Haha, fear not, it was pre-arranged and very friendly! ;)

This is good news and from what I understand, not the norm. But it's a great step in the right direction for the future and longevity of the Advent Vega and it's enthusiastic community.

There's some really great Android-based products out there (ZTE Blade aka Orange San Fran), which are becoming more accessible to those of us on a tight budget (or just don't like giving Steve Jobs their hard earn readies or what ever the reason).

What is important that the suppliers/manufacturers help the community to get the most out of these devices, which will (over time) improve their value and consumer loyalty.

:)

100% agree with you 5c00ter!

Embracing the android community is the key to success, its the nature of android!

And hopefully DSG are realising this! :)

Awesome, well done Paul, them coming to you goes to show just how valuable the work you've put in is to them. I hope your handsomely rewarded.

It's good to see that a company like DSG are embracing the community, they must realise the value and benefits to them.

This is impressive from DSG and i have to say the support for the vega has been brilliant from them on here, on the phone and on the twitter page, not many companies would care. Completely different level of competence to the staff in the stores.

Well done Paul.

What thoroughly nice people! ;)

I can't share too much at this time, but suffice to say there's cool stuff coming down the road and they are listening very carefully to everyone's feedback on the forum.

They know their stuff too. :)

P

That's excellent news! Glad they are recognizing the community and especially your contribution Paul.

Cool stuff ! hope they have some good plans for the vega and gave you the gratitude and Recognition you need for making the vega a totally Kick ass machine !

Well i hope DSG were there to encourage you and ask your help in things. ;) (or even offering you a position)

rather than to try and dissuade you from altering the vega too much, or trying the heavy corporate (we will sue you if you mess with our product) approach.

anyway Paul you really are opening up this tablet to what it should really be, and they should be eternally grateful, as previously said "they would have had a warehouse full of returns by now".

P.S. don't brick your vega, i know how it feels when you think you have :)

So Paul, when does your consultancy for DSG start, and are they paying you a handsome amount to officially produce their firmware now?

More concerning, i hope that they were all nice about it and havent tried to stop you "improving" our toy :)

Well good to see industry engagement with the community.

Let's be honest both the Vega and the Blade are surely much bigger hits than they would have been had they not been adopted in the community here. I imagine that if the Vega gets picked up by the folks at XDA in all once it is more widely available then it will probably become a bigger hit still.

I guess engagement with these sort of communities and seeing them as assets rather than a threat might be a way in which different smaller manufacturers get sort of Viral hits.

I'd be amazed if no one in the Mobile industry has taken any notice of what has happened with the Blade at least....

Great news and its nice to see Paul being regonised for all his hard work. One thing I would like to know Paul if you could disclose is if its good news to the average consumer or for the techies?

Im shocked that what was meant to be a consumer friendly tablet has turned into lots of hair pulling updates etc and frankly with flash being stripped of it is the the final blow for me.Im so glad you are here to help and that is the only reason I have not sent it back. But as its for my sons xmas pressie im worried that he will never get a finished product and that im always going to be flashing updating it.

A lot of the issues they are going to and have had are legal ones,we can tweak and add things that they can't the market and flash are perfect examples of it. Adobe and google both have pretty strict guidelines for their software that we can ignore and DSG can't. Its brilliant to know they are paying attention to the community and that they are listening to our feedback.

Glad to see they recognise your expertise and hard work Paul!

Did their visit include a job offer? ;)

Could this be a hint for Android Gingerbread on Vega???

lol - Paul. You're such a tease!! Why tell us you met with them and not spill the beans!!

I'm officially intrigued! Can't wait to hear what's been happening behind the scenes......

Just another post to say I would never have bought it if not for modaco.

Same here - I've been following tablets for a while but it's the fact that there is an active modding community that tipped me over the edge. I even bought a modaco subscription which is a first for me as a dyed in the wool freetard, however the performance pack is worth every penny imho.

Well done Paul!

If it wasn't for the work done by Paul i would still be using my first gen iphone and not the sanfran and i would still be thinking about handing over the best part of £400 for an ipad. £350 for the Vega and the sanfran and £10 to paul is a much better option in my book.

Keep up the good work Paul.

+1 to that... even though mine was dead on arrival, PC World customer services took it back at our local store and gave my wife her money back without any problems.

Eagerly waiting new stock. Not going to have anything to open Christmas morning now though :)

Are you able to share any further details of your meeting yet Paul?

TBH, it was nothing specific, we just chatted about various things 'off the record'. ;)
