout") 3) Click on "Mount R/W" button at the top to remount the filesystem with write access (e.g. not read only) 4) Press and hold on "gpio-keys.kl" 5) Select "Open in Text Editor" 6) Click anywhere on the displayed text. The keyboard and input box will appear. 7) Locate the cursor on the line that starts "key 115" (volume up) and change the next word to HOME. 8) Locate the cursor on the line that starts "key 116" (volume down) and change the next word to BACK. The two lines should now be something like: key 115 HOME key 114 BACK You can swap the "HOME" and "BACK" text around if you want a different key configuration. This setup means that the "Volume Up" key takes you to the Home screen and the "Volume Down" key acts as the "BACK" key. Alternatively, you can change one of these words to "MENU" if you want a hardware Menu button. 9) When finished, click "Done" next to the input box. 10) When back at the text view page, press the "MENU" button and select "Save & Exit". 11) When back at the Root Explorer page, click "Mount R/O" to remount your filesystem back to "read only" mode. 12) Exit Root Explorer. 13) Reboot for changes to take affect. If you make a mistake and your buttons don't work, try the above process again. If all else fails you can reset to default by reflashing a 1.04 ROM (including MoDaCo MCR).
Guest vertico Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 can we make the "Back" key a little fatter please? I can hit the menu button no problem ..
Guest The Yellow Monster Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Hi, I tried it too. Agreed, the back button is too small, I keep missing it! I keep missing the menu button too, but less often. Looks great with the smaller bar, but I think it's going to have to be taller to fit a usable button in it. What about increasing by a couple of pixels? YM.

That's great. Is there a way to make the original "Back" button into a "notifications" button? Then we could hide the NB altogether.
Guest Paul Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Alrighty, i've doubled the width of the touch points, adjusted the bar slightly so things don't get chopped off and redone the battery indicators. MUCH better I think! I'll upload this to the kitchen now and post when done. P

Guest Paul Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Any improvements in touch events when plugged in? P
Guest deadite66 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) not for me, you can make the problem visible by installing multitouch visualizer 2 from the market. with 2 fingers on battery it's stable but on charge it's jumping around all over the place. Guest debs626 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Any improvements in touch events when plugged in? P Just done a quick test in my email client, pressed every key on the keyboard and only got multi-pressed key once Was happening 3 or 4 times before. Multi-touch test app is still a little jittery but not as much

Guest emergant Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Perfect! Thanks Paul. I certainly prefer the new bar. Thanks Paul ;) I've only scanned the following thread, but I'm wondering if the bar couldn't go away altogether when not needed? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860153
