Hi, welcome to the forum! :)

As for your questions... for starters: What is software version on your Optimus?

useless goin to look for another forum

Open settings, About phone, go down to firmware version.

I would assume you are on Android 1.6.

You could upgrade if you wanted to 2.1 following the surpless guides on here. Following some more you could have APPS2SD, Overclocking, JIT and Flash Lite also installed (some features dependent on specific ROMS).

The pictures thing, the android screen resolution is 320 x 480, so you would have to resize them if you wanted them to fit exactly? Dependent on the original resolution of the image you are resizing this may or may not look very good.

APPS2SD , Allows you to install apps to a partition you create on the Sd card.

The default stated for this phone is based on the internal memory at 120mb.

APPS2SD can increase this by up to 700mb, but the apps are stored on the memory card.

Android 2.2 (Froyo) hs support for this out of the box, on the GT540 you have to use an edited script and create partitions in to formats FAT/FAT32 and EXT2. The phone reads the EXT2 format, and Windows will only see the FAT/FAT32 of course. There are a few methods on here that show how to do this.

JIT - http://androidandme.com/2010/02/news/jit-c...than-you-think/

Can explain it better than I ever could.

Overclocking, is where you can speed up the processor resulting in smoother/faster performance. Sometimes this relates to stability issues. The GT540 is 600mhz out of the box, but it can be clocked to around 800mhz and some users have reported they can run at 900mhz stably. The benchmarks are quite surprising and impressive...topping handsets such as the Galaxy S and HTC Desire...

Flash lite allows you to view a little more flash content than standard within the browser I believe....

As for the image, open the original save it, edit it to 320 x 480 using this, http://resizepic.com/

Save it, try it, may be blurred or google the image etc, stating on the left hand side exactly and state your dimensions....

Seems unusual for 2.1 to freeze...but if I stress mine it does sometimes lag slightly.....

+ Some ROMS have Recovery + Fastboot needed to enable some of the above for example,

Recovery allows you to make a nandroid back up, an exact image of your phone's state etc, and fastboot is useful for installing certain functions/ROM functions such as recovery....

Also Root,

Allows you to use certain apps, such as some tethering ones, cache cleaners etc.

+

You don't HAVE to do any of these things, it just really opens the phone's capabilities up.

It does ruin your warranty, I believe.
