Guest Arr Too Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I think people should stop worrying about it. The "worry" is that the older ROMs don't work properly with the TFT screened SanFrans.
Guest Mike_P Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The "worry" is that the older ROMs don't work properly with the TFT screened SanFrans. Yes but as time goes by who'll want to put 'old' ROMs on their phone, imo the 'worry' is will future updates still be compatible with the now seemingly defunct OLED? ATM people seem willing to pay a premium for an OLED but that could change.
Guest Genieuk Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I've got a grey one that I had delivered on Friday for the missus, am gonna go home and check it carefully to see if it is OLED or not. It is a B08.
Guest Cowardly Courage Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 its easy to test, if someone has oled or tft. just run the initial test by dialing *983*0# in the test menu there will be lcd (if you have lcd) or oled (if your device shipped with oled) option
Guest samjam Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 its easy to test, if someone has oled or tft. just run the initial test by dialing *983*0# in the test menu there will be lcd (if you have lcd) or oled (if your device shipped with oled) option I don't believe that - mine says LCD as the second row, but I'm darn sure it is OLED - I'm very sure it came with B05 and is certainly pink (not white) when dim. (Maybe because I already upgraded my ROM to 2.2 it now says LCD on that test). Sam
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 its easy to test, if someone has oled or tft. just run the initial test by dialing *983*0# in the test menu there will be lcd (if you have lcd) or oled (if your device shipped with oled) option *983*0# does nothing :(
Guest kidimon Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I just recieved a replacement and it is B08 but I am sure that the screen is OLED. B08 can be for both OLED and LCD unless you get a white one which is pretty 100% TFT. My wifi is better atleast now, not excelent but better so it was worth the risk lol EDIT: its easy to test, if someone has oled or tft. just run the initial test by dialing *983*0# in the test menu there will be lcd (if you have lcd) or oled (if your device shipped with oled) option what do u mean by ''run the initial test''? i tried enter that code in dialer and nothing happened lol ;) I Cant figure out wether i have tft or oled, but i`m pretty sure its oles cause when I look at my girlfriends GT540 and my SF I can see a big difference, but again when I flash ROMs I dont care is it made for tft or oled, and they all work fine lol ;) And overall my girlfriends GT540 is faster than my blade, and i cant understand how is that possible. cause she got like only 80 of ram left when kill all tasks but for me there is about 300 megs left and processors ar the same, well atleast the clock speed, is that because the poor buil quality of all the rms or what? Now Im running FLB-FRoyo r3a its pretty fast but sometimes u can see lags in the app drawer :(
Guest Raspa Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 *983*24474636# LCD Information: IC: TL2796 Glass: Samsung That is an OLED screen. If you get either of the below then you have a TFT screen. IC: NT35580 Glass: LEAD or IC: HX8369 Glass: TRULY

Guest zurpher Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) When I use *983*0# it says LCD but to me it also seems to be an OLED and it is as Raspa has confirmed. When I use *983*24474636# I don't get anything. I use Paul's alpha3 ROM. I read something about screen burn-in on the Nexus One and wonder if that could also become an issue on OSF Blades with OLED screen. Edited December 28, 2010 by zurpher
Guest challengedavid Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) i get nothing also EDIT: IT NEEDS CHIPERAPK i put the stock rom back on as it has chiperapk installed and i could not add it otherwise! bonus it has the samsung glass replaced last week as the speaker stopped working Edited December 28, 2010 by challengedavid
Guest Raspa Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 if you get nothing then you are probably using a ROM that has ChiperTest.apk removed from /system/app. Either put it there manually or reflash with a stock ROM, do the test and then restore your backup.
Guest Mike_P Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Honestly I can't believe people are *still* using subjective methods and/or relying on apps (that you may or maynot have installed). Just grab a magnifiying glass look at your display and compare it to the picture below.... Taken from theInquisitor's original post.
Guest Raspa Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) I also can't believe people are using subjective methods (such as using a magnifying glass) when there is a code that will tell you EXACTLY what kind of screen you have, and which manufacturer it is by if it is a TFT. A magnifying glass can't give you that level of detail. Whenever I need to find out what brand of hard drive I have in a laptop I get my trusty old stethoscope out and give it a good listen - don't want to be relying on an app that will tell me make, model, firmware revision, what security if any is enabled on the drive etc etc. Nowt as queer as folk, as they say. Guest David Horvath Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I have an OLED version for sure (early UK shipping) and i see LCD in the menu.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 with the 2 commands i have a white screen :( (LCD menu) the other menus work

Just look at David's post immediately after yours, he doesn't seem convinced by the app, hmm if only there was a better way, if only I could see the pixel layout or something like that, then I'd know for sure...but how...oh it's all too difficult....

I must admit as soon as I saw the pics with a magnifying glass I tried that Much easier if you have a magnifing glass handy than installing the Chiper.apk Both Work tho. Depends how you want to do it
Guest silverspring Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I have a new TFT model. Believe me, don't let TFT put you off. It is absolutely superb. I also have an original OLED. The TFT has the edge over the OLED as small text is just razor sharp. Colours and brightness on both versions are on a par. The only thing that gives the TFT away is the slight (and it is very slight) backlight on blacks. Even then, that is with the brightness set quite high which you probably won't want to do anyway. I have observed some people who claim that their B08 is OLED. It is quite true that there are some B08's that are OLED, however they are very rare. If you have a B08, it's around 95% chance it's a TFT. The TFT is just so damn good, people are convinced it's not TFT!!

I think I'd wanted the OLED simply because it was 'OLED' and for no other reason - but now I have it I really don't care what it is supposed to do that is 'better' this screen is perfectly fine.
Guest tightus_wad Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Must admit - I have OLED version and both of the commands quoted say I have LCD...I used a magnifying glass before I saw this post - to check too - it did give the right level of detail...You can't believe everything you read - but you can believe the evidence of your own eyes. Comparing my OLED san fran with IPHONE 3GS...OLED is nicer on the blacks - but a bit over the top with colours. Neither is perfect and so is down to personal pref. I wanted the OLED one as I had not tried an OLED before, nor ANDROID for that matter. Still not sure which I prefer so am keeping both for now! Guess this thread will run and run!
Guest Raspa Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) Just look at David's post immediately after yours, he doesn't seem convinced by the app, He's using the other code, not the one I mentioned (or he sees the word LCD and thinks it is telling him that his phone has a TFT screen). Please make sure you read correctly before commenting in future, it will save you from more egg-on-face moments. The code I posted will give "LCD" information. ZTE just use LCD to mean screen - if people can't see the obvious then I don't know how they manage everyday life. Roundabouts must awfully confuse them. But by all means continue to use something like a magnifying glass rather to find out the details and manufacturer of your screen, who needs HW queries? You can't rely on them...
