Bluetooth AVRCP - known issue in 2.1 and earlier

Thought I would share this as it took me a while to figure out what was going on between my bluetooth (BT) headset and GT540 when i tried to control (FF, Pause, skip, etc) music apps. Basically I got random results and app conflicts (such as active app would quit and another app take over).

The issue of non-stock music players intermittently taking control of the BT head set is a known issue in Android 2.1 and lower.

It appears that this is handled much better in 2.2 (Froyo) as the active music app can own the BT commands.

The way AVRCP is implemented in Android 2.1 does not ensure that the last used application gets the headset events.

In Android 2.2 a method has been added for an app to register itself as the active player, which should ensure the active player is the sole recipient of headset events.

Now, I'm just waiting out for a stable version of Froyo to install on the GT540.
