check if you have the previous version installed. I had flashed a ROM without office and got some similar error. I just installed the previous version from the cab that came with twu2 rom thread and then installed office through the marketplace.

I have done it several times (every time I flash my ROM) with no problems at all. In fact, almost every time I must first install marketplace (the Lite I use doesn't have it) and then download the office mobile upgrade.

Everytime I have done it I have had the previous version already installed, and as I said I haven`t had any problem at all.
