so i just installed powerAmp, and i'm liking it

can you make it look for album art, it doesnt seem to be updating anything? maybe tht's due to the tags on my mp3s

any tips on how to make it louder then? with bass extreme it sounds pretty nice ;)..... but on full volume it's just loud enough. and this is in my quiet room... i imagine on the bus etc i'll need something more... if i start messing with pre amp it just sounds really distorted

theres an audio boost.zip floating around somewhere on the forum that should increase the volume

I've used Winamp for years on my PC and was going to use that on my San Francisco but saw a post saying that it drains the battery very quickly so (1) is that true, and (2) if so, what else do you suggest? And just in case it makes a difference to your recommendations, I don't necessarily need tons of features like equalizers or whatever - I just press "Play" and let it do its thing :P

'use search' folk are tiresome aren't they?

personally I found winamp battered my battery too. poweramp seemed to be quite gentle on it in comparison, its also the most full featured, though the wi-fi synch on winamp is lovely.

No it's not true. Use search before uselessly opening a new topic. Look.

Thank you very much for that most helpful reply Rotmann - the sun is obviously shining in your world today :P

Searching for "best music app" brought up only four posts, one of which was the one regarding Winamp draining the battery. Of course, if I'd have thought to search for the string "poweramp vs doubletwist, whats your favourite music player and why?" I may well have got to the topic you pointed me to.

Posts like yours are the ones that lead to the fragmentation of the forum. My logic would have told me to search for Winamp, but what do I know? If I weren't right the mod would have not merged your thread with this one.

The subject line of my post was "Best music app?", ie, a 'general' question. I would have searched for Winamp if I had only wanted to ask a specific question about Winamp and nothing else, but I was asking a general question. And pointing me to a topic with the subject title of "Poweramp vs Doubletwist" means absolutely nothing whatsoever to me because I don't (didn't) know what Poweramp and Doubletwist are :P I would have guessed that Poweramp had something to do with battery life, not music - and as for Doubletwist - what the hell is that?? (I know NOW but I didn't then).

Fragmentation of a web-based forum like this will always happen no matter how hard you try to stop it. Why? Because topics get too big and unwieldy. The topic on gel cases and screen protectors, for example, has grown to 38 pages; one of the topics discussing just one version of a Sebastian404 ROM is now over 58 pages (if I remember correctly). People just do not have the time or the inclination to wade through all that - they WILL ask the same questions over and over.

USENET newsgroups are a far better way to discuss things than web-based forums IMHO but I guess we're stuck with them - and stuck with attitudes such as yours.

anyone with a brain knows you were totally reasonable....

it should be noted that the people with the complaints such as you address here rarely have a constructive answer to go with it.

actually I moved back to winamp today, my (admittedly dodgy) version of poweramp has a really annoying habit of losing the ability to read music files halfway through an album and needs to be shut down and opened again, cba with it.

in the ideal world though there would be a music player that ties in nicely with songbird on the mac.

No one else uses Rockbox? I always flash my mp3 players with it, stock UI looks crappy but has a lot of options.
