Has anyone tried using Google Voice Actions?

A list of the different actions are available at:

http://www.google.com/mobile/voice-actions/

Heres a list of what works and what does not work for me:

Send text messages

Say "send text to [recipient] [message]*"

Does not work for me

Listen to music

Say "listen to [artist/song/album]"

Does not work for me

Get directions

Say "navigate to [address/city/business name]"

Does work for me

Call businesses

Say "call [business name] [location]*"

Does not work for me

Call contacts

Say "call [contact name] [phone type]*"

Does work for me

Send email

Say "send email to [recipient] [subject]* [body]*"

Does not work for me

View a map

Say "map of [address/city]"

Does work for me

Go to websites

Say "go to [website]

Does not work for me

Write a note

Say "note to self [message]"

Does not work for me

Search Google

Say "[your query]"

Does work for me

The contacts have to be in your goggle acct contacts, ie in the gmail acct that you have your phone registerred with.

It does the decoding server-side and parses against those contact names

As mentioned - you need to use Google contacts to make it work, which is pretty ridiculous in my opinion since I use Exchange. But the other thing I noticed was that make sure the default language is set for the appropriate English. I know there are several roms floating around and most have them set to UK English by default (which should work for you judging from your location in your profile), but you should double check it. As it turns out it didn't work well for me when I was speaking English, but my phone was expecting to hear "Proper English" as my friends from the UK call it :)

Just as an aside - I don't know why Google didn't make Voice Search usable over bluetooth. What a missed opportunity!

You need to set your default voice to 'English (Generic)' - it may be on 'English (UK)' or another non generic one. This worked for me...

Press Menu -> Setting -> Voice Input/Output -> Voice Recognizer Settings -> Language -? set to English (Generic)

Thanks!

It's not perfect, but at least it opens the text app and puts some (mostly) relevant stuff in it.

this sucks. I was hoping to get more use out of my phone despite the broken lcd. I guess I'll just have to wait till my replacement screen arrives.
