Guest PeTiNgA Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 It is definitely not hardware related as it only happens with froyo ROMs. The only useful suggestion until now was to use the pattern unlock screen as some users stated they didn't have freezes using that. I'm 'testing' atm, but will take at least 24h. Anyone else with freezes: Use pattern unlock and report back if you still get any freezes. I still have freezes using pattern unlock :)
Guest the_bone Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 I still have freezes using pattern unlock :) Me too
Guest socialworker Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Damn... had my hopes up. Real showstopper... no froyo for me then...
Guest lixcab Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Do you guys want to try running with setcpu minimum speed of 320MHz? I'm a little suspicious that it could have something to do with idling? Paul, posted a link where you can get it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419

I used to get freezes with pattern unlock on Fibblesans old 2.2 Rom, have not tried with Pauls new one though.

Paul, posted a link where you can get it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419 I've installed this app and set my min speed and I'll see how it goes. Three locks in an hour this morning and then nothing since - it's hard to see a pattern to the freezes!

Please do let me us know if you get another freeze... and good luck! :) I've had setCPU for a couple of days now. So far so good.
Guest fiendishlyclever Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 What would make the freezes far less painful would be a way to power off/reboot the phone without having to remove the battery (since only the touchscreen has stopped responding). I've scoured the market but can't find any app that seems to be of use - anyone else seen one?
Guest ritterkeks Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 after stumpling upon this thread, i again had a freeze. at first i thought i would (again) be the only one with this problem, but pheww... there are more. i would point out that it is good, that it happens through all ROMs, so it is more likely that is certain software that causes this. again, at first i thought the connection to the touch panel might be loose and tried to push the display / the device / twisted it, etc. then after watching the youtube-vid, i tried it again, but nothing would work. so it has to be a software issue and I also experienced, that it happens always when there are certain notifications in the bar. (btw. I use pattern unlock. it freezes!) software under suspicion:astrid todok8 mailpower amp daemon? wont lock when playingtasker... might be possible...

Woke up this morning and my gmail was synced and it was using wifi instead of 3G. Cool! :) (I don't have blade wifi fix) Edit: And still no lock! Yey! Edited December 21, 2010 by lixcab
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 perhaps there are some subtil differences between the blades. i have the french version aka internet tactile II and have never freezes or locks. (fibblesan froyo rom in)
Guest illum Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) Well my problems seemed to get worse in the last 2 days, 3-4 freezes a day and my battery compartment sure as hell wasn't happy about being taken off that many times! Since then (as a developer), I started looking into whether we could write something that would allow rebooting the phone via long press of the home or back key (i.e. without taking the damn battery out!). I didn't get too far with this one, apart from write the program to actually perform the reboot. Luckily though, it led me to looking into how to replace the lock screen and, of course, Widget Locker came up. So I figured why not give it a go, as it allows you to unlock the phone with the back button - good start I thought. Installed it and so far, my new "widget locker" lockscreen feels smoother AND I haven't had a single freeze since. Could well be a coincidence, but if it's not - I expect Widget Lockers sales to double in the coming weeks! I'll keep you guys posted, give it a weeks use without a reboot and see what happens. Fingers well and truly crossed, I don't want to go back to 2.1! EDIT: Oh and I also haven't noticed any extra battery drain from the new lockscreen - although I don't have anything on it, just the regular lock slider. Edited December 21, 2010 by illum

Wouldn't a batch script do the trick? su reboot I guess you will have to find a way to map it to hard keys?

I use the Blade Wifi fix from the market place (otherwise I get stuck on 3G - burnt through 700Mb in 10 days) and I noticed that this doesn't seem to work with the other lock screens from the market place. Do you know if it works with widget locker?
Guest ballist1x Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Mine usually freezes after i leave it on overnight. My solution? Turn it off before i go to bed and turn it on in the morning. Good job i went for a 2 phone solution. And to think that people laughed when i said i needed 1 phone for calls and one for browsing the web:) for calls and potentially emegency ones i need a phone that does not freeze the screen....
Guest alx707 Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 I can confirm non-deterministic freezes with Pauls Froyo (2.2) Alpha 3 and Froyo (2.2) Alpha 4 with the lockscreen pattern active. One happend overnight causing some fumbling to switch of the alarm clock. :) One oft the others during the day after missing a call. At first I suspected NoLed as this software seems to be pretty unstable but thats just a gut-feeling. A friend of mine has a comparable setup and no freezes at all. So it might be as well some issue with certain hardware revisions having lower reliability ratings. Or maybe not. As an indicator of different HW versions I take that the SMD microswitch on top of his phone is black while mine is white but that is the only visible difference without taking the device apart.
Guest ritterkeks Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) I think the original idea mentioned on the first post is more likely to lead to something... i attached my aTrackDog app-list. Might be difficult to compare, though?ritterkeks_2010_12_21_15_43_39.txt Edited December 21, 2010 by ritterkeks
Guest illum Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Wouldn't a batch script do the trick? su reboot I guess you will have to find a way to map it to hard keys? The code involved is simple and is almost like a batch script, obviously you can't actually do batch scripts on Android. The code is actually as simple as this: (minus all the exception handling etc) private void Reboot() { String command = "reboot"; try { Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("su"); DataOutputStream outputStream = new DataOutputStream(process.getOutputStream()); DataInputStream inputStream = new DataInputStream(process.getInputStream()); outputStream.writeBytes(command + "\n"); outputStream.flush(); outputStream.writeBytes("exit\n"); outputStream.flush(); process.waitFor(); } catch (IOException e) { //ommited } catch (InterruptedException e) { //ommited } } But yes, getting it to run on hardware keys is nigh on impossible without replacing the lock screen with your own then doing it from there, with a fully rooted phone of course. Either way, im still going strong with Widget Locker, no freezes - although mine never froze overnight.

Guest samjam Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 I've had one freeze only, when I let my phone go to sleep with a piano-app running. Normally it's on the home screen when it goes to sleep and wakes up fine. I use the standard android unlock, not the zte one.
Guest illum Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Well, I said I'd update - ever since installing Widget Locker I've not had one freeze.
Guest ZTE Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Well, I said I'd update - ever since installing Widget Locker I've not had one freeze. That's looking good. keep us posted! Have a freeze-free Xmas... :(
Guest ezablade Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 had my second freeze on alpha4 this morning. was working fine when the alarm went off (unfortunately, as I was able to turn the alarm off, fall asleep and get up late!), but was dead when I received an email notification.
Guest t0mm Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Mine freezes every time i lock it up and i really dont have any kind of idea why it really does it. I have TFT, 512 ram and 5mp camera, so typical finnish blade.
