Anyone else using Mobile AP?

I am getting very poor speeds with it. When I USB tether I get between 3-6Mbps down. When I use Mobile AP over wifi, I can only get a pathetic 0.6Mbps down.

I tried disabling encryption, and plugging the phone into the wall power, but it made no difference. As soon as I closed the program and started USB tethering again, the speeds wither back to 3-6Mbps down, so it is not the network. To be sure, I immediately switched back and tried Wifi again, and I got the same poor speeds.

I also doubt it is the wifi connection, I monitor the link and it stays at 54Mbps the entire time, also the phone and the laptop are only 10cm apart. And when I test the laptop's wifi on my broadband connection, it can easily do 10+mbps.

I just tested with WMWifiRounter and I am able to get full speeds the same as USB tethering. I'd rather use Mobile AP, because of the black theme.

Any ideas why Moblie AP is lagging so far behind?

I was looking for a solution to connect my nook color to my Samsung Omnia 2 via Wifi. I downloaded WMWifiRouter to set up an ad hoc wifi network. I also downloaded Intshrui, to ensure i had internet sharing on my phone. Everything seems to work correctly, and I am connected to the internet on my phone, but I can't see the connection on my nook. On the front page of WMWifiRouter, it says it is ready, and under Cellular, it says broadband access connected. I can also see the network name and the WEP password that I put in. When I go to the overview page, I am getting these readings:

Inbound Outbound

Cellular 0B/s 0B/s

5.3MB 532.8 KB

Wi-Fi 0B/s 0B/s

0B 0B

I know it has something to do with the above numbers being 0, but I don't know what it is. I've read that this is the easiest program to use, and am hoping that it is an easy solution. I have searched this forum, the FAQ and Documentation on the WMWifiRouter page, and XDA and have not found a solution to my specific problem.

Thank you for your response.

It has to do with android's inability to tether as a client to an ad-hoc network. in fact it wont even display the network in the connections settings.

I can not connect my Dell Streak/ Froyo 2.2 to my phone either. neither thru wi fi or thru BT Pan. I can connect/ tether my mac both ways fine however.

On 2.1- With Root - one could play with the sys/bin/wpa_supplicant ; doing so let me see the network. Then I would set a static IP and could connect to the WMWiFi network but not to the internet.

However if i create a network/hotspot on my wifes Palm Pre i can connect fine.

If someone can help me figure out how to tether my Streak (as a Client) to my Omnia2 I would be very grateful.

Is there anyway to create a wifi hotspot that is not an ad-hoc network? i would love to be able to tether via BT but android does not yet have the infrastructure.

I turn off the screen, it helps, but it does get warm on USB tether and hot with wifi tether.
