[Q] Use Camera LEDs for notification?

Maybe this could be an alternative to StatusLED which doesn't always work and isn't being developed. We could have a blink system. Double fast blink means new text, triple fast blink means new email, single slow blink missed call, ect.

Is it even possible to control the camera LEDs in this way?

IF battery power is a concern, perhaps there is a way to activate the LEDs individually or with less intensity?
