Guest womble_sanfran Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 I thought my power button was faulty but when I took the back off the power button worked fine so I just bought a new back from ebay and now it works fine, do you get the issue when you take the back off and click the actual button?
Guest moka88 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) Get some electronics spray for contact maintenance (something like "CRC 05101 QD Electronic Cleaner" or "Kontakt WL") and spray a tiny amount on the button (after removing the back and removing the battery, obviously). Be sure to use a spray that is not too agressive and don't spray other parts of the phone. If in doubt, apply just a drop using a toothpick. Press the button several times, remove any residue, and reassemble. Then report back here. :o Good idea, and has the potential to be the ultimate solution - apart from getting Orange to replace the device using the warranty. Not sure if i want to buy the cleaner though, i was looking for a 'free' solution  . Thanks for your input though, it will probably help someone else. I thought my power button was faulty but when I took the back off the power button worked fine so I just bought a new back from ebay and now it works fine, do you get the issue when you take the back off and click the actual button? First thing i tried, i even tried my back case on her phone, still the same. It's the button itself. Try the Shake Wake app Shake Wake App Hmm, i used this for a period back when CM7 had the proximity issue and don't think this would be a good solution for her. Im not saying it won't work, it might work just fine! --- I was hoping for a 'hardware button reassign' solution but after reading a few other post's related to the issue i believe this to be out of the question. Instead i have opted for an app that prevents the phone from 'deep' sleeping (above). Works fine. Will report back regarding the decreased battery life if there is any. Edited May 2, 2011 by moka88

Guest Grain Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I have nail varnish remover  If you also want to dissolve the plastic parts of the button that's fine. :o

I didn't think it would, as my case completely covers the power button, so there is no dust in there. My power button had stopped working all of a sudden, and I had not been able to get it to work for several days. I took the back off, removed the battery and put a small amount of electronic cleaner on the power switch. It fixed the button straight away, so it's well worth a try!
Guest mooncat29 Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 also fellas i had a problem with the power button and it turned out to be the anti virus software when i tried to wake the phone. removed this and works 100 percent now The spray worked a treat on my phone. Apply just a bit of spray on the button and it's fixed.
Guest Asghar_UK Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Contact spray really is the perfect solution. Apply just a bit of spray on the button and it's fixed. My power button is very intermittent, have to press it up to 10 times for it to work. Tried the contact spray and it hasn't helped yet, does the spray have to go into the tiny gap around the button press as I'm not sure if I managed to get any in there, its very tiny.
